North Philadelphia/West is a neighborhood in the western central part of the North Philadelphia section of Philadelphia east of the Schuylkill River. North Philadelphia/West is the section of North Philadelphia located west of North Broad St. It is bordered by Poplar St and West Girard Ave in the south, West Lehigh Ave in the north and Ridge Ave in the west. North Philadelphia/West is bordered by the neighborhoods of North Philadelphia/East, Fairmount, Parkland and Allegheny West. North Central, Philadelphia is east of North Philadelphia West. The Anna B. Pratt Elementary School (commonly referred to as the Anna B. Pratt Academy) was a district-run elementary school in Philadelphia. The school was closed in 2013 as part of Philadelphia's shutdown of 23 district-run schools. Displaced students were enrolled in the Richard R. Wright School and the William Dick School.

Recreation Park was a baseball park in Philadelphia. The ballpark was the first home of the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League during the years 1883–1886, prior to the opening of the ballpark that became known as Baker Bowl. The park was bounded by 24th Street (east, first base); Ridge Avenue (north, right field); Montgomery Avenue (northwest, center field); 25th Street (west, left field); and Columbia Avenue (south, third base) (which in 1987 was renamed Cecil B. Moore Avenue after the civil-rights leader). The park was not the only one in the area; 14 years later, Columbia Park, the first home of the Philadelphia Athletics, opened eight blocks to the west on Columbia Avenue, across the avenue to the south.

Union Methodist Episcopal Church, also known as Jones Tabernacle AME Church and Parish House, is a historic Methodist Episcopal church and parish house located in the North Central neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by the noted Philadelphia architects Hazelhurst & Huckel and built in 1888–1889, of cut stone in the Richardsonian Romanesque-style. The church has an entrance archway with squat Syrian columns; and the building features a prominent front gable, chimneys, towers and pinnacles. The gable has a checkerboard pattern of stone and a Palladian window. The church interior is divided into two principal levels, a first floor Sunday School, and the second floor sanctuary with balcony. In the 1930s, the church was sold to Jones Tabernacle AME Church, then under the leadership of Rev. Richard R. Wright, Jr., son of Richard R. Wright (1855-1947).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Plaza Apartments, also known as Vernon House, is a historic apartment complex located in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1909, and consists of three four-story, brick and stone buildings in the Colonial Revival style. The complex is arranged in a "U"-shape, with two narrow courtyards. The primary facade features two three-story wooden porches, with Corinthian order columns and balconies on top.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The Philadelphia race riot, or Columbia Avenue Riot, took place in the predominantly black neighborhoods of North Philadelphia from August 28 to August 30, 1964. Tensions between black residents of the city and police had been escalating for several months over several well-publicized allegations of police brutality.This riot was one of the first in the civil rights era and followed the 1964 Rochester race riot and Harlem riot of 1964 in New York City.

Most Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church, Rectory and Parochial School is a historic Roman Catholic Church complex located at 2800–2818 Diamond Street in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school was built between 1908 and 1912, the rectory in 1914, and the church between 1924 and 1927.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Thomas Fitzsimons Junior High School, later The Young Men's Leadership School at Thomas E. FitzSimons High School, was a public secondary school that, in its final years, was a secondary school for boys. It was located at 2601 West Cumberland Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States and was a part of the School District of Philadelphia. The school was named after Thomas FitzSimons, who was a signer of the Constitution of the United States.

The McDowell Memorial Presbyterian Church is a historic church in north Philadelphia, built in the Richardson Romanesque style by architects Henry Augustus Sims and J. William Shaw.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in September, 2013.

The Henry O. Tanner House is a historic house at 2908 West Diamond Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. It was from 1872 to 1888 the childhood home of Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859-1937), an African-American artist who was the first of his race to be elected to National Academy of Design. This rowhouse was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976.
