McQuire is an unincorporated community in Frederick County, Virginia, United States. McQuire is located along Hogue Creek at the intersection of the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50) and Back Mountain Road (SR 614).

Indian Hollow is an unincorporated community along Hogue Creek in Frederick County, Virginia. It is named for the Indian Hollow through Hunting Ridge. The community is located on Indian Hollow Road (VA 679) northeast of Hayfield.

Frederick County is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 91,419. Its county seat is Winchester. The county was formed in 1743 by the splitting of Orange County. It is Virginia's northernmost county. Frederick County is included in the Winchester, VA-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia, DC-MD-VA-WV-PA Combined Statistical Area.

Willow Shade, also known as the Willa Cather House, is a historic home located near Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia. The house was built in 1851, and is a two-story, five-bay-by-three-bay, rectangular brick dwelling in a vernacular Late Greek Revival style. It has a three bay by two bay rear ell. The house sits on an English basement. It was the childhood home of author Willa Cather (1873–1947) and was built by her grandfather, William Cather. She was born at the nearby Willa Cather Birthplace and resided at Willow Shade from 1874 to 1883 before moving to Nebraska.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Willa Cather Birthplace, also known as the Rachel E. Boak House, is the site near Gore, Virginia, where the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Willa Cather was born in 1873. The log home was built in the early 19th century by her great-grandfather and has been enlarged twice. The building was previously the home of Rachel E. Boak, Cather's grandmother. Cather and her parents lived in the house only about a year before they moved to another home in Frederick County. The farmhouse was listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register (VLR) in 1976 and the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1978.

Gore is an unincorporated community in western Frederick County, Virginia, United States, located off the Northwestern Turnpike on Gore Road (SR 751) west of Winchester. The community is nestled in the Back Creek valley. It has been called "Back Creek". Gore serves as the western terminus of the Winchester and Western Railroad. It is home to the Gore plant of Unimin Corporation. Gore is the birthplace of the author Willa Cather.

Hogue Creek is a 17.3-mile-long (27.8 km) tributary stream of Back Creek in Frederick County, Virginia. Hogue Creek rises on Great North Mountain and flows into Back Creek at Graves Hill.

Gainesboro is an unincorporated community in Frederick County, Virginia. Gainesboro is located northwest of Winchester off the North Frederick Pike (US 522) on Gainesboro Road (VA 684). Gainesboro is the northernmost community in Virginia. Gainesboro was established in 1798 and originally known as Pugh Town or Pughtown after an early settler, Job Pugh, who surveyed and plotted the original village.

Round Hill is an unincorporated community in Frederick County, Virginia, United States. Round Hill is located west of Winchester on the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50). It is often referred to as Round Hill after Round Hill (1381 ft) but this may cause confusion as there is already an incorporated town with the same name in nearby Loudoun County. Round Hill has also been known as Chambersville throughout its history. It lies on Round Hill Road (SR 803), off U.S. Route 50 at Poorhouse Road (SR 654). The Frederick County Poor Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park became the 388th unit of the United States National Park Service when it was authorized on December 19, 2002. The National Historical Park was created to protect several historically significant locations in the Shenandoah Valley of Northern Virginia, notably the site of the American Civil War Battle of Cedar Creek and the Belle Grove Plantation. Although there are over 3,700 acres within the park's authorized boundary, over half of this is still privately owned. Much of the battlefield is not accessible to the public, but the park offers ranger-led and self-guided driving tours of the battlefield via public roads. Nearly all of the remaining land (approximately 1,500 acres) and buildings are preserved and administered by partner sites which predate the park. Since summer 2010, the park has offered interpretive ranger programs at key partner sites, including Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation headquarters, Belle Grove Plantation, and Hupp's Hill Civil War Park. The American Battlefield Trust and its federal, state and local partners have acquired and preserved 727 acres (2.94 km2) of the battlefield through November 2021, some of which has been acquired by the National Park Service and incorporated into the park.In 2012, the park acquired land on which sits a monument to the 8th Vermont Infantry and now offers access through semi-regular programs at the site. In March 2013, the park opened a Visitor Contact Station in Middletown, Virginia, featuring interpretive exhibits and information on how visitors can experience the park. The Cedar Creek Battlefield and Belle Grove is also a U.S. National Historic Landmark. and the 900-acre (360 ha) "Cedar Creek Battlefield and Belle Grove" is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The plantation house of Belle Grove (1797) is open to the public and operates independently as part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The listed area is in Frederick County and Warren County.

Frederick County Poor Farm, also known as the Frederick County Poorhouse, is a historic poor farm complex located at Round Hill, Frederick County, Virginia. The main building, erected in 1820, is a Federal style building that consists of a two-story brick main block and original lateral one-story brick wings with gable roofs. A nearly identical building is at the Shenandoah County Farm. Also on the property are a contributing brick spring house, secondary dwelling, blacksmith shop, storage building, poultry house, and board-and-batten outbuilding. The Frederick County Poor Farm remained open until 1947.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
