Tatabánya (Hungarian: Tatabányai járás; German: Kreis Totiserkolonie) is a district in south-eastern part of Komárom-Esztergom County. Tatabánya is also the name of the town where the district seat is found. The district is located in the Central Transdanubia Statistical Region.

Tatabánya ([ˈtɒtɒbaːɲɒ]; German: Totiserkolonie; Slovak: Banská Stará) is a city with county rights of 64,305 inhabitants in northwestern Hungary, in the Central Transdanubian region. It is the capital of Komárom-Esztergom County.

Tatabánya (Hungarian: Tatabánya vasútállomás) is a railway station in Tatabánya, Komárom-Esztergom County, Hungary. The station opened on 15 July 1884. The station is located on the main line between Vienna and Budapest (Line 1 Budapest–Hegyeshalom railway), Line 12 Tatabánya–Oroszlány railway and Line 13 Tatabánya–Pápa railway. The train services are operated by MÁV START.

Bánhida (in German: Weinhild) is the oldest quarter of the city of Tatabánya in north-western Hungary. Inhabited since ancient times, excavations in this area have uncovered finds from the Bronze Age and the Roman era. It is hypothesized that the name derives from a former landowner named Bán who owned a bridge across the Rákos River (now called Által-ér).

The Imre Földi Sports Hall (Hungarian: Földi Imre Sportcsarnok) is a multi-use indoor arena in Tatabánya, Hungary. The home of Hungarian top division handball club Tatabánya KC, it can accommodate up to 1,000 spectators in handball matches. Due to its dimensions, the sports hall is suitable for a number of other indoor sports as well as exhibitions and concerts.Built in 1976, the arena went through a refurbishment in 2009 at a cost of 212 million Hungarian Forint (approximately US$900,000). In the project the weightlifting hall has been expanded and a new 280 square meter warm-up room was created. On the top of the weightlifting hall a 255 square metre training hall for the wrestling department was constructed while judo competitors got a 220 square meter practice room on the top floor.Since March 2009 the sports hall bears the name of local Olympic champion weightlifter Imre Földi.

Vértesszőlős is a village in Komárom-Esztergom county, Hungary. It is most known for the archaeological site where a Middle Pleistocene human fossil, known as "Samu", was found.

Samu is the nickname given to a fragmentary human occipital bone (also known as "Vertesszolos man", or "Vertesszolos occipital") found in Vértesszőlős, Central Transdanubia, Hungary. The discovery was made on 21 August 1965 during a dig led by László Vértes, and the fossil was named Sámuel, 21 August being the name day of biblical judge Samuel in Hungarian tradition. It has since become widely known as Samu, a Hungarian short form of the name. Hungarian anthropologist Andor Thoma (1928–2003) initially described it as Homo erectus seu sapiens paleohungaricus. The fossil at the time was believed to be about 500,000 years old, and some literature of the 1970s classifies it as Homo erectus. Analyses performed in the 1990s have revealed a significantly younger age, at between 250,000 and 300,000 years old (Mindel glaciation), and the fossil is now classified as Homo heidelbergensis.The Vértesszőlős archaeological site itself had been discovered by Márton Pécsi in 1962. Also found at the site were two child teeth, Abbevillian stone tools and a fireplace. The site is now open to the public. A replica of the Samu occipital bone is on exhibit in the local museum (the original is kept in the Hungarian National Museum), as well as associated tools and fossilized animal footprints."Samu" has become a common name for plastic skeletons shown in biology classes in Hungarian student slang.

Komárom-Esztergom (Hungarian: Komárom-Esztergom vármegye, pronounced [ˈkomaːrom ˈɛstɛrɡom]; German: Komitat Komorn-Gran; Slovak: Komárňansko-ostrihomská župa) is an administrative Hungarian county in Central Transdanubia Region; its shares its northern border the Danube with Slovakia. It shares borders with the Hungarian counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron, Veszprém, Fejér and Pest and the Slovakian Nitra Region (Nové Zámky District, Komárno District). Its county seat is Tatabánya.

Vértessomló (German: Schemling) is a village in Komárom-Esztergom County, Hungary. On January 29, 2011 a moderate earthquake struck below Vértessomló. 26 damage cases have been reported in the greater epicenter area. It was essentially light damage like cracks in walls and fallen chimneys. The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.3 at a shallow focal depth of 5 km. People in Vértessomló and in Oroszlány ran into the streets and stayed there for a couple of hours because of the fear for aftershocks. The earthquake was well felt in Budapest.
