Kumpula Campus

Dynamicum is the name of a building on the Kumpula Campus of the University of Helsinki that is shared by the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the Finnish Institute of Marine Research. Dynamicum is located in Kumpula, Helsinki. Construction on the building was completed in September 2005, at which point in time the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the Finnish Institute of Marine Research moved in. The President of Finland, Tarja Halonen, inaugurated the building in a ceremony on November 8, 2005. Approximately 550 people work in the building.

Arcada University of Applied Sciences (Swedish: Yrkeshögskolan Arcada) is a Swedish-speaking university of applied sciences (a polytechnic) in Helsinki, Finland. It is owned and maintained by the Arcada Foundation.

Kumpula (Swedish: Gumtäkt) is a verdant neighbourhood in Helsinki, bordered by Eastern Pasila to the west, Vallila to the south, Käpylä and Koskela to the north and Toukola and Arabianranta to the east. As of January 1, 2003, Kumpula had approximately 3,600 inhabitants. The name Gumteckt or Gumtäckt appears already in documents from the 15th century. The current Finnish name Kumpula was given in 1928. Kumpula was incorporated into the city of Helsinki in 1906. The oldest part of Kumpula, around the long street Limingantie, consists of wooden houses built in the 1920s and 1930s. Around the university campus and in the western part of Kumpula are newer apartment buildings built in and after the 1980s. HOAS has built student housing in the area. The area is also home to one of the four campuses of the University of Helsinki, the Kumpula Campus, where approximately 6,000 students study at the Faculty of Science. In addition, the Dynamicum building, shared by the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the Finnish Environment Institute, is located on the campus. The Kumpula Manor is an old manor house now housing the University's geological museum, and surrounded by a botanical garden. Nearby is one of Helsinki's numerous gardening allotments, the Kumpula Allotment Garden. Kumpula is also home to the Kumpula Outdoor Swimming Pool, which was built for the 1952 Summer Olympics.

Arabia is a shopping centre located in the Arabianranta district of Helsinki, Finland. From 2015 to 2019 it was owned by Citycon. In June 2019 Citycon sold the shopping centre to the Nordic building investor company NREP. The shopping centre was opened in 2002 in industrial buildings left empty by Kotisaari and Ingman.The shopping centre has about 30 businesses, including K-Supermarket, S-market, Tokmanni, Alko, JYSK, Faunatar and a couple of restaurants. The first bakery café of the Cinnabon chain in Finland was located in the shopping centre until it closed down in spring 2016. Nowadays the site of the bakery café hosts a Kotipizza restaurant, opened in December 2016. The supermarket chain Lidl opened a store at the shopping centre on 11 January 2018. Pilatesstudio Arabia moved to the shopping centre in January 2019. The Helsinki tram lines 6, 6T and 8 stop near the shopping centre, as do buses towards the city centre, northeastern Helsinki and Vantaa.

The Kumpula Outdoor Swimming Pool is an outdoor swimming pool located in Kumpula, Helsinki. The swimming pool was built as a practice pool for the 1952 Summer Olympics and it is Finland's third oldest outdoor swimming pool. In 2005, the swimming pool was restored to its original appearance while the saunas and dressing rooms were modernized at the same time. The pool is open from the end of May until the end of August. The pool is popular with locals and tourists alike: it was visited by some 130,000 people in the summer 2013.

St. Paul's Church (Finnish: Paavalinkirkko, Swedish: Paulus kyrka) is a Lutheran church located in the Vallila neighborhood of Helsinki, Finland. The red brick church, named after Paul the Apostle, was designed by Bertel Liljequist and it was completed in 1930. The church was officially dedicated in March 1931. The church hall has 800 seats. After its completion, the church was once even called the "most beautiful church in Helsinki". The church was somewhat damaged by the bombing of Helsinki during the Winter War, and traces can still be seen on one wall and on the pillars of the main door. The church's stained glass windows painted by the artist Antti Salmenlinna were also partially destroyed. The church was renovated between 2002 and 2003 according to the plans of the architectural firm Slotte & Schütz. During the repair, the exterior of the church was restored to its original appearance.The current choir organ of the church, made by organ builder Martti Porthan Oy in 2004, is of Italian style. It has 12 stops, one keyboard and an attached pedal. The previous organ was produced in 1956 by the Austrian company Rieger Orgelbau and was donated to the Lutheran Church of Saint Michael in St. Petersburg in 2012.

