East Hollywood is a densely populated neighborhood of 78,000+ residents in the central region of Los Angeles, California. It is notable for being the site of Los Angeles City College, Barnsdall Park and a hospital district. There are seven public and five private schools, as well as a branch of the Los Angeles Public Library and three hospitals. Almost two-thirds of the people living there were born outside the United States and 90% were renters. In 2000 the neighborhood had high percentages of never-married people and of single parents.

Vermonica is a public art installation initiated by artist Sheila Klein in May 1993, uninstalled in November 2017 and reinstalled in a new location in December 2020. Vermonica is now located on Santa Monica Boulevard at Lyman Place, opposite the Cahuenga Branch Library. The sculpture is named for the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Vermont Avenue in East Hollywood. Some of the artwork's 25 lamp poles date to 1925, the year Los Angeles's Bureau of Street Lighting opened. Placed in front of a Rite-Aid, the lights glow to illuminate the mini-mall parking lot where it was located at specific times during the night. Sheila Klein cooperated with Los Angeles businesses, bureaus, departments and neighborhoods to erect what she describes as a "formal composition" and a "drive-in museum" of street lighting. Vermonica was envisioned initially as a temporary installation with borrowed poles from the nearby streetlight yard on Santa Monica Boulevard. The sculpture was so popular that it remained in place. Vermonica precedes Chris Burden's Urban Light by 15 years.

Los Angeles City College (LACC) is a public community college in East Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. A part of the Los Angeles Community College District, it is located on Vermont Avenue south of Santa Monica Boulevard on the former campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). From 1947 to 1955, the college shared its campus with California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA), then known as Los Angeles State College of Applied Arts and Sciences (LASCAAS), before the university moved to its present campus of 175 acres (71 ha) in the northeastern section of the City of Los Angeles, 5 miles (8 km) east of the Civic Center.

Cahuenga Branch is the third oldest branch library facility in the Los Angeles Public Library system. Located at 4591 Santa Monica Boulevard in the East Hollywood section of Los Angeles, it was built in 1916 with a grant from Andrew Carnegie. One of three surviving Carnegie libraries in Los Angeles, it has been designated as a Historic-Cultural Monument and listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Palais de Glace (Ice Palace) in Los Angeles, California was an indoor, artificial ice rink. The venue was the first artificial ice rink in Southern California and served the community until it was destroyed by fire in 1934.

Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a nationally ranked, freestanding acute care children's hospital in the East Hollywood district of Los Angeles, on Sunset Boulevard at the corner of Vermont Avenue. The hospital has been academically affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California since 1932 and the hospital features 401 pediatric beds. The hospital provides comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties to infants, children, teens, and young adults generally aged 0–21 throughout California and the west coast. The hospital also sometimes treats adults that require pediatric care. The hospital has a rooftop helipad and is an ACS verified level I pediatric trauma center, one of a few in the region. The hospital features a regional pediatric intensive-care unit and an American Academy of Pediatrics verified level IV neonatal intensive care unit. U.S. News & World Report ranks CHLA as the fifth best children's hospital in the United States and the best in California. It has also received Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Il Corral was a venue located in Los Angeles, California. that provided performance space for underground artists. It was founded by Bob Bellerue and Stane Hubert in January 2005. Bellerue ceased involvement in September 2006; Hubert and Christie Scott continued the venture until December 2007.Il Corral provided for music and film festivals: The Turn the Screws Fest, Noisepollination, Harsh Noise v. Metal, Druid Underground Film Festival, Aloud Fest, Salient Lock-Up, The Curse of El Topo, Bent, Hollywood Nihilist Comedy Spectacular and Thee Dung Mummy; benefit shows for the Los Angeles Eco-Village, Kill-Radio and Tarantula Hill; and workshops for circuit bending and puppetry. It was a centre for L.A. director Sean Carnage's weekly Monday night event. Carnage's "Monday nights" were documented in the movie 40 Bands 80 Minutes!, filmed entirely inside the Il Corral; in March 2007, after approximately 50 shows, Sean Carnage moved his Monday night events to Pehrspace.In addition to live recordings for CD and DVD, Il Corral hosted studio recordings for Amplified Piano Duets by Bob Bellerue & Jarrett Silberman, Snow White In Hell by KILT, Scavenger's Feast by Hive Mind, and also Corral Comp 05 for artists who had performed in the venue during 2005. Il Corral provided 215 live shows from January, 2006 until its closure in December 2007. It also served as a Bookshop and Record Store, selling cheap books on eclecticism, and music movies from the venue’s performers. Scott and Hubert opened a similar venue, Zero-Point, south of downtown L.A.; Bellerue left Los Angeles for Brooklyn curating numerous shows around NYC and most notably the Ende Tymes Fest since 2011.In October 2009, Il Corral was featured in Paper Cuts, a web site magazine produced by music label papercutsrecords.com.

Rincón Chileno (transl. Chilean nook) is a Chilean restaurant, delicatessen, and bakery in Los Angeles, California. Established in 1973, it is owned by Chilean immigrants Ricardo and Cristina Flores. After the 1973 Chilean coup d'état, it became a gathering place for the Chilean immigrant community in the Los Angeles area, who nicknamed it the "second Chilean consulate".

Vermont/Sunset station is an underground rapid transit (known locally as a subway) station on the B Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located under Vermont Avenue at its intersection with Sunset Boulevard, after which the station is named, in the Los Feliz, Silver Lake, and Little Armenia neighborhoods of East Hollywood in Los Angeles. The intersection of Vermont and Sunset is home to three major area hospitals: Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.

Reliance-Majestic Studios was an early American movie studio in Hollywood, California, originally built around 1914 at 4516 Sunset Boulevard. Within a few years, it became the home of D. W. Griffith and Mutual Film Corporation. The studio's name was changed to Fine Arts Studios, and was sometimes known as the Griffith Studio or the Griffith Artcraft Studio. The studio was formed by Mutual as a partnership between D. W. Griffith and Majestic Studio owner Harry Aitken.The Birth of a Nation (1915), Hearts of the World (1918) and Broken Blossoms (1919) were partially or fully lensed at the studio. The sets for Intolerance (1916) were erected across the street where the Vista Theatre stands.In 1915, Thomas Ince's Kay-Bee Pictures, Mack Sennett's Keystone Studios, and D. W. Griffith's Reliance-Majestic studio were combined to form the Triangle Film Corporation, which was headed by Harry and Roy Aitken. In 1927, Tiffany Pictures acquired the lot. Upon Tiffany's bankruptcy in 1932, the stages were renamed Talisman studios and used as a rental studio by a variety of studios such as Monogram Pictures. The lot (now with the address 4520 Sunset Boulevard) is currently the location of a Vons supermarket.
