Woodstock, New York

Woodstock is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 2,521 according to the 2020 census. The community of Woodstock is in the eastern part of the Town of Woodstock and is northwest of Kingston. It is located along NY 212 near its junction with NY 375. Although the name of the community and the town lent its name to the Woodstock Festival, that event did not take place in Woodstock.

The Judge Jonathan Hasbrouck House, also known as the Sherman-Elwyn-Jonathan Hasbrouck House, is a historic home located at Woodstock, Ulster County, New York. It was built circa 1800, and is a two-story, three bay by four bay, Federal style, bluestone dwelling constructed with load-bearing walls upon a raised basement. It has a gable roof and front porch that was added around 1900. Adjoining the eastern elevation of the house is a wooden frame addition also on a bluestone foundation that was built about 1875. The addition exhibits modern construction techniques since its renovation after a fire that had damaged both sections of the house. The original roof pitch of the addition has since been reconfigured.The main house was built on a 500-acre parcel for Jonathan Hasbrouck (1763-1846), a large landowner and Ulster County judge.The house currently stands on an approximate one-acre parcel with a contributing timber-frame shed on the west side. Included within the NRHP nomination boundary of the site is a historically relevant barn complex (built circa 1875) that is located on the abutting property to the east, along with a non-contributing small-frame dwelling.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

The Byrdcliffe Colony, also called the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony or Byrdcliffe Historic District, was founded in 1902 near Woodstock, New York by Jane Byrd McCall and Ralph Radcliffe Whitehead and colleagues, Bolton Brown (artist) and Hervey White (writer). It is the oldest operating arts and crafts colony in America. The Arts and Crafts movement arose in the late nineteenth century in reaction to the dehumanizing monotony and standardization of industrial production. Byrdcliffe was created as an experiment in utopian living inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement.The colony is still in operation today and is located on 300 acres (1.2 km2) with 35 original buildings, all designed in the Arts and Crafts style. There is a self-guided walking tour through the compound as well as a hiking path that leads to the mountain top which gives way to scenic Catskill views. Along with ongoing music, theater and art performances held in the Byrdcliffe Theater, Barn and on property lawns, The Byrdcliffe Colony hosts an Artist-In-Residence program that houses over 70 artists each summer who practice in a wide variety of fields and media. The program accepts writers, composers, and visual artists. Byrdcliffe maintains an exhibition and performance space in the heart of Woodstock, the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts, which hosts 6 or 7 exhibitions of primarily contemporary art annually.

Bearsville Sound Studio was a recording studio founded by Albert Grossman in the Bearsville section of Woodstock, New York.

The Church of the Holy Transfiguration of Christ on the Mount is a modest, single-room, hand-built wooden church near the summit of Meads Mountain in Woodstock, New York, originally constructed c. 1891 by William Mead and his wife, Anna Della Mead. Services in the Sarum Rite of the Western Orthodox (Catholic) tradition are held each Sunday morning. The church is purported to be the repository of a Marian weeping icon. In the 1960s, Father Francis, the much-beloved "hippie priest", here welcomed hippies who had congregated in town during those years that culminated in the famous art and music festival. Fr. Francis began the practice of this lesser known branch of Catholicism, which acknowledges the Pope as an earthly spiritual leader but, unlike classical Roman Catholicism, does not consider the Pope to be supreme or infallible. The church has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, due in meaningful part to the devoted efforts of Father Deacon John Nelson, an understudy of Fr. Francis and peer of contemporary spiritual leaders who reverently maintained the Church until his death on August 1, 2017.Fr. John's remains were committed to the earth alongside the structure following a traditional requiem Mass.

The Woodstock Playhouse is an American summer stock theater located at 103 Mill Hill Road in Woodstock, New York. Founded in 1938, the not-for profit theater, which is owned by the Pan American Dance Foundation, hosts theatre, music and other presentations throughout the year. The original building burned in 1988, with the current building having opened in June 2011.

Bearsville is a hamlet in Ulster County, New York, United States, in the town of Woodstock. It is located along New York State Route 212, within Catskill State Park and just to the west of the hamlet of Woodstock.Bearsville was named not for the numerous local black bears, but for German peddler and storekeeper Christian Baehr, who built a store on the Sawkill Creek in 1839.Places of interest in Bearsville, or named for it, include Bearsville Records and Bearsville Studios, and The Bearsville Theater and restaurant complex.The highest known temperature in Bearsville was 101 °F (38 °C), which occurred in 1995. The lowest temperature was −27 °F (−33 °C), recorded in 1994.

Maverick Concert Hall was built in 1916 and was part of the Maverick Artist Colony in Hurley, New York. The concert hall hosts the Maverick Concerts, a summer chamber music festival. Alexander Platt is the current music director. The mainstay of the series, which runs from the end of June through early September, is to be found in the chamber music concerts performed by distinguished soloists and ensembles on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. The Maverick Festival, a precursor to the Maverick Concerts, was founded in 1915 by Hervey White, and by 1931 the festival suspended.

Snake Rocks is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York south of Bearsville. Acorn Hill is located west-northwest, and Ohayo Mountain is located east-southeast of Snake Rocks.

Mount Guardian is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York northeast of Wittenberg. Overlook Mountain is located northeast, and Ohayo Mountain is located south of Mount Guardian.

Karma Triyana Dharmachakra is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Woodstock, New York, United States, which serves as the North American seat of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, head of the Karma Kagyu lineage. It was founded in 1976 by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa with Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche as abbot. He held this position until his death in 2019. The Third Bardor Tulku Rinpoche stayed in the United States to help Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche and Mr. Tenzin Chonyi establish and develop Karma Triyana Dharmachakra.

National Youth Administration Woodstock Resident Work Center is a national historic district located at Woodstock in Ulster County, New York. The district includes seven contributing buildings and three contributing structures. It includes three shop buildings, four shed buildings, a ca. 1900 barn, and a decorative flagpole base. It was built in 1939 by the National Youth Administration and operated until 1942 as a facility devoted to training youths in the industrial arts. The camp is currently used by the Woodstock School of Art.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
