The Raven Rock Mountain Complex (RRMC), also known as Site R, is a U.S. military installation with an underground nuclear bunker near Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania, at Raven Rock Mountain that has been called an "underground Pentagon".: 2  The bunker has emergency operations centers for the United States Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. Along with Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center in Virginia and the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado, it formed the core bunker complexes for the US continuity of government plan during the Cold War to survive a nuclear attack.

The Monterey Historic District is a national historic district that is located in Washington Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Monterey, Pennsylvania, is an unincorporated community which was added to the USGS Geographic Names Information System on August 2, 1979. After the site was surveyed c. 1839 for the never-completed Tapeworm Railroad, the summit community was settled on the Emmitsburg & Waynesboro Turnpike [2] east of the Nichol's Gap Road intersection near the Toll Gate and Brown's Spring and later bypassed by the 20th century Pennsylvania Route 16 highway. As with the Pen Mar Park to the south, Monterey was the site of numerous resort facilities such as the Clermont House, 1887 Monterey Hotel,[3] the Monterey House,[4] the Monterey Inn, the Monterey Academy,[5] and the Monterey Country Club. The community's post office established in the late 19th century was named Charmian (another PA post office already was named Monterey),: 7  and the Charmian station of the Baltimore and Harrisburg Railway was established after the Western Extension was laid in 1888–1889 (cf. Monterey Station in 1872).

The Monterey Country Club, which was built before 1885, is home to one of the oldest golf courses in the United States. The club sits just below the peaks of 1,720 Mt. Dunlap and 1,365 Monterey Peak in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania and is less than one mile (1.6 km) from the Mason–Dixon line and about 8 miles (13 km) away from Camp David.

Monterey Pass is a 1,300 feet (0.40 km) mountain pass located in Franklin County, southern Pennsylvania.

Blue Ridge Summit is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, United States, southwest of Gettysburg in the central part of the state, adjoining Pennsylvania's southern border with Maryland. It is less than 3 miles (5 km) east of Pen Mar, Maryland. The population of Blue Ridge Summit was 887 at the 2020 census.The community was the birthplace of Wallis Simpson, the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor (previously King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom). It is also home to one of the 15 oldest golf courses in the United States. Built before 1885, the Monterey Country Club has served as a summer retreat for many Washingtonians, and American presidents Woodrow Wilson, Calvin Coolidge and Dwight D. Eisenhower all played the Monterey Country Club course.

The Victor Cullen School Power House is a historic power house building located at Sabillasville, Frederick County, Maryland. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, Renaissance Revival stone erection, with a hip roof and a fully exposed basement. The building was built originally as part of the Maryland Tuberculosis Sanitorium, the first state sponsored institution of its type in Maryland. It was designed by architects Wyatt & Nolting.The Victor Cullen School Power House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Victor Cullen Center, Old Administration Building is a historic building located at Sabillasville, Frederick County, Maryland, United States. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, stone and frame Colonial Revival style structure located on a hillside with four stone chimneys, two on each gable end. The building was built originally to house the Maryland Tuberculosis Sanitorium, the first state sponsored institution of its type in Maryland. It was designed by the architectural firm Wyatt & Nolting.The Old Administration Building of the Victor Cullen Center was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Sabillasville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Frederick County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 354.The Victor Cullen School Power House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 and the Victor Cullen Center, Old Administration Building was listed in 1990.

Maria Furnace is a South Mountain populated place on Toms Creek in Adams County, Pennsylvania, United States, west of Fairfield, that was the location of an 1822 blast furnace until operations were moved to Caledonia. The remains of the original blast furnace ("Maria Furnace") are located at coordinates: 39|46|30.64 N, 77|24|25.98 W. The remains consist of a pile of rocks in a small wooded area overgrown with vegetation.

South Mountain is the northern extension of the Blue Ridge Mountain range in Maryland and Pennsylvania. From the Potomac River near Knoxville, Maryland in the south to Dillsburg, Pennsylvania in York County, Pennsylvania in the north, the 70-mile-long (110 km) range separates the Hagerstown and Cumberland valleys from the Piedmont regions of the two states. The Appalachian Trail follows the crest of the mountain through Maryland and a portion of Pennsylvania.

Highfield-Cascade is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washington County, Maryland, United States. The CDP is, however, more commonly referred to as just Cascade, MD. The official CDP name encompasses two closely-spaced unincorporated communities, Highfield and Cascade. The population of the CDP was 1,141 at the 2000 census.
