The Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks (also known collectively as Irvine Ranch Open Space) are a collection of protected areas in Orange County, California in and around Irvine. They encompass almost 50,000 acres (20,000 ha) of land which was once a part of the Irvine Ranch owned by the Irvine Company. Almost 40,000 acres (16,000 ha) of the landmarks were designated a National Natural Landmark in 2006 and a California Natural Landmark in 2008.Irvine Ranch contains a remarkably complete stratigraphic succession ranging in age from late Cretaceous (80 million years ago) to the present. The primary biological features at the site include coastal sage scrub and chaparral communities, including rare Tecate cypress woodlands.

Crean Lutheran High School is a private Lutheran high school in Irvine, California. The school was founded in 2007 as Lutheran South High School and had its initial campus at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church in the Woodbridge neighborhood of Irvine. In 2010, Crean Lutheran opened its own campus in southeastern Irvine near the Woodbury neighborhood. The school was renamed after John and Donna Crean, local philanthropists who donated US$10,000,000 to the school in its first year.Crean Lutheran is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges as well as the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation. The school self-reports that its students test 23% higher than the national average on standardized testing.

California's 45th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California. Katie Porter, a Democrat, has represented the district since January 2019. She is the first Democrat to do so. The district is based in Orange County and includes all of Irvine, Tustin, North Tustin, Villa Park, Laguna Hills, Lake Forest, and Rancho Santa Margarita, as well as parts of Anaheim, Orange, Laguna Woods, Mission Viejo, and Trabuco Canyon.

The Silverado Fire was a wildfire that burned in October and November 2020 in southern Orange County, California northeast of Irvine. The fire started on October 26 around 6:47 AM near Orange County Route S-18 (Santiago Canyon Road) and Silverado Canyon Road, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds gusting up to 80 miles per hour (130 km/h) and low humidity. Orange County Fire Authority Chief Brian Fennessy stated, "The winds were extraordinary even by Santa Ana standards. Fire spread is exceeding more than anything I've seen in my 44 years." The fire initially moved south from Loma Ridge toward the Orchard Hills, Northwood and Portola Springs communities of Irvine before moving southeast through Limestone Canyon and toward the communities of Foothill Ranch and Lake Forest. The fire burned in a path similar to that taken by the 2007 Santiago Fire, mostly through terrain that had not seen significant burning in the 13 years since that fire. 100% containment was announced on November 7, 2020. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Southern California Edison officials stated in a letter to the California Public Utilities Commission that they suspect a "lashing wire" in one of their telecommunication lines may have caused the fire.

Santiago Canyon is a canyon and unincorporated community in Orange County, California. According to the 2000 census, Santiago Canyon has several hundred residents living within its borders. Trabuco Canyon, Silverado Canyon, Modjeska Canyon and Williams Canyon are tributaries of Santiago Canyon. Santiago Creek flows northwest from the canyon, then west into the Santa Ana River. Neighborhoods in Santiago Canyon include Santiago Canyon Estates and Falcon View Estates. The landmark Cook's Corner motorcycle restaurant is also located within Santiago Canyon. Portola High School (PHS) is one of five public high schools in the Irvine Unified School District and is located in Irvine, California. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in October 2014 and the new $300 million school opened in Fall 2016. The campus hosts state-of-the-art facilities and is situated on 42 acres of land and can accommodate approximately 2,600 students. The school mascot is Buster the Bulldog.

The Santiago Fire was a wildfire located near Santiago Canyon in Orange County, California, U.S., and one of thirty California wildfires of October 2007. The fire was intentionally started.

Foothill Ranch is a master planned community in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 10,899 at the 2000 census. Foothill Ranch was incorporated into the city of Lake Forest, California, in 2000. Prior to that, it was a census-designated place. Foothill Ranch is notable for companies such as Oakley, Inc., Nike, Kaiser Aluminum, Kawasaki, Hampton Products/Brinks, TAE Technologies, Viking Technology, Image Options and ProBoards. It is also the home of Saddleback Church.

Woodbury is a neighborhood of Irvine, California, located from Irvine Boulevard to Trabuco Road, between Jeffrey Road and Sand Canyon Avenue. Despite the similar name, Woodbury and Woodbury East are separate neighborhoods and maintain separate HOAs and amenities. For non-Woodbury residents, Woodbury has the Woodbury Community Park, a public access park. Within that park are two baseball diamonds, two basketball courts, a soccer field, a community center building, and a 3,000 sq ft (280 m2) Tot-Lot. Woodbury Community Park is part of The Commons. The elementary school located within The Commons is Woodbury Elementary School. All residents of Woodbury and Woodbury East are served by Woodbury Elementary School. Parks feature swimming pools, tot-lots, and basketball courts, and they are scattered throughout the community. Woodbury also has a shopping center attached to the community, Woodbury Town Center. It features a Ralphs supermarket, Trader Joe's, Home Depot, HomeGoods, Michaels and Walgreens Pharmacy. It also has a variety of eateries, such as Starbucks, Chipotle, Subway, Carl's Jr., Chick-fil-A, Panera Bread, Niko Niko Sushi and The Counter. In addition, there is a Chevron gas station, LA Fitness, AT&T Mobility, Cox Communications Store, Orange County's Credit Union, Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, Elite Fitness Tae Kwon Do, and Great Foundations Montessori. For the Woodbury Master Association, the dues are currently $120 per month.

Northwood High School is a public high school located in the northernmost part of Irvine, CA, United States. It opened in 1999, and its first graduating class graduated in 2002. In 2016, Northwood was ranked 25 nationally in Newsweeks list of top public high schools.

The Great Park is a public park located in Irvine, California, with a focus on sports, agriculture, and the arts. It is a non-aviation reuse of the decommissioned Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro. The Orange County park will comprise 28.8% of the total area that once made up the air base. The project was approved by the voters of Orange County in 2002 at $1.1 billion.

Carbondale, in Orange County, California, is a historical coal mining town in Santiago Canyon, where Santiago Creek had its confluence with Silverado Creek in Silverado, California. It had a post office from May 11, 1881, to January 29, 1884, when it was closed and mail sent to the Santa Ana post office.Coal was discovered near Santiago Creek in 1878. A coal mine was established there, called the Santa Clara. In 1881, the Southern Pacific took over the Santa Clara Coal Mine, and a mining camp, Carbondale, with a post office was established on the flat near the creek. Besides the post office, it had a hotel, saloons, a store, and shacks for the miners. Carbondale became the post office for Silverado after its post office was closed on January 22, 1883. When the coal was depleted, the coal mine was closed down in 1884. Carbondale's post office closed, and its buildings and equipment were removed, leaving few other remains.
