McPherson Square is a square in downtown Washington, D.C. It is bound by K Street Northwest to the north, Vermont Avenue NW on the East, I Street NW on the south, and 15th Street NW on the West; it is one block northeast of Lafayette Park. It is the sister square of Farragut Square two blocks west.and is served by the McPherson Square station of the Washington Metro.

The United Mine Workers of America Building is an historic building at 900 Fifteenth St. NW in the Downtown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Built in 1912 as the home of the University Club, a private social club, it was from 1936 to 1999 as the international headquarters of the United Mine Workers. Under the leadership of John L. Lewis, the union played a major role in improving working conditions and pay for a large number of mine workers, with Lewis eventually founding the Congress of Industrial Organizations to improve conditions for other types of laborers. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2005. The upper floors of the building have been converted to residences.

The Structural Adjustment Participatory Review International Network (SAPRIN), based in Washington, D.C., United States and launched by the World Bank and its former president, James Wolfensohn in 1997, is a coalition of civil society organizations, their governments and the World Bank researching about structural adjustment programs and exploring new policies implemented by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in developing countries. The last SAPRI report was published in 2004.

The Davidson Building, currently designated as Three McPherson Square, is a historic office building in Washington, D.C., United States at 927 15th Street Northwest, adjacent to McPherson Square, built in 1917. At twelve stories and 130 ft (40 m) tall, it was the tallest building in the city from its completion until 1926. Located within the Financial Historic District, the building was added to the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites on July 28, 2016 and the National Register of Historic Places on October 4. The building has also been referred to as the Phillips Building between 1923 and 1929 and the Carry Building from 1929 to 1965.

1430 K Street is a high-rise building located in the United States capital of Washington, D.C. The building was constructed in 2005 and its construction was completed in 2006. On its completion, the building rose to 150 feet (46 m), featuring 12 floors. The building serves as an office and parking garage.This was the first office building in the Washington downtown to be fully sold as a condominium. Non-profit associations and lobbying groups like the American Educational Research Association are buying floors of the building to replace their previous brownstone town houses which are not now suitable to be modern offices.The architect of the building was Alkridge, who designed the post modern design of the building. Alkridge was selected to design the building by NEST and Totah Venture, marketing organizations. Before 1430 K Street was built, two buildings were demolished in order for the construction of this building to take place.

The Southern Railway Building is a historic office building located in Washington, D.C. It was built in 1928–1929 by local architect Waddy Butler Wood as the executive headquarters for the Southern Railway. The eleven-story building was designed in the Stripped Classical style with early Art Deco elements, and was constructed with a frame of steel and concrete fronted with limestone and set on a granite base. The site functioned as the railway's headquarters until 1982, when the company merged with the Roanoke, Virginia-based Norfolk and Western Railway. The newly-formed Norfolk Southern Railway moved its headquarters to Norfolk, Virginia, and the Southern Railway Building became privately owned with multiple tenants. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

The Wire Building is an historic structure located at 1000 Vermont Ave NW at the intersection of Vermont and K Streets, in Downtown Washington, D.C. It was listed on the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites in 2012 and on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. The building was designed by architect Alvin L. Aubinoe from the architectural firm of Aubinoe and Edwards and built between 1949–1950. It is a twelve-story structure, rising to a height of 155.6 feet (47 m).

McPherson Square is a side-platformed Washington Metro station in Downtown Washington, D.C., United States. The station is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Providing service for the Blue, Silver, and Orange Lines, the station is located between McPherson Square and Franklin Square, with two entrances on I Street at Vermont Avenue and 14th Street NW. This is the main station to access the White House, and the Vermont Avenue exit is directly underneath the Department of Veterans Affairs building.

The Denrike Building is a historic office building in Washington, D.C., United States at 1010 Vermont Avenue Northwest near McPherson Square. Built in 1926 as an office building, it has since had retail space added to its ground level floor and its offices are planned to converted into apartments. The building was added to the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites on June 23, 2016 and the National Register of Historic Places on June 30 and is located within the city's Financial Historic District.

The VA also provides burial and memorial benefits to eligible veterans and family members at 135 national cemeteries. While veterans' benefits have been provided by the federal government since the American Revolutionary War, a veteran-specific federal agency was not established until 1930, as the Veterans Administration. In 1982, its mission was extended to a fourth mission to provide care to non-veterans and civilians in case of national emergencies. In 1989, the Veterans Administration became a cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs. The agency is led by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, who, being a cabinet member, is appointed by the President. As of June 2020, the VA employs 412,892 people at hundreds of Veterans Affairs medical facilities, clinics, benefits offices, and cemeteries. In Fiscal Year 2016 net program costs for the department were $273 billion, which includes the VBA Actuarial Cost of $106.5 billion for compensation benefits. The long-term "actuarial accrued liability" (total estimated future payments for veterans and their family members) is $2.491 trillion for compensation benefits; $59.6 billion for education benefits; and $4.6 billion for burial benefits.

The deputy secretary is the second-highest-ranking officer in the Department and succeeds the secretary of veterans affairs in the event of his resignation, death, or otherwise inability to fulfill his duties.The deputy secretary of veterans affairs is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The position was created with the creation of the Department of Veterans Affairs in October 1988.Donald Remy is the current deputy secretary of veterans affairs since July 19, 2021.
