Garsington Opera

Wormsley is a private estate of Mark Getty and his family, set in 2,700-acre (1,100 ha) of rolling countryside in the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire (formerly Oxfordshire), England. It is also the home of Garsington Opera. Acquired by Sir Paul Getty in 1985, the estate forms part of Hambleden valley, running from Stokenchurch to Turville. Wormsley is known for its library, its cricket ground, its two-acre walled garden, its shoot, and the vistas and landscapes of the estate grounds. It also rents space for events and television and filming work.

Wormsley Chalk Banks are six separate areas which together are a 14.1-hectare (35-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest near Turville in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. The site is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The site has chalk grassland which is rich in both plant and invertebrate species which have sharply declined nationally. The areas vary, with the dominant grass being sheep's fescue in some, which have the greatest variety of plants, while others with deeper soils have coarser grasses such as upright brome and tall oat-grass. Flowers include bee and fly orchids, the latter of which have become more scarce. Invertebrates include a variety of butterflies, harvest spiders and slow-worms.Public footpaths cross several of the areas.

Cowleaze Wood is a 70-acre (28 ha) woodland in the Chiltern Hills, a chalk ridge in South East England. The wood is in the civil parish of Lewknor, in Oxfordshire, about 1+1⁄4 miles (2 km) southeast of the village. It is next to the county boundary with Buckinghamshire, and adjoins Lydall's Wood on the Buckinghamshire side of the boundary. The Forestry Commission owns Coweleaze Wood, and planted it between 1957 and 1966. It is particularly known for its bluebells, and walkers are also attracted to the wood by sightings of red kites. There is a large car park adjoining the wood, and a picnic area with sculptured benches designed by furniture designer Fred Baier.

Northend is a village that straddles the border of the two English counties of Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. The eastern half is in the civil parish of Turville in Buckinghamshire, while the western half is across the border into Oxfordshire, in the Watlington parish.

Aston Rowant Cutting is a 3.5-hectare (8.6-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Aston Rowant in Oxfordshire. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.Aston Rowant Cutting, also known as the Stokenchurch Gap or Aston Hill cutting, or locally "The Canyon" is a steep chalk cutting, constructed through the Chiltern Hills on the border between Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, England during the early 1970s for the M40 motorway. It is 1,200 metres (3,900 ft) long and a maximum of 47 metres (154 ft) deep, and is located approximately 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from High Wycombe and close to the village of Stokenchurch. Despite the names, the cutting is in the parish of Lewknor rather than Aston Rowant or Stokenchurch. The cutting (along with the nearby village of Stokenchurch) is subject to frequent heavy fog during the winter months.

Swain's Wood is a 16.2-hectare (40-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Turville in Buckinghamshire. It is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.The site is in the upper slopes of a valley, with grassland and scrub, flanked by woodland on both sides. The grassland has varied plant and invertebrate species, including several which are rare, such as the spiders Tapinocyboides pygmaea and Phrurolithus minimus. Around 117 species of spider and over 160 of butterflies and moths have been recorded. Some woodland appears to be ancient; some areas are mainly beech with others mixed. Flowers include orchids, primroses and cowslips.A permit from the wildlife trust is required for access.

Stokenchurch BT Tower is a telecommunications tower built of reinforced concrete at Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire, England. Reaching to 340.5 metres (1,117 ft) above mean sea level, it dates from 1963 and is 99.4 metres (326 ft) tall. There are four platforms at the top that are used to attach microwave transmission drums and other antennas. The Stokenchurch Tower is one of the fourteen BT towers built of reinforced concrete. Seven of the fourteen are of similar design, known as the 'Chilterns' type, after this tower's location on the Chiltern Hills. They are identical except for their heights, which vary considerably; the Stokenchurch BT Tower is the second tallest out of the set. The towers are located at:-

Ibstone (previously Ipstone) is a village and civil parish within Wycombe district in Buckinghamshire, England. It is in the Chiltern Hills on the border with Oxfordshire, about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Stokenchurch. The village name is Anglo Saxon in origin and means 'Hibba's boundary stone', referring to the boundary with Oxfordshire. At the time of King Edward the Confessor the village was in the possession of Tovi, thane of the king, and was called Hibestanes. The parish church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, stands separate from the rest of the village; this is a common occurrence in places in this part of the country that had some standing in the pre-Roman Celtic period. The village includes Cobstone Windmill. The windmill was built around 1816 and is unusual in that it is a twelve-sided smock mill, still housing some of its original machinery. It was converted into a residency during the 1950s and then refurbished after 1971. It was also used as Caractacus Potts' workshop in the 1968 film, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and seen in The New Avengers (TV series) episode, The House of Cards. The actress Hayley Mills and her film producer husband Roy Boulting owned the windmill and lived there in the early 1970s. The politician Barbara Castle also lived in the village. The common is an area of open access land and the standing stone (OS GR SU7507 9371) was erected for the Millennium -year 2000. Ibstone is the name given to a hymn tune composed in 1875 by Maria C. Tiddeman (1837–1915), music professor in Oxford University.

Aston Rowant National Nature Reserve is located on the north-west escarpment of the Chiltern Hills, in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has an area of 159.1 hectares (393 acres), and most of it is a 128.5 hectares (318 acres) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is listed as a Grade 1 site in A Nature Conservation Review. The reserve is in several sections, mostly in the parish of Lewknor in Oxfordshire, with smaller sections in the parish of Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire. The reserve is home to plants and butterflies of chalk grassland. The flowers include at least seven species of orchid and the Chiltern gentian; the butterflies include the silver-spotted skipper and the Adonis blue. As well as chalk grassland, the reserve contains woodland with beech, yew, and juniper. Overhead, reintroduced red kites are resident.

The Chiltern Hills are a chalk escarpment in the UK northwest of London, covering 660 square miles (1,700 km2) across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, and Bedfordshire, stretching 45 miles (72 km) from Goring-on-Thames in the southwest to Hitchin in the northeast. The hills are 12 miles (19 km) at their widest. In 1965, almost half of the Chiltern Hills was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The northwest boundary is clearly defined by the escarpment. The dip slope is by definition more gradual, and merges with the landscape to the southeast. The southwest endpoint is the River Thames. The hills decline slowly in prominence in northeast Bedfordshire.

Turville Grange is a large detached house in the village of Turville Heath in the English county of Buckinghamshire. It was built in the late 18th century and expanded and altered c.1890 for a Stephen Smith. It has been listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England since June 1955. A wing to the rear of the house was added by Walter Tapper in the 1900s.

Aston Rowant railway station was opened in 1872 and was a part of the Watlington and Princes Risborough Railway. Having closed in 1961, there have been proposals to reopen the station not only to the heritage services of the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway, but also National Rail commuter services operated by Chiltern Railways.
