The 14th Curtis Cup Match was played on July 29 and 30, 1966 on the Cascades course at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. The United States won by 13 matches to 5, to retain the trophy. The United States took a 7–2 lead after the opening day and won two of the foursomes and three of the singles matches on the final day to win the contest.

The Ashwood School is a historic school building at 5604 United States Route 220 in Hot Springs, Virginia. It is a two-story brick building with a low-pitch hip roof and modest Classical Revival styling. It was built about 1909, and served all grades until 1927, when a new high school was built. It then served as an elementary school until its closure in 1969. It served only white students in the racially segregated county school system until 1965, when court cases mandated its integration. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Douthat State Park is a state park located in the Allegheny Mountains in Virginia. It is in Bath County and Alleghany County. The park is 4,545 acres (18 km2) total with a 50-acre (20 ha) lake, the second-largest Virginia state park after Pocahontas State Park. It is one of the original Virginia state parks built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

The Omni Homestead Resort is a luxury resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, United States, in the middle of the Allegheny Mountains. The area has the largest hot springs in the commonwealth, and the resort is also known for its championship golf courses, which have hosted several national tournaments. The resort also includes an alpine ski resort; founded in 1959, it is the oldest in Virginia. The resort has been designated a National Historic Landmark; it has a history extending more than two and a half centuries. The Omni Homestead Resort is a member of Historic Hotels of America the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The 1967 U.S. Women's Open was the 22nd U.S. Women's Open, held June 29 to July 2 at the Cascades Course of The Homestead, in Hot Springs, Virginia. This winner was Catherine Lacoste, age 22, the first international and youngest champion at the time and the only amateur to ever win the title. She held a five-stroke lead after 36 and 54 holes, and despite a final round 79, held on for a two-stroke victory margin over runners-up Susie Maxwell and Beth Stone. It was also the first win by an amateur on the LPGA Tour. Defending champion Sandra Spuzich finished fifteen strokes back, tied for 27th place.
