McDowell Memorial Presbyterian Church

The Philadelphia race riot, or Columbia Avenue Riot, took place in the predominantly black neighborhoods of North Philadelphia from August 28 to August 30, 1964. Tensions between black residents of the city and police had been escalating for several months over several well-publicized allegations of police brutality.This riot was one of the first in the civil rights era and followed the 1964 Rochester race riot and Harlem riot of 1964 in New York City.

The General George G. Meade School is an historic elementary/middle school which is located in the North Central neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Part of the School District of Philadelphia, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, and is a contributing property to the Lower North Philadelphia Speculative Housing Historic District.

Sharswood is a small neighborhood in the North Philadelphia section of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is located to the east of Brewerytown, north of Girard College, west of Ridge Avenue, and south of the Norman Blumberg apartment towers. Moore, Cabot, Fairhill, Francisville, Hartranft, Ludlow, North Central, Poplar, Sharswood, Spring Garden, South Lehigh, Stanton, Strawberry Mansion, Yorktown, Fairmount and Northern Liberties neighborhoods.

Gen. John F. Reynolds School is a historic school building located in the North Central neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Irwin T. Catharine and built in 1925–1926. It is a four-story, 12-bay by 3-bay, brick building on a raised basement in the Art Deco-style. It has a one-story addition on the eastern side built in 1958. It features an entrance with Doric order columns and decorative terra cotta panels. It was named for Civil War General John F. Reynolds (1820–1863). It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The school was closed in 2013 and sold to the Philadelphia Housing Authority in 2014.

The Woman's Hospital of Philadelphia was established in 1861 to provide clinical experience for Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania students, a group of Quaker women, particularly Ann Preston.

Recreation Park was a baseball park in Philadelphia. The ballpark was the first home of the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League during the years 1883–1886, prior to the opening of the ballpark that became known as Baker Bowl. The park was bounded by 24th Street (east, first base); Ridge Avenue (north, right field); Montgomery Avenue (northwest, center field); 25th Street (west, left field); and Columbia Avenue (south, third base) (which in 1987 was renamed Cecil B. Moore Avenue after the civil-rights leader). The park was not the only one in the area; 14 years later, Columbia Park, the first home of the Philadelphia Athletics, opened eight blocks to the west on Columbia Avenue, across the avenue to the south.

Athletic Grounds was a baseball field located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the 1860s. It was the first home of the Philadelphia Athletics (1860–1876). It was often called the grounds at 15th and Columbia.

The Wagner Free Institute of Science is a natural history museum at 1700 West Montgomery Avenue in north Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Founded in 1855, it is a rare surviving example of a Victorian era scientific society, with a museum, research center, library, and educational facilities. Its buildings, developed between 1859 and 1901, present the collections of founder William Wagner in the style of the period, and have been designated a National Historic Landmark for their architecture and state of preservation.

Union Methodist Episcopal Church, also known as Jones Tabernacle AME Church and Parish House, is a historic Methodist Episcopal church and parish house located in the North Central neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by the noted Philadelphia architects Hazelhurst & Huckel and built in 1888–1889, of cut stone in the Richardsonian Romanesque-style. The church has an entrance archway with squat Syrian columns; and the building features a prominent front gable, chimneys, towers and pinnacles. The gable has a checkerboard pattern of stone and a Palladian window. The church interior is divided into two principal levels, a first floor Sunday School, and the second floor sanctuary with balcony. In the 1930s, the church was sold to Jones Tabernacle AME Church, then under the leadership of Rev. Richard R. Wright, Jr., son of Richard R. Wright (1855-1947).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