The Kumpula Allotment Garden, located at Kalervonkatu 1a in Kumpula and established in 1927, is the second oldest allotment garden in Helsinki, Finland. The garden has 268 allotments with an average size of 300 m2. This area is culturally and historically valuable. From May 1 to September 15, the garden is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The allotments themselves, however, are the private property of the garden's members. The garden area is run by Kumpulan Siirtolapuutarhayhdistys r.y (the Kumpula Allotment Garden Association), which leases allotments to its members. Leaseholders can transfer their lease to a third party. Only people registered as a resident of Helsinki can lease allotments. A leasehold fee is paid to the city of Helsinki and consumption, administration and membership fees are paid to the association annually by lessees. The maximum size allowed for allotment cottages is 26 m2. All construction must comply with guidelines stipulated by the city of Helsinki and the association. The association holds annual events for its members and for the general public. The most visible of these events is its traditional Midsummer celebration.

Toukola (Swedish: Majstad) is a neighbourhood of Helsinki, Finland, around 4 km north of the town centre, at the port of Vanhankaupunginlahti. Toukola is part of the administrative region of Vanhakaupunki. The eldest part of the town consists mostly of wooden villas and small houses. Next to the sea, in later years, the newer area of Arabianranta was built, with modern tower blocks.

Vallila (Swedish: Vallgård) is a neighbourhood in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Vallila is a central-northern neighbourhood, bordered by Pasila to the west and Alppiharju to the south. Like Kallio, Vallila is mostly residential and has a reputation of being a working-class neighbourhood. In the past two decades people from artistic professions have found the area. Vallila though still retains its roots from 1910s to 1980s by being one of the rare neighbourhoods which still has an industrial area and abundant amount of workshop businesses. Because of gentrification Vallila is nowadays considered a trendy area in Helsinki (like Kallio) among young adults and housing is expensive, particularly in Puu-Vallila. Several major companies, such as S Group, Telia Finland, OP Financial Group and Nordea, have their headquarters in Vallila. Vallila is famous for its many old wooden houses dating back to the 1900s–1920s, which are spread over many blocks. Many buildings by the main streets are fine examples of Nordic Classicism from the 1920s–1930s. It is located closest to the city center of all the wooden-house residential areas in Helsinki. This area is called Puu-Vallila (Wooden Vallila). Puu-Vallila was built 1910, while the rest of Vallila was built in the 1920s and 1930s. Before this Vallila was a villa area for wealthy people living in Helsinki centre. Perhaps the most famous scene in Vallila is the small flea market square featured in Aki Kaurismäki's film The Man Without a Past. Ville Valo, lead singer for the Finnish band HIM, was born in Vallila. Vallila is also the name of a basic city administrative district. It includes both Vallila and Hermanni neighbourhoods and has 12300 inhabitants (1.1.2010). Vallila itself has 7800 inhabitants.

The Helsinki Prison, also known as the Sörnäinen Prison (earlier known as Helsinki Central Prison) is a prison located in the Hermanninmäki district of Helsinki, Finland, opened in 1881. At the moment it is the only prison operating in Helsinki proper after the Katajanokka prison was converted to a hotel and its inmates transferred to a new prison in Vantaa, a suburban municipality.

Karjalatalo (in English: Karelia House) is a red brick building in the Käpylä neighbourhood of Helsinki, Finland. It is owned by the Karelian Association, who built it as a meeting place for the Finnish Karelians who were displaced during World War II and their descendants. Designed by architect Into Pyykkö, construction of the building began in 1972 and completed in 1974. The interior design by Maisa Laaksonen features large amounts of pine, as well as the colours red, black and green.The location of the building was heavily debated before construction began, with Lappeenranta a serious contender until the city of Helsinki donated a suitable plot of land for the building effort. The building effort received significant amounts of private donations. Approximately 200,000 Mk were obtained from municipalities around Finland, who were asked to donate one markka per Karelian evacuee living in the municipality in 1960.In addition to being used by the Karelian Association, the building is used Viipurin Lauluveikot as a practice facility, along with having an ecumenical chapel.

Arabianranta (Finnish: [ˈɑrɑbiɑnˌrɑntɑ]; Swedish: Arabiastranden; literally meaning the "shore of Arabia"), sometimes simply Arabia, is a residential part of Helsinki, Finland. It is bound by Vanhankaupunginlahti bay from east, and connects to neighboring boroughs of Vanhakaupunki in north, Hermanni in south and Toukola and Kumpula in west. It is part of the greater Toukola region.The City of Helsinki requires all developers in the Arabianranta area to use 1-2% of the building investments of individual sites for works of art. This rule has been followed since the launching of development in the area 2000. Therefore, works of arts are visible around the district. Artists, designers and craftsmen put their stamp on buildings, objects and a communal spirit that gives energy.The district is mainly divided into three hubs. The Hämeentie Factory District is the heart of the Arabia region where you can find an unbroken tradition of design. At the southern end of Arabia, there is the Toukolanranta (swe. Majstranden), which translates into English as May Beach. The present showcases of functional buildings were constructed in an area that was originally wasteland. Artist Johanna Hyrkäs has designed an art trail which combines the buildings and the art gardens. The district is easily accessible by bus and trams, it takes around 15 minutes to get to the city centre.
