Mayo is a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The population was 8,298 at the 2010 census. The Mayo CDP of 2010 includes all of the area that used to be counted as the Selby-on-the-Bay CDP. The beach in Mayo used to be a popular weekend resort.

Beverley Beach is an unincorporated community in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States.Beverley Beach is now a county park. In 2019 Maryland's Natural Resources Department mandated that the Beverley Beach Community Association open the beachfront to the public. Parking for the beach is only available at the main entrance at Beverly Triton Nature Park at 1202 Triton Beach Road Edgewater, MD 21037. Parking in the community to access the park is prohibited.

The Rhode River is a 3-mile-long (5 km) tidal tributary of the West River in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is south of the South River. Selby-on-the-Bay (often just called Selby) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States, for the 2000 census, at which time its population was 3,674. It was added to the Mayo CDP for the 2010 census.

The South River is a 10-mile-long (16 km) tributary of the Chesapeake Bay in Anne Arundel County, Maryland in the United States. It lies south of the Severn River, east of the Patuxent River, and north of the West River and Rhode River, and drains to the Chesapeake Bay. Total watershed area is 66 square miles (170 km2)(including water surface), 56 square miles (150 km2) (or 85%) of it land. From its headwaters in western Anne Arundel County in Crofton, the river enters the Chesapeake Bay south of the historic port city of Annapolis, hence the name South River. Its major non-tidal branches include the North River, which is the non-tidal portion of the South River, and Bacon Ridge Branch, which drains the area east of the North River. Their confluence is between Maryland Route 450 (Defense Highway) and US 50 (John Hanson Highway). Some of the creeks on its north shore drain highly developed portions of Annapolis, especially Church Creek, which drains much of the Parole and Annapolis Harbour shopping centers. The navigable portion of the South River is crossed by two bridges, one carrying Maryland Route 2 (Solomons Island Road), known as the South River Bridge, and the other carrying Riva Road, known as the Riva Bridge. A bridge carrying US 50 crosses its upper tidal reaches.

YMCA Camp Letts is a 220-acre (0.89 km2), co-educational summer residence camp and conference center located on the Rhode River, south of Annapolis, Maryland that is run by the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington. The camp was founded in 1906.

The Captain Avery Museum is a historic home and museum at Shady Side, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story frame building, located on a 0.75-acre (3,000 m2) rectangular lot. The house overlooks the West River and Chesapeake Bay. The two-story historic structure originally was the residence of the Chesapeake Bay waterman, Capt. Salem Avery, and was constructed about 1860. It was expanded in the nineteenth century and further expanded in the 1920s by the National Masonic Fishing and Country Club. The property consists of the main house with additions, three sheds formerly used as bath houses, and a modern boathouse built in 1993 that features the Edna Florence, a locally-built 1937 Chesapeake Bay deadrise workboat. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.The museum, originally called the Captain Salem Avery House Museum, was founded in 1984 by the Shady Side Rural Heritage Society as a local history museum. The names of the Society and the museum were changed in 2015. Currently, the Captain Avery Museum is owned and operated by a nonprofit organization, Captain Avery Museum, Inc.

Gresham is a historic home near Edgewater, Maryland. It is a large 2+1⁄2-story frame dwelling built in the late 1700s.John Gresham II lived at Gresham after 1686 on land owned by land-grant pioneer Captain Edward Selby.After the Selby heirs suffered financial setbacks, the plantation was owned briefly by the pirate William Cotter and then by assorted members of Colonel Nicholas Gassaway's family (his daughter Jane having married Cotter), including the sons of Captain John Gassaway, Lord High Sheriff of Annapolis. The Gresham family continued to own the house on rented Gassaway land then known as Cotter's Desire. Gresham is most associated with Commodore Isaac Mayo, who received it from his uncle who had purchased the property and house from the Cotter/Gassaway heirs around 1765. He occupied the property beginning in the early 19th century until his controversial death there in 1861 at the dawn of the Civil war he openly opposed.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Arundel-on-the-Bay (also referred to as "AOTB") is a former post village and resort area in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States, located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of Annapolis. Arundel-on-the-Bay is located on a peninsula known as the Annapolis Neck and is a peninsula in and of itself, bordered on the east and south by the Chesapeake Bay, and by Fishing Creek on the west. Located near Highland Beach, Arundel-on-the-Bay was formerly an enclave of vacation residences and undeveloped property which attracted affluent African Americans when Jim Crow laws were in effect, when entrance to other resort areas was barred to non-whites. The community now holds approximately 345 homes. Arundel-on-the-Bay is a special tax district; each year a portion of property taxes are reserved by Anne Arundel County for improvements and maintenance of the shoreline. The community owns a private beach and pier, boat ramp, and boat launch for community use. The Thomas Point Lighthouse is visible and a short boat ride from the Arundel-on-the-Bay community beach. Notable residents include Aris T. Allen, Jr., son of Dr. Aris T. Allen, the first African American chair of the Maryland Republican Party and Kurt Schmoke, former and first African American mayor of Baltimore.

The Key School is an independent coeducational school, located in the neighborhood of Hillsmere Shores in Annapolis, Maryland. The Key School was established by a group of tutors from St. John's College in 1958. Key is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
