Nordborg Castle

Nordborg (German: Norburg), is a town with a population of 5,759 (1 January 2023), which was the seat of the former Nordborg municipality (Danish, kommune) in Sønderborg Municipality, Region of Southern Denmark on the northwest half of the island of Als off the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. Within the town is Nordborg Castle, a historic castle whose premises are currently used as a boarding school. The town has been greatly influenced by the presence of Danfoss, a global producer of components for refrigeration and airconditioning, heating and motion control applications, headquartered in the town and founded in 1933.

Universe (formerly Danfoss Universe) is a Danish amusement and science park on the island of Als southeast of Jutland. The park's vision is to create amazement around natural science, technology and entrepreneurship. Visitors learn about science through activities, experiences, and acquire knowledge about the world in which it occurs. Universe is noticeably different from other Danish amusement parks in the fact that learning is the linchpin for all the rides, experiences and amusements. The park motto is "The attraction park, where fun is a science". In 2017 new attractions are a number of virtual reality experiences, SkyTrail climbing tower, electric cars, 5D simulator, astronomy dome and a Chinese garden.A new feature in 2014 is the outdoor Pixelineland, where you can meet the popular Danish children's games character Pixeline. Here you explore the city, Pixelineland (En:Country of Pixeline)), which offers interactive games with Pixeline's friends, as well as a large playground. Also new in 2014 is the park's Science Circus, where you can experience a good mix of fire, explosions and liquid nitrogen. In addition you can ride Segways, lift a car using you hands, test yourself in the many experiments that are found in Explorama, dig excavations, experience the wild forces of nature in the Blue Cube and lots more. Besides the park, there is also a museum that shows how Danfoss founder Mads Clausen lived and invented Danfoss. Charlotte Sahl-Madsen who went on to be the Danish Minister of Science, Technology and Development in 2010 was previously head of the theme park. She worked with the developmental psychologist Howard Gardner to build his theory of Multiple Intelligences into the Explorama at the park.The initial opening of the park on May 5, 2005 was attended by Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.

Sandbjerg is a former estate and manor house 5 km (3.1 mi) north of Sønderborg in the southeast of Jutland, Denmark. The estate dates from 1571, but today's house was built in 1788. Since 1959, the estate has been used by Aarhus University for teaching and research. Today it is the university's conference centre.

The Nydam Mose, also known as Nydam Bog, is an archaeological site located at Øster Sottrup, a town located in Sundeved, eight kilometres from Sønderborg, Denmark.

The Alssund is the narrow strait between Als island and the mainland of Jutland, in Denmark.

Sundeved (German: Sundewitt) is a peninsula on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. It lies between Åbenrå Fjord and Als Fjord to the north, Alssund to the east and Flensborg Fjord to the south. The westernmost part of the city of Sønderborg is located on the peninsula, while most of the city lies on the neighboring island of Als.

Guderup is a town located on the island of Als in south Denmark, in Sønderborg Municipality.

The Alssund Bridge (Danish: Alssundbroen) is a 662-metre-long (2,172 ft) girder bridge that carries Highway 8 across the Alssund north of Sønderborg, Denmark. Constructed between 1978 and 1981, it was officially opened on 19 October 1981 by Queen Ingrid.

Sønderborg Municipality (Danish: Sønderborg Kommune, German: Kommune Sonderburg), is a kommune in the Region of Southern Denmark partially on the Jutland peninsula and partially on the island of Als in south Denmark, at the border with Germany. The municipality covers an area of 495.86 km2 (191.45 sq mi), and has a population of 74,380 (as of 2023). Its mayor as of 1 January 2014 is Erik Lauritzen, a member of the Social Democratic party.

German submarine U-37 was a Type IXA U-boat of the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) during World War II. The submarine was laid down on 15 March 1937 at the DeSchiMAG AG Weser yard in Bremen, launched on 14 May 1938, and commissioned on 4 August 1938 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Heinrich Schuch as part of the 6th U-boat Flotilla.Between August 1939 and March 1941, U-37 conducted eleven combat patrols, sinking 53 merchant ships, for a total of 200,063 gross register tons (GRT); and two warships, the British Hastings-class sloop HMS Penzance, and the French submarine Sfax (Q182). U-37 was then withdrawn from front-line service and assigned to training units until the end of the war. On 8 May 1945 the U-boat was scuttled in Sonderburg Bay, off Flensburg. U-37 was the sixth most successful U-boat in World War II.

Dybbøl is a small town with a population of 2,356 (1 January 2023) in the southeastern corner of South Jutland, Denmark. It is located around 6 km (3.7 mi) west of Sønderborg. It is mainly known for being the site of a famous last stand battle in 1864. During the Second Schleswig War in 1864, the Danish Army withdrew from the traditional fortified defence line, the Dannevirke (after waters and marshes which supported its flanks froze solid in a hard winter), and marched for Dybbøl to find a more defensible position. Although much artillery was abandoned and the evacuation was executed through a snow-laden north gale in winter, the army arrived almost intact. It entrenched itself at the Dybbøl trenches, which became the scene of the siege and subsequent Battle of Dybbøl (7 April – 18 April 1864). This battle resulted in a Prussian-Austrian victory over Denmark. In the following peace settlement, Denmark surrendered Schleswig. Following World War I, Denmark recovered the northern part of Schleswig as a result of the Schleswig Plebiscites as described in the Treaty of Versailles. The Dybbøl Mill is considered a Danish national symbol.

Broager Sparekasse Skansen is a handball arena in Sønderborg, in Sønderjylland, which is primarily used for SønderjyskE handball home matches. The arena has a fixed stand with 1000 seats, as well as a long side stand that can be pulled out during handball matches, also with 1000 seats, so the arena has a total capacity of 2000 seats. The arena was built in 2012 in order to replace both Dybbølhallhallene and Humlehøjhallen arenas where they previously played their home matches. The arena is named after Broager Sparekasse which is a local bank that has financed a large part of the arena expenses.
