The Captain Avery Museum is a historic home and museum at Shady Side, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story frame building, located on a 0.75-acre (3,000 m2) rectangular lot. The house overlooks the West River and Chesapeake Bay. The two-story historic structure originally was the residence of the Chesapeake Bay waterman, Capt. Salem Avery, and was constructed about 1860. It was expanded in the nineteenth century and further expanded in the 1920s by the National Masonic Fishing and Country Club. The property consists of the main house with additions, three sheds formerly used as bath houses, and a modern boathouse built in 1993 that features the Edna Florence, a locally-built 1937 Chesapeake Bay deadrise workboat. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.The museum, originally called the Captain Salem Avery House Museum, was founded in 1984 by the Shady Side Rural Heritage Society as a local history museum. The names of the Society and the museum were changed in 2015. Currently, the Captain Avery Museum is owned and operated by a nonprofit organization, Captain Avery Museum, Inc.

Galesville is an unincorporated town and census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 685.Galesville is located at 38°50'35" north, 76°32'37" west (38.8431707 -76.5435702), along the western shore of the West River, an arm of the Chesapeake Bay. By road it is approximately 14 miles (23 km) south of Annapolis, the state capital.

Cedar Park is a historic home at Galesville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It was originally constructed in 1702 as a 1+1⁄2-story post-in-the-ground structure, with hand-hewn timbers and riven clapboards and chimneys at either end, the earliest surviving earthfast constructed dwelling in Maryland and Virginia. Later additions and modifications, in 1736 and in the early 19th century, resulted in the brick structure of today. Also on the property is a frame tenant house or slave quarters of the mid-19th century. It was the birthplace and home of Founding Father John Francis Mercer, and between 1825 and 1834 it was an academy for young women operated by his daughter, Margaret Mercer, as "Miss Mercer's School."Cedar Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.

Parkhurst is a historic home at Harwood, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is a large two-story frame house with a complex floor plan, reflecting the evolution of the dwelling. The original Gothic Revival vernacular, center-passage, double-pile plan house was constructed about 1848-1850 by Richard S. Mercer. Alterations and additions were made in the early 20th century, giving the house a Neoclassical appearance. Also on the property are a timber framed mid-19th century smokehouse and an early-20th century frame tobacco barn.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. Tobacco barn was replaced in 2014

The Rhode River is a 3-mile-long (5 km) tidal tributary of the West River in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is south of the South River. These are its named tidal creeks and coves starting at the upper end and going clockwise, with a lower-order tributary listed after the "&" symbol: Muddy Creek Fox Creek Sheephead Cove Sellman Creek Bear Neck Creek & Whitemarsh Creek Cadle Creek Boathouse CoveYMCA Camp Letts sits on a peninsula at the northern end of the Rhode River, and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center occupies most of the northwestern shore of the Rhode River.

Tulip Hill is a plantation house located about one mile from Galesville in Anne Arundel County in the Province of Maryland. Built between 1755 and 1756, it is a particularly fine example of an early Georgian mansion, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970 for its architecture.The house sits atop a ridge and overlooks the West River. The house was built by Samuel Galloway for his wife, Ann (Chew) Galloway. They married in 1742.

The Lula G. Scott Community Center is a historic site located at Shady Side, Maryland in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It now consists of two frame buildings that were built as Rosenwald Schools. The buildings originally were built on separate sites. The Churchton School was constructed in 1921 and the Shady Side School was constructed in 1926. Both were built as single-story schools with two-room-plans. Decades later, one of the school buildings was moved to the site of the other, and expansion followed. The Churchton school was moved to the Shady Side School site in 1953. A wing was added in 1958.The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Beverley Beach is an unincorporated community in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States.Beverley Beach is now a county park. In 2019 Maryland's Natural Resources Department mandated that the Beverley Beach Community Association open the beachfront to the public. Parking for the beach is only available at the main entrance at Beverly Triton Nature Park at 1202 Triton Beach Road Edgewater, MD 21037. Parking in the community to access the park is prohibited.

YMCA Camp Letts is a 220-acre (0.89 km2), co-educational summer residence camp and conference center located on the Rhode River, south of Annapolis, Maryland that is run by the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington. The camp was founded in 1906.

It is located on the Rhode and West Rivers near Edgewater in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, near the western shore of Chesapeake Bay. The center's focus of study is the ecosystems of coastal zones, particularly in the Chesapeake Bay estuary and nearby wetlands.

Norman's Retreat is a historic home and farm complex at Galesville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It consists of an early-19th-century dwelling, three 19th-century outbuildings, and a bath house and gazebo of recent date. The 2+1⁄2-story house was constructed about 1812 and is of frame construction with a brick gable end.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
