The Golden Dome Athletic Center in Newark, New Jersey is the hub of Rutgers–Newark athletics and teams, the Scarlet Raiders. It is located at 42 Warren Street between Downtown and University Heights. Built in 1977, it seats 2,000. The facility includes two gyms, five outdoor tennis courts, four racquetball courts, an exercise/dance studio and a 25-yard, eight-lane pool. Alumni Field across the street is the venue for NCAA baseball, softball and soccer games. Soccer and softball games are held on Alumni Field. Rutgers–Newark baseball team plays at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium

The Essex County Government Complex is located in Newark, the country seat of Essex County, New Jersey, U.S. at west of end of Market Street in Downtown. It is home to the Essex County Executive, the Board of County Commissioners, and the constitutional officers of the county: the County Clerk, the County Surrogate, and the County Sheriff as well as the County Register. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the 5th Vininage of New Jersey Superior Court is based at the government complex, across from which is the campus of Essex County College. The complex comprises various buildings built since 1904, when the historic courthouse was constructed, and is adorned with public art, including statues and busts of prominent civic leaders. Numerous state and county offices are located at the complex, which also has extensive parking facilities.

The Essex County Veterans Courthouse is located in Newark, New Jersey. It was built in 1904 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 26, 1975. The building, designed by Cass Gilbert, has a four-story rotunda topped with a Tiffany skylight. It features artwork from some of the most well known artists of the American Renaissance period including Seated Lincoln by Gutzon Borglum. The annex was completed the 1960s. Jack Murphy of Fava Associates was the lead architect on the annex project. The courthouse complex was further expanded in 2021 to include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Judicial Building.

The Prudential Lions are sculptures in Newark, New Jersey designed by Karl Bitter. The two carved limestone companion pieces depict seated male lions, each with its front paw placed on a sphere. They are approximately 7 feet (2.1 m) tall and weigh 2,900 pounds (1,300 kg) each. They been placed in three different locations. The works were originally created 1901 and stood above the front entrance of the Prudential Headquarters in Newark, New Jersey until the Prudential Home Office was demolished in 1956 and they were removed. They were given to Essex County Parks Commission by the Prudential Insurance Company of America and installed in Branch Brook Park in 1959.In 2011, the Branch Brook Park Alliance commissioned the restoration the original statues and the creation of precast concrete replicas. The original sculptures were placed at the Essex County Hall of Records, adjacent to the Essex County Courthouse, while the replicas were placed in the park where the originals had been located.

Seated Lincoln is a 1911 sculpture by Gutzon Borglum, located next to the Essex County Veterans Courthouse in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 30, 1995, for its significance in art.

There are two statues of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in Newark, New Jersey. Both are located on the Essex County Courthouse Complex at its newest addition, the Martin Luther King Justice Building.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office (ECPO) is the largest and busiest county prosecutor's office in the State of New Jersey. It consists of approximately 140 assistant prosecutors (attorneys at law), 160 detectives licensed to carry arms, and 125 support staff. ECPO presently processes between 16,000 and 20,000 adult defendants charged with criminal acts per year. In addition, between 3,500 and 5,000 juveniles are processed each year through delinquency proceedings. Most of these defendants are arrested and charged by local or county-level law enforcement agencies, but ECPO also originates charges against defendants through its own investigatory units, and via direct indictment by the Essex County Grand Jury (i.e., charges issued directly by the grand jury and not prior to grand jury review). Between 5,000 and 6,000 adult defendants are indicted in Essex County each year. Essex County currently accounts for about 18% of all criminal (felony) cases referred to county prosecutors' offices in New Jersey. Approximately 35% of the state's homicides and 14% of sexual assaults occur in Essex.

cWOW Gallery, also known as City Without Walls Gallery, is located in Newark, New Jersey, occupying a building on Halsey Street at Crawford Street in the Lincoln Park/The Coast Cultural District.City Without Walls is New Jersey's oldest not-for-profit alternative art space, in continuous operation since 1975 with a "two-fold mission offers career development opportunities to new and emerging artists, while providing the public a chance to understand and enjoy challenging contemporary art." The alternative art space relies on members to curate their on-site and off-site gallery spaces, cWOW, which stands for City Without Walls, has an estimated 6-10 exhibitions per year. It also runs three educational programs called City Murals, Newark New Media, and ArtReach.cWOW operates a gallery in the atrium of One Newark Center. Both spaces are on the citywide Open Doors Studio Tour.

The Martin Tuchman School of Management is the business school of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), in Newark, New Jersey.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a public research university in Newark, New Jersey with a graduate-degree-granting satellite campus in Jersey City. Founded in 1881 with the support of local industrialists and inventors especially Edward Weston, NJIT opened as Newark Technical School (NTS) in 1885 with 88 students. The school grew into a classic engineering college – Newark College of Engineering (NCE) – and then with the addition of a School of Architecture in 1973, into a polytechnic university that now hosts five colleges and one school. As of fall 2021 the university enrolls about 11,900 students from 83 countries, 2,500 of whom live on its main campus in Newark's University Heights district.NJIT offers 51 undergraduate (Bachelor of Science/Arts) majors and 71 graduate (Masters and PhD) programs. Via its Honors College it also offers professional programs in Healthcare and Law in collaboration with nearby institutions including Rutgers Medical School and Seton Hall Law School. It operates the Big Bear Solar Observatory, the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (both in California) and a suite of automated observatories across Antarctica, South America and the US.As of May 2022 the school's founders, faculty and alumni include a Turing Award winner (2011), a Dannie Heineman Prize for Mathematical Physics winner (2015), 9 members of the National Academy of Engineering, 2 members of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, 1 member of the National Academy of Sciences, an astronaut, a National Medal of Technology and Innovation winner, a Congressional Gold Medal winner, a William Bowie Medal winner, multiple IEEE medalists and 18 members of the National Academy of Inventors including 6 senior members. Over the past 20 years NJIT graduates have won, among others, 17 Goldwaters, 6 Fulbrights, 6 Borens, 12 Gilmans, 6 DAADs, an AMGEN Scholarship, an NIH Medical Research Scholarship, 2 GEM Fellowships, a Tau Beta Pi graduate Fellowship, a Humanity in Action Fellowship, a RGSP Scholarship, a Brooke Owens Fellowship and 21 NSF Graduate Research Fellowships.NJIT is a member of the Sea grant and Space grant research consortia. It has participated in the McNair Scholars Program since 1999. It is a designated Asian American Native American Pacific Islander serving institution (AANAPISI). With 19 varsity teams, the NCAA Division I "Highlanders" mainly compete in the America East Conference.

The Weston Museum is located within the Van Houten Library at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the University Heights section of Newark, New Jersey. The small museum contains items developed and manufactured by Edward Weston, as well as instruments and devices from his laboratory. A contemporary of Thomas Edison, Weston was a scientist, an inventor, and a founding member of the board of trustees of the university and the Weston Electric Company. Dr. Weston's rare book collection is also maintained available to scholars and others interested in the history of science and technology.

St. Benedict's Preparatory School is a Catholic college preparatory school in Newark, New Jersey run by the Benedictine monks of Newark Abbey. The school serves boys and girls in kindergarten through twelfth grade on a 12-acre (4.9 ha) urban campus. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1990.
