St. Luke's Regional Medical Center (Sioux City, Iowa)

The Peirce Mansion is a 23-room mansion located in Sioux City, Iowa. From 1960 until 2011, the mansion was home to the Sioux City Public Museum with exhibits relating to the history of the region. It is still owned by the Sioux City Public Museum and has now been restored to a Victorian-era appearance. It is open to the public for quarterly open house events and is available for rental. The mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Talking Ben and Harriet Schulein House is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. Built in 1913 for a locally prominent Jewish businessman and his wife, the two-story frame structure was designed by local architect William L. Steele. Its significance is derived from being one of the first successful Prairie School designs by Steele in the Sioux City. It was designed at the midpoint of his career and in the last decade of the Prairie style's popularity. As such, this house may mark a turning point in Steele's career. He began to abandon other architectural styles in favor of the Prairie style whenever the client and their budget would accommodate it. The Schulein House features a brick foundation, clapboard siding, and a hipped roof. The strong horizontal lines of the Prairie School style is found in the substantial overhang of the roofline, the wide attic dormers, the wide front porch and attached porte-cochere. It is also found in the window sills on the first floor that are tied to the foundation by way of the water table, and the lintels of the second floor windows that are tied to the fascia. The water table continues onto the front porch as its coping, which also contributes the horizontal nature of the design. There is a small garage on the property that shares the same roofline and construction with the house. The house and garage were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The Dr. Van Buren Knott House is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. Knott was a prominent local physician. He had Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw design this Colonial Revival-style house, which is considered an excellent example of the style. The 2½-story brick structure features a symmetrical facade, an entrance porch with Doric columns, a Palladian window above the front entrance, a single-story semi-circular room in the back, and a hip roof with dormers. On the south side of the house is a full width porch, with a sleeping porch on the second floor. A pergola in the back leads to a detached two-car garage, which was built a couple of years after the house. The house and garage were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Mylius–Eaton House is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. The house was built by Charles Mylius, who an Italian-born Englishman. Mylius, however, never lived here. That distinction belonged to Franz and Matilda Shenkberg, whose marriage ended in divorce and they sold the house in 1906 to Fred and Lillian Eaton. Eaton was a banker who became the president of the Sioux City Stock Yards, and he was involved in a variety of other businesses and organizations in the community. The house remained in the Eaton family until 1967. The three-story frame Queen Anne house was designed by local architect William D. McLaughlin. It is influenced by the phase of the style developed by Richard Norman Shaw in England. The house has irregular massing with a vertical emphasis. It features clapboard on the first floor, shingles on the second floor, and half-timbering on the third. A full-length porch is located on the main facade, and a porte-cochère on the north elevation. Two porches were carved into the second floor, but one has been removed. The two-story carriage house behind was built after the main house, and is sympathetic in design. The two buildings were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Saturday in the Park is an annual festival that is held at Grandview Park Municipal Bandshell in Sioux City, Iowa first held in 1991. The festival falls on the Saturday closest to the 4th of July and attracts around 50,000 people from all over the Midwest for the weekend. The festival coincides with an annual pilgrimage of representatives from Sioux City's sister city, Lake Charles, Louisiana, adding a Mardi Gras-inflected Cajun accent.

The Grandview Park Music Pavilion is a historic structure located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. The Monahan Post Band raised money in 1930 to build a modest music shell in the park. Construction was already underway when the park's neighbors objected to the design. The project was put on hold as the band raised more money and sought a more suitable design. After President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Civil Works Administration (CWA) in 1933, the city applied to have the new music shell included in Sioux City's projects. Henry L. Kamphoefner, an unknown Sioux City architect at that time, drew up the plans for the structure. The sculptural plaques on the front of the pavilion were designed by Herschel Elarth. The CWA approved the project on February 26, 1934, as CWA Project Number 217. The construction project required 52 tons of reinforcing steel, 4,200 bags of Portland cement, and 300 bags of white cement, and it was completed on October 17, 1934. Seating was constructed for 5,000 in the natural amphitheater. The pavilion was built using $47,436 from Federal Relief funds and $3,800 in materials from the city. It was dedicated in the spring of 1935. The Monahan Post Band continued to play here until 1948, when they became the Sioux City Municipal Band. They continue the summer-time tradition. The music pavilion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

