Panaji (; also known as Panjim) is the capital of the Indian state of Goa and the headquarters of North Goa district. Previously, it was the territorial capital of the former Portuguese India. It lies on the banks of the Mandovi river estuary in the Tiswadi sub-district (tehsil). With a population of 114,759 in the metropolitan area, Panaji is Goa's largest urban agglomeration, ahead of Margao and Mormugao. Panaji has terraced hills, concrete buildings with balconies and red-tiled roofs, churches, and a riverside promenade. There are avenues lined with gulmohar, acacia and other trees. The baroque Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church is located overlooking the main square known as Praça da Igreja. Panaji has been selected as one of hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under the Smart Cities Mission. The city was built with stepped streets and a seven kilometre long promenade on a planned grid system after the Portuguese relocated the capital from Velha Goa in the 17th century. It was elevated from a town to a city on 22 March 1843.

Tiswadi (Portuguese: Ilhas de Goa, lit. 'Islands of Goa', or simply Ilhas) is a sub-district in the district of North Goa, situated in the Indian coastal state of Goa. It is the largest and populous island of Goa situated in the basin of the Zuari and Mandovi rivers. It was one of the first territories to be annexed by Portugal in 1510 AD. Both the state capital Panaji, and the former capital Old Goa are within the sub-district. It is one of 6 major islands between the Mandovi and Zuari rivers.

The Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church (Portuguese: Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceição) is located in Panjim, Goa, India. The Church conducts Mass every day in English, Konkani, and Portuguese.The colonial Portuguese Baroque style church was first built in 1541 as a chapel on a hill side overlooking the city of Panjim. It was eventually replaced by a larger church in the 1600s as part of Portuguese Goa's religious expansion. This church houses the ancient bell that was removed from the Augustinian ruins of the Church of Our Lady of Grace (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora da Graça) in the once famed city of Old Goa. This bell is considered to be the second largest of its kind in Goa, surpassed only by the Golden Bell which resides in the Sé Cathedral in Old Goa.

Azad Maidan is a martyrs' monument and ground in the Indian state of Panaji, Goa. It is located opposite the Goa Police headquarters on the Mahatma Gandhi Road, Panaji. It is located at 15°30′0″N 73°49′34″E.

The Instituto Vasco da Gama (Institute Vasco da Gama) Goa, today known as the Institute Menezes Braganza, was founded in 1871 on the initiative of Tomás António Ribeiro Ferreira, better known by Tomás Ribeiro, with the aim of promoting and supporting science and Lusophone literature in Goa. The Instituto Vasco da Gama promoted the golden age of Indo-Portuguese literature, and journalistic interventions besides texts in historiography and poetry.The institution received a building from the Portuguese authorities for the setting-up of its headquarters and the necessary financial support for the publication of the Boletim do Instituto Vasco da Gama (Bulletin of the Institute Vasco da Gama), a monthly journal. After a period of erasure, the Institute was restructured in 1924.In 1963, after the merger of Goa into India, it has changed its name to Institute Menezes Bragança, named after Luís de Menezes Braganza, journalist and one of the Goan pioneers of anti-colonialism.From March 1925, the Instituto Vasco da Gama was attached to the Biblioteca Pública de Goa (public library of Goa).In, 15 April 1952, it was made a Commander of the Order of Saint James of the Sword (Comendador da Ordem Militar de Sant'Iago da Espada).

Fontainhas (or Bairro das Fontainhas, in Portuguese) is an old Latin Quarter in Panjim, capital city of the state of Goa, India. It maintains its Portuguese influence, particularly through its architecture, which includes narrow and picturesque winding streets like those found in many European cities, old villas and buildings with projecting balconies painted in the traditional tones of pale yellow, green, or blue, and roofs made of red coloured tiles. Fontainhas' heritage ambience represents the traditional Portuguese influence in the area.

Bookworm is a library for children that operates out of the locality of Taleigão, near the capital city of Panjim (Panaji) in Goa, India. The lending library is aimed "for children of all ages and abilities" and has dedicated spaces for creative activities and reading. Bookworm also runs a "program of workshops for both children and parents." It promotes cultural activities—with a needlecraft group, book discussions, a pre-school program and an adult art program. The library is located near St Michael's Church in Taleigao.

The Goa Public Service Commission is a constitutional body of the government of the Indian state of Goa, with responsibility for selection and examination of civil service employees. The Government of Goa is required to consult it on matters relating to the appointment, rules of recruitment, transfer, promotion and disciplinary action of civil servants. It reports directly to the Governor of Goa. The chairman and other members are appointed by the Governor of Goa. In 2018, Jose Manuel Noronha was the chairman, Ameya Abhayankar was secretary and Seema V. Malkarnekar the deputy-secretary.

18th June Road is one of the busiest streets in Panaji, Goa, India. It is located in the heart of the city, and is a major shopping destination for the tourist folks. Major businesses and restaurants line the street. The street is named after the day in 1946 on which Ram Manohar Lohia had called a meeting to put an end to the Portuguese rule in India.
