Alabaster is a city and southern suburb of Birmingham in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 33,284. Alabaster is the 16th largest city in Alabama by number of residents.

Siluria is a former town and now a neighborhood in Alabaster, Alabama, United States, located in Shelby County in the Birmingham, Alabama, metropolitan area. It was the home of a large cotton mill and company-built mill village which began operations in 1896 and finally closed in 1979. It was incorporated on May 25, 1954, but was later annexed by Alabaster in May 1971. It is named for the Silurian geological period because of rocks found there. A post office was established in 1872, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1972.

Saginaw is an unincorporated community 2.5 miles north of Calera in Shelby County, Alabama, United States with zip code 35137. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman Combined Statistical Area. It is located southeast of Alabaster on the east side of Interstate 65 at the intersection of State Route 70 and U.S. Route 31. Saginaw is the home of the Saginaw Pipe Company, Inc., a major supplier of steel pipe, beams, tubing, and plate. The Dravo Lime Company quarry in Saginaw was honored for their outstanding safety record in the annual Sentinels of Safety awards program co-sponsored by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the National Mining Association (NMA) in 1997 and 1999.

Helena High School is a public high school in Helena, Alabama. It opened in August 2014, at the beginning of the 2014–15 school year. For the 2023-2024 school year, Helena High School will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary. This will be a very special year and many exciting events are planned for throughout the school year.

The Hillsboro Trail is a rail trail in Shelby County, Alabama. The 12-foot-wide trail extends 1.9 miles (3.1 km) along the former roadbed of the Helena & Blocton branch line of the Birmingham Mineral Railroad, a subsidiary of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad.
