The Waalhaven is a harbour in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It used to be home to an airport, Vliegveld Waalhaven (Waalhaven Airport). It was the second civilian airport in the Netherlands and was opened in 1920. Part of it was also in use by the Dutch military's 3rd JaVA Fokker G.I squadron in 1940. Amongst others, the N.V. Koolhoven aircraft factory was located at this airport. The factory and airport were destroyed in 1940 by the Dutch army so it could not get into the hands of the Germans. After the Second World War, the city was in a prospect of finding an airport, but the existing airfield at Waalhaven was written off the list, because the damage that was caused to prevent the airfield's capture was so great it was considered not worth repairing. An industrial zone now lies on the location of the former airport, with aviation having moved to Zestienhoven Airport.

Rhoon is a village that borders the municipality of the city of Rotterdam, South Holland, the Netherlands. According to its history it was established in 1199 and was ruled by the lords of Duiveland. In the 14th century the village was struck by many floods. In the last big flood, the North Sea flood of 1953, the Dutch government implemented the "deltawerken" (Delta Works). This is a large protection barrier of dikes and dams to keep the water of the North Sea out during high tides. In 1969 Rhoon also became part of this plan and a large dike was established around the island of IJsselmonde. Rhoon is part of the island of IJsselmonde and situated in the south of this island. On the lands outside the dikes is a small yacht marina on the banks of the river Oude Maas, and also a "griend" which is a tidal forest. The river Oude Maas has a tidal difference of around 1.2 meter in a twice daily cycle. Since 1 January 1985, the village has been part of the municipality of Albrandswaard together with Poortugaal.The village has a connection to the city of Rotterdam by Rotterdam Metro line D, through Rhoon station. In Rhoon is the Dutch Consulate General of Ireland.

Oud-Charlois is a neighborhood of Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The D'Oliphant, also written as De Oliphant, was commissioned in 1591 by Cornelis van Wijkcool as "boerenbehuizinge" built near Nieuwesluis on the island Voorne. Oliphant translates into "Elephant" although the current spelling of the Dutch word is Olifant. The octagonal tower part of the house was probably designed to give the allure of a knight homestead and to suggest that the owner belonged to an ancient and noble family. The house was moved in 1975 and is now located at the Kromme Zandweg 90 in the district of Charlois in Rotterdam.

Delft was a Dutch 56-gun fourth-rate ship of the line of the navy of the Dutch Republic and the Batavian Republic. The order to construct the ship was given on 27 May 1782 by the Admiralty of the Meuse. Delft was commissioned on 16 May 1783 by the United Netherlands Navy. On 24 December 1787 Delft set sail on a mission against the Barbary pirates and protected Dutch traders in the Mediterranean Sea. For the ship's second mission starting 31 May 1793 Theodorus Frederik van Capellen became the new commanding officer. During this mission he freed 75 Dutch slaves from Algiers. In 1795 the French conquered the Dutch Republic and the new Batavian Republic was founded. The French initially disarmed Delft because they feared that Orangist rebels would use her, but later the Dutch reactivated her to participate in the war with Britain. Gerrit Verdooren van Asperen became her captain. On 11 October 1797 Delft took part in the Battle of Camperdown. After heavy fighting she struck to the British; she sank off Scheveningen four days later while being towed to Britain. During the battle the British captured the Dutch Hercules under Captain G.J. van Rijsoort. They renamed her HMS Delft, in honour of the brave resistance Delft had made in the battle.Since 2001 till 2018 work had been under way in Rotterdam to build a replica of Delft at Historical Shipyard 'de Delft' (Dutch: Historische Scheepswerf 'de Delft') in Delfshaven, near to the place where the original ship was built.

The Slavery Monument is a memorial commemorating the Dutch history of slavery, located in the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. The monument was designed by Alex da Silva and is situated on Lloydkade in the Lloyd Quarter of the Delfshaven district.

Schiemond is a neighborhood of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Schiemond a postwar district in the west of the city with approximately 3,500 inhabitants. The district is bounded to the east by the port of Schiemond, in the south by the Nieuwe Maas, in the west by the port areas of IJselhaven and Pelgrimsstraat and Westzeedijk in the north. Schiemond consists mainly of social housing and was known as a 'problem district' in 2001. In recent years, improvements have occurred in here, and many buildings have been renovated. Schiemond was built in the eighties on a vacant port area, where the goodsyard of Wilton-Fijenoord and the company RS Stokvis and Sons were located.
