South Branch Raritan River

Readingsburg, also known as Stone Mill, is an unincorporated community located along the South Branch Raritan River within Clinton Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.The community is centered at County Route 639 at the intersection of Raritan River Road and Cokesbury Road, and is located 3.6 miles (5.8 km) northeast of Spruce Run Reservoir and 4.5 miles (7.2 km) east-southeast of Hampton.Readingsburg is located in New Jersey's Highlands geographical province, in northern Hunterdon County at the mouth of the Ken Lockwood Gorge in the narrow, heavily wooded valley cut by the south branch of the Raritan River through the first hills rising above the Piedmont lowlands. The small hamlet hugs the east bank of the south branch at the intersection of a road crossing the river with another following its east bank. A water power site first utilized in the second quarter of the 19th century provided the nucleus for the settlement which consists of several houses clustered around the cross roads as well as mill sites up and down stream from the bridge and two houses on the west bag of the river. The community is surrounded mostly by Woodland with scattered dwellings. The town of Highbridge is located about 1 mile south of Readingsburg; the village of Cokesbury lies several miles to the east. The hamlet of Readingsburg, also called Stone Mill, is the site of 18th and 19th Century watered powered mills. According to a previous State Historical marker, since removed, it was placed on the State Register of historic sites in 1999. Previous owners and operators of the Mill lived in the stone house located at 2 Stone Mill Road, Annandale NJ 98801. The building located at 450 Cokesbury Road was the General Store.

High Bridge is a borough in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 3,546, a decrease of 102 (−2.8%) from the 2010 census count of 3,648, which in turn reflected a decline of 128 (−3.4%) from the 3,776 counted in the 2000 census.

The High Bridge School District is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade from High Bridge, in Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprised of two schools, had an enrollment of 370 students and 38.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.7:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Public school students in ninth through twelfth grades attend Voorhees High School, which also serves students from Califon, Glen Gardner, Hampton, Lebanon Township and Tewksbury Township. As of the 2018–19 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 982 students and 83.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.8:1. The school is part of the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District, which also includes students from Bethlehem Township, Clinton Town, Clinton Township, Franklin Township, Lebanon Borough and Union Township who attend North Hunterdon High School in Annandale.

High Bridge Reformed Church is a historic church located at Church Street and County Route 513 in High Bridge in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The church, built in 1870, is part of the Reformed Church in America. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 21, 1980, for its significance in architecture and religion.

Ken Lockwood Gorge is between Califon and High Bridge in Lebanon Township of Hunterdon County, New Jersey. It was purchased in 1948 by the Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife and has been referred to as “one of New Jersey's most beautiful places.” It is presently administered by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. The 2½-mile (4 km) stretch of the South Branch Raritan River comprises the central feature of this 563-acre (228 ha) Wildlife Management Area. Steep, hilly woodlands host a plethora of flora and fauna including both game and non-game varieties, including a diverse population of birds and mammals. Ken Lockwood Gorge is best known as a trout fishing destination. The New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife has designated the area as a "Trout Conservation Area", in which a separate set of rules apply. The limits are different from most other sections of the Raritan River, and fishing with bait is prohibited.The gorge is named after Kenneth F. Lockwood, an outdoor journalist and conservationist. Ken Lockwood was best known for his column, "Out In The Open", which ran in the now-defunct Newark Evening News. He was also a strong advocate for land conservation, promoting setting aside land for hunting and fishing. Ken Lockwood died on April 2, 1948, on the way home from his weekly radio program. Ken Lockwood Gorge was named after him a short time later.The Columbia Trail passes through the gorge and crosses the river on the Ken Lockwood Gorge Bridge.

Paul Robinson Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by the New Jersey Astronomical Association. It is located at Voorhees State Park in Lebanon Township, New Jersey.

The Skylands Region (simply known as Skylands) is a region of New Jersey located in the northern and central parts of the state. It is one of six tourism regions established by the New Jersey State Department of Tourism; the others are Gateway Region, Greater Atlantic City Region, the Southern Shore Region, the Delaware River Region, and the Shore Region.The Skylands Region officially encompasses Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties; the northwestern part of the Passaic County fits in with the Skylands Region, but it is part of the Gateway Region and not the Skylands Region. One could also say that the westernmost part of Bergen (in the Ramapo Mountains) is also part of the Skylands. The area features uplifted land, rolling hills and mountainous characteristics of North Jersey. The region contains 60,000 acres (240 km²) of state parkland and a diverse geography filled with lakes, rivers, and picturesque hills.

Voorhees State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is 1,400 acres (5.7 km2) in area and is located in Lebanon Township. The park is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.

Voorhees High School is a four-year public high school located in Lebanon Township, named for Foster McGowan Voorhees, the 30th Governor of New Jersey. It is one of two high schools in the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades from seven municipalities in northern Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1977.Students come from the constituent municipalities of Califon, Hampton, High Bridge, Lebanon Township and Tewksbury Township. Clinton Town and Glen Gardner residents can select either North Hunterdon or Vorhees High.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 780 students and 76.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.2:1. There were 14 students (1.8% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 12 (1.5% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

High Bridge is a railway station in High Bridge, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The station is the western terminus of the New Jersey Transit's Raritan Valley Line. The next station eastward is Annandale. The parking lot for the station is located one block to the west. The station only uses the southern track for inbound and outbound trains. The former Central Railroad of New Jersey station house, constructed in 1913, is currently used for storage and there is a covered waiting area under the building canopy. This station has no weekend service. The railroad, and the moniker of High Bridge, was constructed in 1852 through the valley. Despite causing a boom to a local iron works, the railroad did not establish a station in the area until 1856. Until 1983, Raritan Valley service continued westward to Phillipsburg. Limited service and low ridership led NJ Transit to discontinue all service west of High Bridge. Since service ended, there have been repeated investigations and requests for daily service to be extended back to Phillipsburg.

The Ken Lockwood Gorge Bridge is a steel plate girder bridge built for the High Bridge Branch of the Central Railroad of New Jersey (CNJ) to cross the South Branch Raritan River in Ken Lockwood Gorge of Hunterdon County, New Jersey. It is now open for pedestrian traffic on the Columbia Trail, a rail trail that starts in High Bridge.

Bunnvale is an unincorporated community located within Lebanon Township, Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.Bunnvale is located on County Route 513, approximately 4 mi (6.4 km) northwest of Lebanon Borough. The Raritan River and the Ken Lockwood Gorge Wildlife Management Area are located east of Bunnvale.
