The Fort de Flémalle is one of twelve forts built around Liège, Belgium, in the late 19th century. The overall Fortified Position of Liège was a constituent part of the country's National Redoubt. Fort de Flémalle was built between 1881 and 1884 according to the plans of General Henri Alexis Brialmont. Contrasting with the French forts built in the same era by Raymond Adolphe Séré de Rivières, the fort was built exclusively of unreinforced concrete, a new material, rather than masonry. The fort was heavily bombarded by German artillery in the Battle of Liège. Attacked in both World War I and World War II, the fort has been preserved as a museum.

The airport mainly focuses on air freight. At the end of 2021, freight traffic reached 1,412,498 tonnes (+26%). Liege Airport is now the 5th biggest cargo airport in Europe and the 22nd biggest in the world.

Flémalle (French pronunciation: ​[flemal]; Walloon: Flémåle) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Flémalle had a total population of 25,140. The total area is 36.68 km² which gives a population density of 685 inhabitants per km².

Chokier (Walloon: Tchôkire) is a village of Wallonia in the municipality of Flémalle, district of Flémalle-Haute, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. It is located on the left bank of the river Meuse. The village is dominated by the Château de Chokier, an 18th-century rebuild of the earlier medieval castle, standing on a cliff overlooking the Meuse valley. Chokier Castle belongs to the Florani family For centuries the castle was owned by the prominent Surlet de Chokier family, which included the Baron Surlet de Chokier who was Regent of Belgium in 1831 before the establishment of the independent monarchy after the Belgian Revolution. The strategic and defensive advantages of the cliff where the château now stands were recognised as early as the Palaeolithic period, from when traces of human habitation have been discovered.

The Phenix Works is a steel working factory located in Flémalle-Haute, Liège, Belgium. The business was established in 1905 by Paul Borgnet and became part of SA Phenix Work in 1911. The works specialised in coated steels, such as galvanised, tin plate etc. Acquired by Cockerill-Ougrée-Providence (1969) and later absorbed by its successor Cockerill-Sambre (1989), as of 2016 the works is part of ArcelorMittal Liège, the Belgian subsidiary of ArcelorMittal.

Grâce-Hollogne (French pronunciation: ​[ɡʁas ɔlɔɲ]; Walloon: Gråce-Hologne) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. The municipality is effectively a part of the greater Liège conurbation, separated from Liège city centre by the municipality of Saint-Nicolas. Included within its boundaries is Liège Airport. On 1 January 2006 Grâce-Hollogne had a total population of 21,753. The total area is 34.24 km2, which gives a population density of approximately 635 inhabitants per km2.

Hollogne-aux-Pierres (Walloon: Hologne-ås-Pires) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Grâce-Hollogne, located in the province of Liège, Belgium. It was a municipality of its own before its fusion with Grâce-Berleur on July 10, 1970. It is in this area that the police, on 30 July 1950, opened fire on the inhabitants of Grâce-Berleur, killing four people. This sad event is the tragic element which led to the end of the Royal Question.

It is preserved as a museum and may be visited by the public.

Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey (French: Abbaye du Val-Saint-Lambert) was a Cistercian abbey in the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. It is situated in Wallonia in the city of Seraing on the right bank of the Meuse, in Belgium, about 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) southwest of Liege. Founded in 1202, the abbey's monks were expelled during the French Revolution. In the 19th century, the building ruins were converted into the Val Saint Lambert crystal factory. The structure is considered to be an important example of Cistercian architecture.

The Decauville factory in Val-Saint-Lambert was a Belgian subsidiary of the French narrow-gauge railway manufacturer Decauville. It was founded in 1895 and taken over by the Berlin-based company O&K from 1911.

Engis (French pronunciation: ​[ɑ̃ʒi]; Walloon: Indji) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On 1 January 2006 Engis had a total population of 5,686. The total area is 27.74 km² which gives a population density of 205 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Clermont-sous-Huy, Engis and Hermalle-sous-Huy. In 1829, in this village, Philippe-Charles Schmerling discovered the first Neanderthal ever, Engis 2, the damaged skull of a young child. This was before the 1856 discovery of the Neanderthal type specimen in the Neander Valley. Its importance was not recognised until 1936.

The Schmerling Caves (also known as Grottes d'Engis, meaning Engis Caves) are a group of caves located in Wallonia on the right bank of the stream called the Awirs, near the village of Awirs in Flémalle, Belgium. The caves are notable for their past fossil finds, particularly of hominins. They were explored in 1829 by Philippe-Charles Schmerling, who discovered, in the lower cave, the remains of two individuals, one of which, now known as Engis 2, was a fossil of the first Neanderthal ever found; the other was a Neolithic homo sapiens. Also known as Trô Cwaheur or Trou Caheur, this lower cave has since collapsed. A third cave was destroyed because of work on the adjacent quarry, the Ancienne Carrière des Awirs. The caves have been classified on the list of Cultural Heritage of Wallonia sites since 1978, as well as Exceptional Cultural Heritage of Wallonia since 2013, because of the Neanderthal fossil.
