Ards and North Down

Ballyblack is a rural area in the Ards Peninsula of County Down, Northern Ireland, approximately 4 miles southeast of the town of Newtownards. Located in the barony of Ards Lower, Ballyblack townland spans the civil parish of Greyabbey and civil parish of Newtownards. According to PlacenamesNI.org, the name Ballyblack originates from "Baile Bhleaic" meaning Black's townland.The churchyard of Ballyblack Presbyterian Church, located in the townland, dates to the mid-19th century.

Mount Stewart is a 19th-century house and garden in County Down, Northern Ireland, owned by the National Trust. Situated on the east shore of Strangford Lough, a few miles outside the town of Newtownards and near Greyabbey, it was the Irish seat of the Stewart family, Marquesses of Londonderry. Prominently associated in particular with the 2nd Marquess of Londonderry (better known as Viscount Castlereagh), Britain's Foreign Secretary at the Congress of Vienna, and with the 7th Marquess of Londonderry, the former Air Minister who at Mount Stewart attempted private diplomacy with Hitler's Germany, the house and its contents reflect the history of the family's leading role in social and political life in Britain and Ireland.

Loughriscouse (from Irish Luachras Cua 'rushy place of (the) hollow') is a rural townland in County Down, Northern Ireland. It has an area of 1140.89 acres (4.62 km2). It is situated in the civil parish of Newtownards and the historic barony of Ards Lower, located 2 miles east of Newtownards. It lies within the Ards and North Down Borough Council.

Ards Lower (named after the former barony of Ards), alternatively known as North Ards, is a barony in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies on the northern half of the Ards Peninsula in the north-east of the county, with the Irish Sea to its east and Strangford Lough to its south-west. It is bordered by two other baronies: Ards Upper to the south; and Castlereagh Lower to the west.The barony of Ards Lower was created in 1851 when the barony of Ards was split into two, the other part being Ards Upper.

Movilla Abbey (Irish: Mainistir Mhaigh Bhile "Monastery of the Plain of the Notable Tree") in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland, is believed to have been one of Ulster's and Ireland's most important monasteries. Movilla should not be confused with Moville in County Donegal.

Newtownards (Irish: Baile Nua na hArda) is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough, 10 miles (16 km) east of Belfast, on the Ards Peninsula. It is in the civil parish of Newtownards and the historic baronies of Ards Lower and Castlereagh Lower. Newtownards is in the Ards and North Down Borough. The population was 29,677 in the 2021 Census.

Newtownards Aerodrome (ICAO: EGAD) is a local airfield in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is located 8.5 NM (15.7 km; 9.8 mi) east of Belfast. This airport offers light aircraft flights, helicopter flights (operated by HeliPower), microlight flights (operated by NI Microlights) and flight simulator training (by AlphaTech). The airport also has an onsite restaurant. Newtownards Aerodrome has a CAA Ordinary Licence (number P659) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee (Ulster Flying Club (1961) Limited).

Newtownards Priory was a medieval Dominican priory founded by the Savage family around 1244 in the village of Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland. Only the lower parts of the nave and two blocked doors in the south wall leading to a demolished cloister, survive from the period of the priory's foundation. The upper parts of the nave date from a 14th-century rebuilding and the western extension and the north aisle arcade were undertaken by the de Burgh family. The priory was dissolved in 1541, and was sacked and burned. It was granted to Hugh Montgomery who built a house within the ruins, rebuilding the north aisle and adding a tower at the entrance. The church contains the double grave of Frederick Stewart, 4th Marquess of Londonderry (1805–1872) and his wife Elizabeth née Jocelyn, Marchioness of Londonderry (1813–1884).

The Nendrum Monastery mill was a tide mill on an Mahee Island in Strangford Lough now in Northern Ireland. It is the earliest excavated tide mill, dating from 787 AD. Its millstones are 830mm in diameter and the horizontal wheel is estimated to have developed 7/8HP at its peak. Remains of an earlier mill dated at 619 AD were also found.

The Somme Heritage Centre is a tourist attraction and education centre in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland. Opened in 1994 the centre promotes Ireland's role in the First World War, and especially the role of both Protestant and Catholic, unionist and nationalist in the war. It focuses on three of the volunteer divisions in Ireland; 10th (Irish) Division 16th (Irish) Division 36th (Ulster) Division

Nendrum Monastery (Irish: Naondroim) was a Christian monastery on Mahee Island in Strangford Lough, County Down, Northern Ireland. Medieval records say it was founded in the 5th century, but this is uncertain. The monastery came to an end at some time between 974 and 1178, but its church served a parish until the site was abandoned in the 15th century. Some remains of the monastery can still be seen.

Market House is a municipal building in Conway Square, Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is a Grade B+ listed building.
