Ulyanovsk State Technical University (Russian: Ульяновский государственный технический университет, abbreviated as UlSTU) is a technical higher education and research institution in Ulyanovsk. Founded in 1957 as Ulyanovsk Polytech University, the university is located in the Volga River region. Today Ulyanovsk State Technical University has over 12,000 students in different educational programs at 12 faculties and 48 departments; more than 500 tutors, 42 Ph.D professors and 250 PhD associate professors. The university maintains contacts with more than 60 state, public and educational organizations of many countries: universities, research centers, foundations. UlSTU cooperates with such educational and scientific centers as Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Germany; Durham University, Great Britain; University of Göttingen, Germany. Sporting facilities, a calendar of social events and a reputation for teaching makes UlSTU a place to study. Students from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Germany, China, Vietnam, Turkey, Ghana, Cameroon, and Nigeria study at the university. Three institutes, including: International Institute, Institute of Aviation Technologies and Management, Institute of Distance and Additional Education; Twelve faculties, including: pre-university training faculty, faculty of humanities, extramural education faculty, engineering and economics faculty, engineering faculty, mechanical engineering faculty, radio engineering faculty, aircraft construction faculty, civil engineering faculty, faculty of information systems and technologies, faculty of high professional education, power engineering faculty; One branch, colleges, academies, educational and research centers, and other departments.

Ilya Ulyanov State Pedagogical University (Russian: Ульяновский государственный педагогический университет имени И.Н.Ульянова) is a major higher education and research institution in Ulyanovsk. It was established in 1932.

Ulyanovsk State Agricultural University (Russian: Ульяновский государственный аграрный университет имени П. А. Столыпина) is a higher education and research institution in Ulyanovsk. It was established in 1943.

The Ulyanovsk Civil Aviation Institute (Russian: Ульяновский институт гражданской авиации) is a state educational institution of higher professional education in Ulyanovsk, Russia. The right for educational activity in the School is authorised by license №24Г-0299 issued by the Russian Federation Ministry of general and professional education on 1 April 1999 and certificate №25-0790 of state approval granted by the Russian Federation Ministry of Education on 7 December 1999. The School owns Certificate 005 of Federal Aviation Authority of Russia dated by 20 February 2002.

Trud Stadium is a bandy arena in Ulyanovsk, Russia. It is the home arena of bandy club Volga-SDYuSShOR, which is playing in the second-tier Russian Bandy Supreme League. With a higher spectator capacity than the more modern Volga-Sport-Arena in the same city, the semi-final Russia participated in and the final of the 2016 Bandy World Championship were played at Trud. Trud holds 15,000 seated spectators. The total area of the stadium is 40,711 m2 with an ice of 8,600 m2 or 100x65 m playing field. During the summer, the arena is used by an association football team FC Volga Ulyanovsk.

Simbirsk Governorate (Russian: Симбирская губерния, romanized: Simbirskaya guberniya) was an administrative-territorial unit (guberniya) of the Russian Empire and the Russian SFSR, which existed from 1796 to 1928. Its administrative center was in the city of Simbirsk, renamed Ulyanovsk in 1924 (likewise, Simbirsk Governorate was named Ulyanovsk Governorate).

Ulyanovsk, known until 1924 as Simbirsk, is a city and the administrative center of Ulyanovsk Oblast, Russia, located on the Volga River 705 kilometers (438 mi) east of Moscow. Ulyanovsk has been the only Russian UNESCO City of Literature since 2015. The city was the birthplace of Vladimir Lenin (born Ulyanov), for whom it was renamed after his death in 1924; and of Alexander Kerensky, the leader of the Russian Provisional Government which Lenin overthrew during the October Revolution of 1917. It is also famous for its writers such as Ivan Goncharov, Nikolay Yazykov and Nikolay Karamzin, and for painters such as Arkady Plastov and Nikas Safronov.

Ulyanovsk State University (Russian: Ульяновский государственный университет, romanized: Ulyanovskiy gosudarstvennyy universitet) (USU) is a public, research university, located in Ulyanovsk, Russia -- the birthplace of Vladimir Lenin. The city of Ulyanovsk (formerly Simbirsk, founded in 1648) is situated on the Volga River, about 710 kilometres (440 mi) east of Moscow and has a population of 700,000. The university enrolls some 16,000 students in six colleges offering 68 majors and claims considerable international ties. USU was one of the first among Russian universities to join the Bologna process to reform its Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's degrees. USU was established as a part of Moscow State University in Ulyanovsk Oblast, based on the traditions of classical education, by a resolution of Government of the Soviet Union in 1988. It was formerly Simbirsk People's University, established in 1648. In 1996, the Ulyanovsk affiliate of MSU was reorganized into Ulyanovsk State University. At present, Ulyanovsk State University comprises six institutes, 7 independent faculties, 2 affiliates, 6 learning centres, and many international study centers. The university enrolls about 16,000 students, among them almost 200 foreign citizens from Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. Currently, the university employs 1,254 faculty members, including 138 Doctorate and 623 Candidate of Science degree holders. Ulyanovsk State University offers a range of study options: full and part-time, external, further and distance education programs on undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. A student may choose from 77 majors, 76 post-graduate, 37 medical internship and medical residency programs. In addition, the University provides an opportunity to receive dual degrees in Law and Business. The Ulyanovsk State University Business School also offers MBA degree with focus on international business and finance.

JSC Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant or UMP for short (translit. Ulyanovsk Mekhanicheskiy Zavod, UMZ) is a Soviet/Russian military enterprise, now part of Almaz-Antey holding. Founded on January 1, 1966, by the Decree of Soviet government. Located in the city of Ulyanovsk, Russia next to UAZ.

Volga-Sport-Arena is a sports venue in Ulyanovsk, Russia. It is the home of Volga. At the 2016 Bandy World Championship it hosted most of the matches. Volga-Sport-Arena holds 5,000 seated spectators. The total area of the stadium is 23,000 m2 with an ice of 6,500 m2 or 100x60 m playing field. The decision to build it was taken in 2012 [1] and it opened in 2014. There is also a local bandy museum at the premises. At the time of the 2016 World Championship held here, plans were announced by Ulyanovsk Oblast Governor Sergey Morozov to make this a national museum for Russian bandy.

CJSC Aviastar-SP (Russian: «Авиастар-СП») is a Russian aircraft factory based in Ulyanovsk and founded in 1976. It is a closed shares joint stock company. It replaced the Soviet Ulyanovsk Aviation Industrial Complex and manufactures the cargo aircraft An-124 Ruslan, Il-76 and the whole Tu-204 family (except Tu-214).

Ulyanovsk Baratayevka Airport (also Ulyanovsk Southwest Airport and Ul'yanovsk Airport) (IATA: ULV, ICAO: UWLL) is an airport in Russia located 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) southwest of Ulyanovsk. It generally operates as a civilian/transport base. During April 2013, a terminal remodel was completed to accommodate a steady increase in passenger traffic to the area, resulting from increased corporate investment in the Ulyanovsk area. Ulyanovsk Aircraft Museum is located near the airport, exposition includes the Tupolev Tu-144 supersonic aircraft (reg. no. SSSR-77110).
