Ashland Plantation, also known as the Belle Helene or Ashland-Belle Helene Plantation, is a historic building, built in 1841, that was a plantation estate and home of Duncan Farrar Kenner. Located in Darrow, Louisiana, in Ascension Parish. The manor house is an example of antebellum Greek Revival architecture.The plantation was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Modeste, Louisiana is an unincorporated village in Ascension, Parish, Louisiana. The community is located along the Mississippi River on Louisiana Highway 405, north of the parish seat of Donaldsonville, between Hohen Solms (area of the Germania-Elise Plantation), and Philadelphia Point, due south and across the river from Geismar. Modeste was the home of sugar cane plantation owner Leonard Julien (1910-1994) that invented a sugarcane-planting machine Julien lived in the old Babin Place that he purchased from Dr. John Harvey Lowery.

Darrow also is the home to the childhood house of James Carville after it was moved down the Mississippi River from Carville, Louisiana.

Hillaryville is located along the Mississippi River and Louisiana Highway 22, 7.4 miles (11.9 km) south-southwest of Gonzales, west of Burnside, and is a part of the town of Darrow, LA. The small community is traced back to the late 1800s. It is home to Word of Life Christian Center.

L'Hermitage is a Greek Revival plantation home. Marius Pons Bringier commissioned the home to be built in Burnside, Ascension Parish, Louisiana, as a wedding gift for his son, Michel Douradou Bringier (1789–1847), in 1812.Michel Bringier served at the Battle of New Orleans (1814–15) during the War of 1812. L'Hermitage was named after General Andrew Jackson's home in Nashville, Tennessee. General and Mrs. Jackson visited here in the 1820s.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Bocage Plantation is a historic plantation in Darrow, Ascension Parish, Louisiana, about 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Baton Rouge. The plantation house was constructed in 1837 in Greek Revival style with Creole influences, especially in the floorplan. Established in 1801, the plantation was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 20, 1991.

River Road African American Museum is a museum of culture and history in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, United States. Founded in 1994, it was among the first Louisiana museums to tell the story of Africans and African Americans, both slave and free. The museum notes their contributions to the River Road region, both before and after the American Civil War. Because of its significance, the museum was identified as one of the first 26 sites included by the state in 2008 on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail.

Donaldsonville (historically French: Lafourche-des-Chitimachas) is a city in, and the parish seat of Ascension Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. Located along the River Road of the west bank of the Mississippi River, it is a part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area. At the 2020 U.S. census, it had a population of 6,695.Donaldsonville's historic district has what has been described as the finest collection of buildings from the antebellum era to 1933, of any of the Louisiana river towns above New Orleans. Union forces attacked the city, occupying it and several of the river parishes beginning in 1862. Fort Butler was built on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The fort was successfully defended on June 28, 1863, against a Confederate attack. This battle was one of the first occasions when free blacks and fugitive slaves fought as soldiers on behalf of the Union. The fort is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After the war, in 1868 Donaldsonville residents elected as mayor Pierre Caliste Landry, an attorney and Methodist minister; he was the first African American to be elected as mayor in the United States.
