San Vicente Creek (San Diego County)

Mason Valley is a valley in San Diego County, California. Mason Valley was named after a settler, James E. Mason who established a ranch in the valley in the later 19th century. The mouth of the valley is at an elevation of 1,995 feet / 608 meters, at the point where the valley narrows into a canyon where the Vallecito Wash continues as Vallecito Creek and passes between the Sawtooth Range and the Vallecito Mountains. The head of Mason Valley is at an elevation of 2550 feet at 33°01′05″N 116°28′53″W at the junction of Oriflamme Canyon and Rodriguez Canyon where Vallecito Wash has its source.

Barona Resort and Casino is an Indian casino on the Barona Indian Reservation located in Lakeside, in San Diego County in California. It is owned and operated by the Barona Group of Capitan Grande Band of Mission Indians.

Rancho Cañada de San Vicente y Mesa del Padre Barona was a 13,316-acre (53.89 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County, California given in 1846 by Governor Pío Pico to Juan Bautista Lopez. The grant was located in the San Vicente and Padre Barona Valleys, which lie south of Ramona. The area served as grazing lands for the Mission San Diego. Father José Barona served at the Mission San Diego from 1798 to 1810, before moving to the Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary is a nature preserve owned and operated by the San Diego Audubon Society (SDAS). Silverwood was set up in 1965 to preserve coastal chaparral and riparian woodland habitats. It is also a nature education facility for San Diego area schoolchildren and adults, and functions as part of a wildlife migration corridor.

The San Vicente Dam is a concrete gravity dam on San Vicente Creek near Lakeside and 25 km (15.5 mi) northeast of San Diego, California. The dam was built between 1941 and 1943 and created San Vicente Reservoir for the purpose of municipal water storage, flood control and recreation. Although the reservoir is fed by run-off, its main source is the First San Diego Aqueduct. In June 2009, construction to raise the height of the dam by 117 ft (36 m), in order to more than double its reservoir size, commenced. It is the largest dam raise in the United States and largest roller-compacted concrete dam raise in the world. The dam raise project was originally set for the end of 2012, but was completed in early 2014. Efforts to replace the water supply pipelines and prepare the reservoir for the public will be underway until 2015–2017.

San Vicente Reservoir is a reservoir created by the San Vicente Dam in San Diego County, California. It is located in the Cuyamaca Mountains, approximately 4.3 miles (6.9 km) north of Lakeside off California State Route 67.

Foster was a settlement in east San Diego County, California. It was located approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north of Lakeside, near the present-day location of the San Vicente Dam. It was the terminus of the San Diego, Cuyamaca, and Eastern Railroad from 1889, when the railroad reached the town, until 1916, when parts of the railway between Lakeside and Foster were damaged by floods. The line was never rebuilt and the town declined thereafter. There were 7 buildings in Foster in 1891–93, according to the 1893 USGS survey map. A road connecting Lakeside to Ramona and Julian ran through Foster until 1942, when the section just north of Foster was submerged to create San Vicente Reservoir and the road was rerouted further west, bypassing the settlement. The town was named after local rancher Joseph Foster.

The Barona Group of Capitan Grande Band of Mission Indians of the Barona Reservation is a federally recognized tribe of Kumeyaay Indians, who are sometimes known as Mission Indians.

KCBQ (1170 AM "The Answer") is a commercial radio station in San Diego, California. It is owned by Salem Media Group and airs a conservative talk radio format. Studios and offices are on Towne Center Drive in San Diego's University City area. The transmitter is off Moreno Avenue in Lakeside, California. By day, KCBQ operates at 50,000 watts, the maximum power for American AM stations. Because KCBQ is not a clear-channel station, it must reduce its power at night to 2900 watts to avoid interfering with Class A stations KTSB in Tulsa, Oklahoma and WWVA in Wheeling, West Virginia, both clear-channel stations. KCBQ uses a directional antenna at all times. KCBQ used a Top 40 format in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, later airing country music and oldies formats in the 1980s and 1990s, before switching to talk.

Ramona High School (RHS) is located in Ramona, California. Ramona High is a member of the Ramona City Unified School District and serves the communities of Ramona, San Diego Country Estates, and citizens of the surrounding rural area as well as small numbers of people from Santa Ysabel and Julian.
