Mississippi Department of Archives and History

The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum is a museum in Jackson, Mississippi. Its mission is to document, exhibit the history of, and educate the public about the American Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. state of Mississippi between 1945 and 1970. The museum secured $20 million in funding from the Mississippi Legislature in April 2011 after Governor Haley Barbour testified in favor of its funding. Ground was broken in 2013, and the museum opened on December 9, 2017. The museum is administered by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. According to Mississippi state senator John Horhn, it is the first state-sponsored civil rights museum in the United States.

The Museum of Mississippi History is a museum in Jackson, Mississippi. The museum opened December 9, 2017, in conjunction with the adjacent Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in celebration of Mississippi's bicentennial. The theme of the history museum is "One Mississippi, Many Stories". Both museums are administered by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH).

Jackson/Hinds Library System (JHLS) is the public library system of Jackson and Hinds County in Mississippi.

The Old Mississippi State Capitol, also known as Old Capitol Museum or Old State Capitol, served as the Mississippi statehouse from 1839 until 1903. The old state capitol was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. In 1986, the structure was designated a Mississippi Landmark and became a National Historic Landmark in 1990.

The Joseph Henry Morris House is a historic mansion in Jackson, Mississippi, U.S.. It was built in 1891-1893 for Joseph Henry Morris, a veteran of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War who later worked as an "agent" for the Illinois Central Railroad and founded an ice company. The Morris family had owned the land for generations. It was designed in the Classical Revival architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since August 11, 1983.

The 'Sims House at 513 N. State St. in Jackson, Mississippi is significant as one of the last surviving Queen Anne style houses on the state capitol's "Grand Boulevard". Following construction of the state's Beaux-Arts style capitol building (designed by Theodore Link) in 1903, North State Street developed as a tree-lined avenue of homes of state leaders. Notable Mississippi native Dr. Walter Scott Sims, who was the state's first eye, ear, nose and throat specialist and who was a pioneer in eye cataract surgery, bought the property from Joseph Henry Morris in 1905. The house was built in c. 1905 for Sims.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. When listed, it was under restoration and was owned by descendants of Joseph Henry Morris.Other notable homes on the street listed on, or eligible for, the National Register have included: Merrill-Maley House (c.1907), 739 N. State St., Colonial Revival, (designed by Theodore Link?) Will Watkins House (c.1908), 1423 N. State St., Colonial Revival, (designed by Theodore Link?) Smith-Crowder-Capers House (c.1894), Queen Anne Millsaps-Buie House (c.1888), 628 N. State St., Queen Anne, but remodeled c.1928 with a monumental Greek Revival portico.

The Spengler–Thomas Building is a historic 2-story brick commercial building in Jackson, Mississippi. It was built in 1909 and was home to Bowers Brothers Dry Goods in 1910, then Maloney Brothers Dry Goods and Grocery which was joined by S.N. Thomas Department Store on one side of the building. Southern Business College and a Masonic Lodge were located upstairs by 1917. S.N. Thomas's Sons Company took over the building except for the lodge and occupied it until the 1990s. In 2000 the building was bought and restored in a project completed in 2002. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 9, 2003. It is located at 129 South President Street.

The Central Fire Station in Jackson, Mississippi, located on S. President St., was built in 1904. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.It is a three-story stuccoed brick building with a parapet, which is 60 by 80 feet (18 m × 24 m) in plan. It was designed by architect P.H. Weathers.

The Millsaps-Buie House is a historic mansion in Jackson, Mississippi, U.S.. It was built for Major Reuben Webster Millsaps, a veteran of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War who became a wealthy cotton broker and banker after the war. It was inherited by his nephew, Webster Millsaps Buie, in 1916. The house was designed in the Queen Anne architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since June 19, 1973.

Jackson City Hall, located in Jackson, Mississippi, is the seat of municipal government.

The Mississippi Governor's Mansion is the official residence of the governor of Mississippi which is currently Tate Reeves. It is located in downtown Jackson, Mississippi, south of the Mississippi State Capitol, at the south end of Smith Park. Completed in 1841 to a design by state architect William Nichols, it is the second-oldest governor's residence in active use in the nation, and a prominent example of Greek Revival architecture. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975, and was declared a Mississippi Landmark in 1985.
