Eissee

The Taubenkogel is a 2,301-metre (7,549 ft) high peak in the Dachstein Mountains of Upper Austria, northeast of the Hallstätter Glacier. It can be reached from the summit station of the Dachstein Cable Car on the Gjaidalm or from the Simony Hut. In good weather there is a fine view from the summit of the Hoher Dachstein, the Gjaidstein and the Hallstätter Glacier.

The Dachstein Chapel (German: Dachsteinkapelle) is located immediately next to the Simony Hut in the Dachstein Mountains. It lies at a height of 2,206 metres (7,238 ft) and is the highest place of worship in the Northern Limestone Alps. It is located within the municipality area of Hallstatt in the district of Gmunden (Upper Austria) in Austria. It belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Linz and is a cultural heritage monument.

The Simony Hut (German: Simonyhütte) is an Alpine club hut belonging to the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) located at a height of 2,205 metres, just below the Hallstätter Glacier at the foot of the Hoher Dachstein in Austria. The hut, named after Friedrich Simony, the first person to ascend Hoher Dachstein, is situated high above Hallstatt in the northern part of the Dachstein Mountains. It is open year-round and, in winter, offers numerous options for ski tours and snowshoeing.The Simony Hut is an important base for climbers because they are able to set out from here on long tours over the Dachsteins. There is also a mountaineering school where training courses are run for glacier or ice climbing. The Dachstein Chapel is nearby.

The Hoher Gjaidstein is a 2,794 metres (9,167 ft) high mountain peak in the Dachstein Mountains in Upper Austria east and above the Hallstätter Glacier. It may be reached from the summit station of the Dachstein South Face Cable Car or from the Simony Hut each of which is an easy grade I climb. As well as the Hoher Gjaidstein (="High Gjaidstein") there is also the Niederen Gjaidstein ("Low Gjaidstein", 2,482 metres [8,143 ft]) and the Kleinen Gjaidstein ("Little Gjaidstein", 2,734 metres [8,970 ft]). The mountain was climbed as early as 1823 by de Halley from the north from the Gjaid cirque (Gjaidkar). Whether the actual summit had been conquered earlier is not known.

Dachstein Glacier is a glacier located between the towns of Ramsau am Dachstein in the south and Hallstatt and Obertraun in the north, in Austria. Snow is at the top of the glacier throughout the year. However snow is soft in summer. This mountain is located at the borders of Salzburg, Upper Austria and Styria. The train stops at Schladming and from there is a bus to the village below the Dachstein Mountains.

The Dachstein Mountains (German: Dachsteingebirge) are a mountain range in the Northern Limestone Alps. The term is used by the Austrian Alpine Club in its classification of the Eastern Alps as one of the 24 sub-ranges of the Northern Limestone Alps (AVE No. 14). The Dachstein range includes: The Dachstein Massif proper with its highest peak, the Hoher Dachstein (2,995 m (AA)) Grimming (2,351 m above sea level (AA)) in the east to the upper Styrian Enns valley Sarstein (1,975 m above sea level (AA)) in the north at the other bank of the River Traun

The Hallstätter Glacier (German: Hallstätter Gletscher) (formerly also called the Karleisfeld or Karl Icefield) is the largest glacier in the Dachstein Mountains. It lies immediately beneath the northern foot of the Dachstein itself and runs down to the Eissee lake below the Simony Hut at a height of 2,205 metres (7,234 ft). To the east the Hallstätter Glacier is bounded by the High Gjaidstein. Firmly sealed off at its western snout by the Schöberl, 2,426 metres (7,959 ft), it is bordered in the west by the eastern flank of the Hohes Kreuz ridge, running from south to north, which reaches a height of 2,837 metres (9,308 ft). In its upper third the glacier flows around a prominent landmark, the Eisstein. At its head in the south it is also bordered by the Hunerkogel and the Dirndln.Other glaciers on the Dachstein are the Gosau Glacier to the west and the Schladminger Glacier to the east.

The Salzkammergut and Upper Austria Alps (Oberösterreichisch-Salzkammerguter Alpen in German) is the proposed name for a subdivision of mountains in a new classification of the Alps, which are located in Austria.

Hoher Dachstein (German: [ˈhoːɐ ˈdaxʃtaɪn]) is a strongly karstic mountain in central Austria and the second-highest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps. It is situated at the border of Upper Austria and Styria, and is the highest point in each of those states. Parts of the massif also lie in the state of Salzburg, leading to the mountain being referred to as the Drei-Länder-Berg ("three-state mountain"). The Dachstein massif covers an area of around 600 square kilometres (230 sq mi) with dozens of peaks above 2,500 m, the highest of which are in the southern and southwestern areas. The main summit of the Hoher Dachstein is at an elevation of 2,995 metres (9,826 ft). Seen from the north, the Dachstein massif is dominated by glaciers with rocky summits rising beyond them. By contrast, to the south, the mountain drops almost vertically to the valley floor.

The Hirlatzhöhle is a cave in the Dachstein massif in the municipality of Hallstatt in the Upper Austrian part of the Salzkammergut. The total length of the cave known to date is over 115 km. It is therefore the third longest cave in Austria and, at 1559 m deep, the second deepest cave in Austria. The deepest point is at 443 m above sea level and therefore 65 m below the water level of the nearby Hallstättersee. It is the 21st longest cave in the world.
