Khayelitsha

Mandela Park is a neighborhood located within the Khayelitsha urban area of the City of Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It was established in 1986 under the apartheid era government of P.W. Botha as a residential area demarcated for black South Africans moving to Cape Town from the Eastern Cape province. It was one of the few areas in South Africa where black South Africans could purchase homes with bank loans in the 1980s. Many of the streets in the neighbourhood are named after anti-apartheid activists. The Mandela Park Backyarders association is based within the community.

The Khayelitsha tavern shooting was a mass shooting which occurred on the morning of 8 March 2020. It took place at a tavern in Site B, Khayelitsha and resulted in the deaths of seven people. An additional seven people were injured in the shooting including a six-year-old girl. Six people were shot dead at the tavern at the time of the event. The body of the seventh victim, the owner of the house the tavern was based in, was found a short while later at another location. A 32 year old suspect allegedly involved in the shooting was arrested the following day. A representative for the Western Cape provincial government stated there were fifteen previous mass shootings in the area that had similarities with this event.

Baphumelele Children's Home was founded in 2001 as a refuge and place of safety for orphaned and other vulnerable children from the Cape Flats. The home is one of the first in the township of Khayelitsha, one of the largest in South Africa. The founder of Baphumelele, Rosie Mashale, is a trained primary school teacher. She has been selected as a Mama Afrika by Clover. She has also been selected as a finalist in the Cape Times V&A Waterfront Woman of Worth Awards.

Chris Hani Secondary School is an English-medium school located in Khayelitsha, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. As of 2006 it had some 1,676 students and was staffed by 52 educators. In 2006 the Western Cape Education Department designated it one of 10 "Arts and Culture focus schools" to be set up over the following three years.

Wolfgat Nature Reserve is a coastal nature reserve in Mitchells Plain on False Bay in the Western Cape, South Africa.This conservation area consists of 248 ha (610 acres) of endangered dune vegetation and majestic limestone cliffs, extending along a portion of the False Bay coastline. The Cape Flats Dune Strandveld vegetation in this reserve contains over 150 plant species. These include evergreen shrubs, flowering succulents, arum lilies and a variety of daisy species. Birds such as kelp gulls and black oystercatchers nest here.A major threat to the reserve is the invasive alien Acacia cyclops (“rooikrans”) tree. This weed has spread across large parts of the coastline, smothering and killing local vegetation and upsetting coastal ecosystems. Wolfgat Nature Reserve is managed by the city of Cape Town, in partnership with the local communities of Khayelitsha and Mitchell’s Plein. The name Wolfgat means "wolf cave", and refers to the brown hyena or strandwolf which existed here until the 19th century. An ancient fossilised den of this species was discovered here in the 1960s and the stretch of coast was named after this discovery.

The Cape Flats (Afrikaans: Die Kaapse Vlakte) is an expansive, low-lying, flat area situated to the southeast of the central business district of Cape Town. The Cape Flats is also the name of an administrative region of the City of Cape Town, which lies within the larger geographical area.

Cape Town Film Studios is a film and television studio in Cape Town, South Africa. It opened in May 2010.The 200-hectare studio, located about 30 kilometres from the centre of Cape Town, has been involved in the production of a number of blockbusters, including Chronicle (2012), Dredd (2012), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), Tomb Raider (2018), Bloodshot (2020) and Monster Hunter (2020). It was also involved in the production of several television shows, including Black Sails (2014–2017) and Good Omens (2019).

Blue Downs is a town in the Western Cape, South Africa. It forms part of the Oostenberg subregion of the City of Cape Town situated on the eastern outskirts of the city and is also located on the Cape Flats, a flat expanse of land east of Cape Town. The suburb is one of the outlying areas of Cape Town that has been targeted by the Western Cape provincial government for development. Planned developments include improved public transportation for the area and the building of additional schools.

Tafelsig is a neighbourhood located within the Mitchells Plain urban area of the City of Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is located in the south eastern corner of the Mitchells Plain area. Mfuleni is a relatively new township about 32 kilometres from central Cape Town, South Africa. It is a predominantly Black township, although there are also some Coloured members of the community. Mfuleni is a suburb of Blue Downs area and is close to the sprawling township of Khayelitsha and also next to the new suburb of Malibu Village. Around 52,300 people live in this township. Most were moved there from the late 1990s following flooding and fires in different townships across the Western Cape, such as Philippi, Nyanga and Khayelitsha. Hence, the mixed nature of the community here. Unemployment, HIV/AIDS and crime are some of the most pressing problems in this poor township. Recently, the Department of Local government and Housing with its partners established a new housing project which built an additional 165 houses.Only 43% of Mfuleni residents are employed.

Eerste River (Eersterivier in Afrikaans, meaning "first river") is a town in the Western Cape, South Africa and a suburb of the City of Cape Town. It forms part of the Oostenberg subregion of the city situated behind the Stellenbosch/Vlaeberg Hills on the eastern outskirts of the city. . It lies on the R102 (Van Riebeek Road) about 40 km from Cape Town CBD and 8 km from Cape Town International Airport on the N2 route. Eerste River started off as many different farms and expanded vastly after the 1980s. It is a diverse town; many of its almost 40,000 residents originally immigrated here from elsewhere. Among its beauty is the area called Penhill, hidden from the town and filled with nature. Schools in Eerste River include the Afrikaans-medium Eersterivier Secondary School. Other schools in the area include Forest Heights Primary School, Palm Park Primary School, Stratford Primary School, Spurwing Primary School, Tuscany Glen Primary School, Melton Primary School, Helderkruin Primary School, Tuscany High School, Forest Heights High School, and in the surrounding areas Kleinvlei High School and Malibu High School. Population statistics indicate that the suburb has close to 40,000 residents, but other estimates are closer to 52,000 when Kleinvlei, Palm Park and Penhill are included to the municipality - which are all still considered suburbs of Eerste River by locals and many visitors alike. Delft, Blackheath, Wesbank and Brentwood Park used to be a part of the town, but as the towns grew, all were given their own municipalities.
