Augusta Arsenal

The Stephen Vincent Benét House, commonly referred to as Benét House, is a historic house on the Summerville campus of Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. The house was built 1827–29 as the Commandant's House of the Augusta Arsenal, and is a much-altered example of Federal period architecture. The house was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971 for its association with the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Stephen Vincent Benét (1898–1943), who lived here in the 1910s. The house, which housed the official residence of the Augusta State University for a time, presently houses the Summerville campus's office of admissions.

Augusta State University was a public university in Augusta, Georgia. It merged with Georgia Health Sciences University in 2012 to form Georgia Regents University, later known as Augusta University.

Summerville, (commonly referred to locally as "The Hill"), is a large, affluent residential area and historic district located northwest of downtown Augusta, Georgia. The district is site of the historic homes of John Milledge, George Walton, and Thomas Cumming.

The Sand Hills Historic District in Augusta, Georgia is a historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. The district included 334 contributing buildings and a contributing site in a 231 acres (0.93 km2) area roughly bounded by Monte Sano and North View Aves., Mount Auburn St., Johns Rd., and the Augusta Country Club.It is also known as Elizabethtown Historic District. The district "is a historic African-American neighborhood located in the western part of Augusta adjacent to the National Register-listed Summerville Historic District. The neighborhood is laid out in an incomplete grid pattern and consists of a historic African-American cemetery, residential buildings, commercial buildings, community landmark buildings, and landscaped yards and median of a road. The neighborhood's development is closely associated with the development of the Summerville neighborhood. The Sand Hills Historic District has statewide significance in the areas of Architecture, Ethnic Heritage: African American, Community Planning and Development, and Landscape Architecture."It is roughly bounded by Monte Sano Ave., North View Avenue, Mount Auburn Street, Johns Road, and the Augusta Country Club.It borders on the Augusta Country Club, which itself borders on the Augusta National Golf Club.

The Reid–Jones–Carpenter House, located at 2249 Walton Way, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, constructed in 1849, is a single story wood-frame building on raised basement of stuccoed brick. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1979.

Summerville Cemetery is a cemetery in Augusta, Georgia. It is maintained by the City of Augusta.

University Hospital Summerville was founded in 1952, as a private Roman Catholic tertiary care facility known as St. Joseph Hospital located in Augusta, Georgia. The hospital is known for its comprehensive diagnostic services, including cardiac catheterization, magnetic resonance imaging, and osteoporosis treatment.

The Partridge Inn, in Augusta, Georgia, is a hotel in the Curio Collection by Hilton. Its current full name is The Partridge Inn Augusta, Curio Collection by Hilton. A portion of the hotel began as part of a private home in 1836. The area developed into a popular destination for vacationers escaping the winter in the Northeast United States. The hotel was officially opened in 1910. In 1923, city officials chose the Partridge as the site of a gala for then-President Warren G. Harding.After Henry Flagler extended railroads to Florida and shifted tourist demand from Georgia to Florida, the owner of the Partridge Inn sold the building. After a period as an apartment building, the building fell into disrepair and was slated for demolition. In the 1980s, civic leaders in Augusta saved the building from demolition and it reopened as a hotel in 1988.The hotel celebrated its centennial in 2010.

College Hill, also known as George Walton House, Harper House, or Walton-Harper House, is a historic house at 2116 Wrightsboro Road in Augusta, Georgia. It was built in 1795, and was the home George Walton, a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence, from then until his death in 1804. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971. It is a private residence, and is not open to the public.

The 1962 Titleholders Championship was the 23rd Titleholders Championship, held April 26–30 at Augusta Country Club in Augusta, Georgia. Defending champion Mickey Wright sank a ten-foot (3 m) putt for par on the 72nd hole to tie Ruth Jessen and force the first playoff in the event's history.Wright won the 18-hole playoff by three strokes, 69 to 72, to repeat as champion.Barbara Romack held a five-shot lead after 36 holes, but finished two strokes back in solo third.

The 1964 Titleholders Championship was the 25th Titleholders Championship, held April 23–26 at Augusta Country Club in Augusta, Georgia. Reigning champion Marilynn Smith successfully defended her title, one stroke ahead of runner-up Mickey Wright. The two had met in an 18-hole playoff the previous year which was decided on the final green. Wright had won the title in 1961 and 1962. It was the second and final major title for Smith. Her second round 66 (−6) on Friday set several records for this championship, including lowest round, lowest score after 36 holes at 139 (−5), 54 holes at 216 (even), and 72 holes at 289 (+1). Her Friday inward nine score of 31 was also a record, by two strokes.In the third round on Saturday, scores soared in the rain and cold wind. Smith's 77 (+5) kept the lead at an even-par 216 for 54 holes, three shots ahead of Wright.

The 1963 Titleholders Championship was the 24th Titleholders Championship, held April 25–29 at Augusta Country Club in Augusta, Georgia. Two-time defending champion Mickey Wright came from three strokes back on Sunday to tie Marilynn Smith and force the second consecutive playoff at the event.Tied after nine holes in the 18-hole playoff on Monday, Smith fell three strokes behind, then Wright double-bogeyed the par-3 14th and Smith birdied the 16th to tie. All even on the 18th green, Wright missed a 12-foot (3.7 m) par putt while Smith sank hers from 8 feet (2.4 m) to take her first major title. It was the first of two consecutive wins in the championship for Smith, age 34, which were her only two major titles. Wright was the 36-hole leader at 146 (+2), a stroke ahead of Smith.