The James P. Newton House and Maid Cottage are historic buildings located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. Newton was a prominent local businessman associated with Haskins Bros. & Co., whose principal product was soap. He was a traveling salesman with the company before he and his brothers bought the company in 1907. He succeeded his brother William as president in 1929. Newton had prominent Sioux City architect William L. Steele design this house, and it is one of his earliest works in the city. The 1½-story frame American Craftsman house and the single-story frame maid's house near the alley feature clapboard siding, porches with square columns, and low pitched hipped roofs with dormers. The bands of color and the wide eaves are elements from the Prairie School style for which Steele would become well known. The two houses were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The H.H. Everist House is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. Everist was the founder of L. G. Everist Inc. and Western Contracting Corporation. He had local architect William L. Steele design this Prairie School-style house. It is considered the finest example of Steele's residential designs in this style. M.N. Hegg built the house from 1916 to 1917, and he completed the drive in garage and landscaping in 1920. The irregular plan of the structure is executed on three levels. It features a horizontal emphasis with bands of windows. Decorative terra cotta bands are used as belt courses, chimney parapets, coping and trim work. The house is capped with multiple broad, tiled, overhanging hipped roofs. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Sioux City Public Library-North Side Branch, also known as Bruce Meyer Productions, is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. The city received a total of $85,000 in 1911 from Andrew Carnegie to build the main library and the Leeds branch library. It was the only city in Iowa to receive a grant for both a main and branch library. A $100,000 bond issue passed in 1926 to replace the temporary facilities for the other branch libraries throughout the city. The North Side Branch was designed by local architect William L. Steele in the Tudor Revival style, and was completed in 1929. It was used as a branch facility until 1982 when the city closed all of the branch libraries in 1982, except the Morningside branch. A new branch library was created on the north side. The old north branch was sold to Bruce Meyer for his photography studio. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The Sanford House, also known as the Stone House and Summit Mansion, is a historic residence in Sioux City, Iowa. Throughout the 1990s, it was commonly referred to as the “Home Alone house” in reference to the similar looking neocolonial residence featured in the eponymous film that had become a pop culture phenomenon. The house was built in 1914 by Lucia Stone in honor of her deceased husband, Edgar Stone, for $34,500 (equivalent to $880,000 in 2018). It was restored by Dr. John and Rebecca Marriott from 1994 to 1999 and submitted to the National Register of Historic Places by John and Kathy Pritchard on August 16, 2001. It was admitted on March 21, 2003 for the historical impact its various owners and their families have had on Sioux City; particularly Arthur Sanford, an entrepreneur who was named “Sioux City’s Greatest Builder” in 1954 that had “exercised more influence on Sioux City’s landscape than any other individual”. He is associated with the development, financing, and or management of approximately $400,000,000 (2018 inflation-adjusted) in real estate over the course of his career. Six of his properties are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Along with his wife, Stella, Arthur was also a prominent philanthropist who donated approximately $5,000,000 (2018 inflation-adjusted) to various causes throughout their lives with the “aim and ambition to do everything to make opportunities for the younger men and women of Sioux City”. Arthur was also very involved in politics, participating six Democratic national conventions, and hosted John F. Kennedy at the Sanford House during the 1960 United States presidential campaign.

Florence Crittenton Home and Maternity Hospital, also known as Crittenton Center and the Samaritan Retirement Home, were historic buildings located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. The Sioux City Women and Babies Home Association was incorporated on October 21, 1897. They began negotiations to join the National Crittenton Foundation in 1903, and incorporated as the Florence Crittenton Home of Sioux City on February 2, 1904. The purpose of the organization was to aid the "friendless, dependent women and girls, and may receive and dispose of babies of deceased fathers or mothers, or those abandoned by them, or those surrendered to this corporation by the order of any judge, court or officer, or legal guardian." It was the only Crittenton Home in Iowa. Their first order of business was to build the first part of this facility, which was completed in 1906. It was designed by the local architectural firm of Beach & Steele. Up to that time, Sioux City had no maternity hospital; so the services provided by the home were found no where else in the city. The maternity hospital was built in 1913. Ralph Arnold served as the architect. Services changed at the home as society changed. In the early years, many of the young women kept their babies, but adoptions became more prominent by the mid-20th century. The maternity hospital closed in 1928, and Methodist Hospital acquired the building for a dormitory for nursing students. It was converted into the Samaritan Retirement Home in 1949. The Crittenton Center determined the 1906 building no longer served its needs, and they moved to a new facility in 1998. The facility was sold to a developer. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. The building was empty when it was damaged in a fire in 2009, and it has subsequently been torn down. In 2018 it was delisted from the National Register of Historic Places.

The Atchison A. Ashby House is a historic building located in Sioux City, Iowa, United States. Ashby was a local physician who had this house built in 1916. The Tudor Revival structure was designed by Omaha architect Frederick A. Henniger. It is possible that he designed four other houses on this same block of Summit Street. The five houses are all two-story brick structures that share a similar block-composition, and are capped with tile roofs. This house features faux half-timbering in some of the gable ends, a tall chimney with chimney pots at the top of the flue, and a red tile roof. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
