Fenerbahçe (Istanbul neighbourhood)

Fenerbahçe is the name of a neighbourhood in Kadıköy district, Istanbul, Turkey, located on the Asian side at the shore of the Sea of Marmara. The name means "lighthouse garden" in Turkish (from fener, meaning "lighthouse", and bahçe, meaning "garden"), deriving from an ancient lighthouse located at Fenerbahçe Cape (40.968801°N 29.032936°E / 40.968801; 29.032936 (Fenerbahçe cape and lighthouse)). The iconoclast Council of Hieria was a Christian council of 754 which viewed itself as ecumenical, but was later rejected by the Second Council of Nicaea (787) and by Catholic and Orthodox churches, since none of the five major patriarchs were represented in Hieria. The Council of Hieria was summoned by the Byzantine Emperor Constantine V in 754 in the palace of Hieria at Chalcedon. The council supported the emperor's iconoclast position in the Byzantine iconoclasm controversy, condemning the spiritual and liturgical use of iconography as heretical. Opponents of the council described it as the Mock Synod of Constantinople or the Headless Council because no patriarchs or representatives of the five great patriarchates were present: the see of Constantinople was vacant; Antioch, Jerusalem and Alexandria were under Islamic dominion; while Rome was not asked to participate. Its rulings were anathematized at the Lateran Council of 769 before being overturned almost entirely by the Second Council of Nicaea in 787, which upheld the orthodoxy of and endorsed the veneration of holy images.

Kalamış is a neighborhood on the bay of the same name in the district of Kadıköy on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, Turkey.It is located between Kurbağalıdere, Kızıltoprak, Feneryolu and Fenerbahçe. It has a large marina and park. There are also some nightclubs and restaurants. Galatasaray Sports Club's Galatasaray Kalamış Facilities is also located there. Kurbağalıdere flows into Kalamış Bay. Fenerbahçe Sports Club's Dereağzı Facilities are located at the point where Kurbağalıdere empties into the bay. Kalamış is famous for its lyrics by Behçet Kemal Çağlar and the composition by Münir Nurettin Selçuk. "Yok başka yerin lütfu ne yazdan, ne de kıştan; Bir tatlı huzur almaya geldik Kalamış'tan"

Feneryolu railway station (Turkish: Feneryolu istasyonu) is a station under construction on the Marmaray commuter rail line in Kadıköy, Istanbul. It will replace the 145 year old railway station, built by the Ottoman Anatolian Railway. The original station was opened on 22 September 1872 by the Ottoman Empire and later taken over by the Ottoman Anatolian Railway in 1880. The station was then rebuilt in 1969 to accommodate new commuter trains which served the station until 19 February 2013, when all train service was suspended. The old station (except for the historic station building) was demolished and a new platform is under construction. Feneryolu is expected to open on 10 March 2019, along with the rest of the Maramaray line.The station will have two tracks with an island platform and one express track on the south side for high-speed and intercity trains.

Fenerbahçe station (Turkish: Fenerbahçe istasyonu) was a railway station in the Fenerbahçe neighborhood of Kadıköy, Istanbul. The station was situated at the end of a 1.4 km (0.87 mi) branch line from Feneryolu. Fenerbahçe station was opened on 27 April 1873 by the Ottoman government, branching off the Haydarpaşa-Pendik railway at Feneryolu. Fenerbahçe, known as Fener Bahçesi at the time, was a popular resort for residents in Constantinople (Istanbul). In 1888 the station, along with the railway, was sold to the Ottoman Anatolian Railway which operated station until 1924, when it was absorbed by the Anatolian—Baghdad Railways. A small station house, built by an Austrian company, was constructed with a small platform serving one track. Since there was no siding, locomotives needed to push outbound trains back to Feneryolu. Due to its coastal location, the station played an important role during World War I. Injured soldiers, especially from the Gallipoli Front, would arrive by boat and transported by train. During the Occupation of Constantinople, the station was used as an armory for weapons.Fenerbahçe station was closed in 1928 and the station house was demolished in 1936, when the State Railways built a social facility in its place, which still stands today. The tracks remained for another 35 years until they were removed in 1971.

Kızıltoprak railway station was a station in Kadıköy, Istanbul. It consisted of two side platforms serving two tracks. The original station was built in 1872 by the Ottoman government as part of the railway from Istanbul to İzmit and taken over by the Ottoman Anatolian Railway in 1888. In 1949 the station was expanded by the Turkish State Railways to accommodate two tracks and 29 May 1969, electric commuter trains began serving the Kızıltoprak. The station was closed on 19 February 2013 when all commuter trains were suspended to make way for the new Marmaray commuter rail system. Along with Kanarya, Kızıltoprak station was closed down permanently in 2013 and the platforms were demolished shortly after.

Hieria (in Greek variously Ἱερεῖα, Ἱερία, Ἡρία), also known as Heraeum or Heraion (Ἡραῖον), modern Fenerbahçe, was a town of ancient Bithynia and a suburb of Byzantine-era Constantinople (modern Istanbul, Turkey). It is prominent in the city's history as the site of an imperial palace. The name derives from Heraion akron (Greek: Ἡραῖον ἄκρον, "Cape of Hera"), which was given in antiquity to a small promontory (modern Fener burnu) on the Asian shore of the Bosporus, opposite Chalcedon (modern Kadıköy). The Emperor Justinian I (r. 527–565) built a palace here, which included a harbour and a church dedicated to St. Mary. The palace, which survived at least until 1203, served as a summer residence for a number of Byzantine emperors, including Emperor Heraclius (r. 610–641) and Emperor Basil I (r. 867–886), who added a chapel dedicated to the Prophet Elijah. Due to its location on the Asian side of the Bosporus, the palace often served as a reception point for triumphal returns of the Byzantine emperors from campaigns in the East. The iconoclastic "Council of Hieria" took place in the palace in 754. Only a few traces of the original palace complex (the harbour breakwater, a cistern and funerary inscriptions) survive.Its site is located at Fenerbahçe in Asiatic Turkey.

Fenerbahçe Rowing is the men's and women's rowing section of Fenerbahçe S.K., a major sports club in Istanbul, Turkey. Fenerbahçe Rowers use the Dereağzı Facilities as homeground. Founded in 1914, both the men's and women's rowing teams are the most successful in Turkey, having won the Turkish Men's Rowing Championship a record 35 times and the Women's Rowing Championship a record 18 times, amongst others.

Galatasaray Kalamış Facilities is the training center of Galatasaray Sailing Team, Galatasaray Men's Water Polo Team and Galatasaray Women's Water Polo Team and a social complex with an indoor hall, a restaurant, a patisserie, olympic swimming pool and fitness center.
