Salkia is a neighbourhood of Howrah city in Howrah district, West Bengal, India and is administered by the Howrah Municipal Corporation. Salkia is under the jurisdiction of Golabari Police Station and Malipanchghara Police Station of Howrah City Police. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). It comes under Howrah Uttar (Vidhan Sabha constituency). It has existed since the 19th century at least. Salkia Vikram Vidyalaya is a Higher Secondary School, situated at 37/1 Bhairab Dutta Lane, Salkia, Howrah-711106, West Bengal, India. Salkia Vikram Vidyalaya was established on 5 January 1935. It provides education to all classes of people, from primary education to secondary, up to higher secondary level in science, commerce and arts streams. It has a branch school named Vikram Vidyalaya (Branch) situated near Tikiapara Railway Bridge. The main branch has two large buildings, with three floors in each building. A primary teachers training institute was also located in the school which has been shifted somewhere in Chatterjee Hat, Shibpur, Howrah.

Electric Loco Shed, Howrah is a motive power depot performing locomotive maintenance and repair facility for electric locomotives of the Indian Railways, located at Howrah of the Eastern Railway zone in West Bengal, India. It is one of the two electric locomotive sheds of the Eastern Railway, the others being at Asansol (ASN). As of 1 July 2020 there are 150 locomotives in the shed.

Howrah railway station (also known as Howrah Junction, or informally Howrah Station) is a railway station located in the city of Howrah, West Bengal, India. It is the largest and busiest railway complex in India as well as one of the busiest and largest train stations in the world. It is also the oldest surviving railway station complex in India. Howrah is one of six intercity train stations serving the Kolkata metropolitan area (including Howrah and its twin city of Kolkata), the others being Sealdah, Dankuni, Santragachi, Shalimar and Kolkata railway station. The first public train from the station was on 15 August 1854, on what is now the Howrah – Hooghly Main Line. At present, about 600 passenger trains pass through the station serving more than one million passengers on a daily basis. Utilising its 23 platforms, the station handles a total number of 252 Mail/Express trains and 500 suburban EMUs daily.; ten of the platforms are long enough to cater to trains with more than 24 coaches. Goods and parcel trains also originate and terminate here. The Howrah–Barddhaman main line is the busiest line that connects this station.

The Howrah Bridge is a balanced cantilever bridge over the Hooghly River in West Bengal. Commissioned in 1943, the bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the cities of Howrah and Kolkata (Calcutta). On 14 June 1965, it was renamed Rabindra Setu after the great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, who was the first Indian and Asian Nobel laureate. It is still popularly known as the Howrah Bridge. The bridge is one of four on the Hooghly River and is a famous symbol of Kolkata and West Bengal. The other bridges are the Vidyasagar Setu (popularly called the Second Hooghly Bridge), the Vivekananda Setu and the relatively new Nivedita Setu. It carries a daily traffic of approximately 100,000 vehicles and possibly more than 150,000 pedestrians, easily making it the busiest cantilever bridge in the world. The third-longest cantilever bridge at the time of its construction, the Howrah Bridge is currently the sixth-longest bridge of its type in the world.

Howrah Maidan Metro Station is a station of the Kolkata Metro Line 2 in Howrah Maidan, Howrah, India. The underground station is located near the Howrah Municipal Corporation Stadium and the Howrah Sarat Sadan. It is the terminus of Line 2 of the Kolkata Metro.
