Vaartse Rijn

Jutphaas is a former village and municipality in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands. The municipality merged with Vreeswijk in 1971, and is now the northern half of the town of Nieuwegein. The former village was located on the Merwedekanaal, and some of the buildings can still be found there, surrounded by the suburbs of Nieuwegein.

Nieuwegein (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌniʋəˈɣɛin] (listen)) is a municipality and city in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is bordered on the north by the city of Utrecht, the provincial capital. It is separated from Vianen to the south by the river Lek and borders on IJsselstein in the southwest and Houten in the east. Nieuwegein has 64,606 inhabitants as of 1 December 2021. Several national sports federations are housed in Nieuwegein, including the NeVoBo (volleyball), KNZB (swimming), NBb (basketball) and KNCB (cricket). There are three main secondary schools in the city, including the Anna van Rijn College, Oosterlicht College and the Cals College.

Heemstede is a hamlet in the central Netherlands. It is located 3 km west of Houten, Utrecht. The hamlet is known for Heemstede Castle (1645). Until 1812, Heemstede was a separate heerlijkheid. Between 1818 and 1857 it was a part of Oud-Wulven, until that municipality merged with Houten. The area had 75 inhabitants around 1850.

Stadscentrum is a tram stop of the Utrecht sneltram network, located beside the Nieuwegein Cityplaza shopping mall in Nieuwegein. It is along the SUNIJ (sneltram Utrecht-Nieuwegein-IJsselstein) line which runs south from the Jaarbeursplein stop at Utrecht Centraal railway station. South of the Stadscentrum stop is the main junction of the sneltram network where southbound trams from Utrecht branch to either IJsselstein-Zuid and Nieuwegein-Zuid, lines 60 and 61 respectively.There is a plan to build a new public transport hub during which the existing tram stop and bus station would be relocated. In first half of 2022, the temporary tram stop will be relocated to its permanent location. With the exception of the tram stops at Utrecht Centraal, Nieuwegein-Stadscentrum is the busiest tram stop on the Utrecht tram system. In 2018, the daily tram ridership at the stop was 2,000 per day in addition to 1,400 bus riders. The new hub is expected to serve 5,000 riders per day in future.Until 30 May 2020, the Stadscentrum stop had high platforms and was located on the north side of the street Passage at the entrance to the Cityplaza shopping mall. After that date, the line was then shut down to lower and lengthen the tram platforms along the SUNIJ line to accommodate new low-floor trams. The original high-platform Stadscentrum stop was decommissioned. After the line reopened on 3 January 2021, the tram stop had been temporarily relocated northwards parallel to the street Spoorstede between the streets Schouwstede and Hagestede. There is a bus terminal located at the north-east corner of the tram right-of-way and the street Schouwstede.Between 26 February and 16 June 2022, buses will replace trams to Nieuwegein and IJsselstein in order to relocate the Stadscentrum tram stop and realign the tracks. The final location for the stop will be between the streets Passage and Weverstede. The stop will be wheelchair-accessible from both ends of each platform. Because of the presence of many pedestrians and cyclists near the stop, the maximum speed for trams going through this area will be 20 km/h. After 16 June 2021, trams will serve the new stop which will have temporary shelters on the platforms pending the erection of a permanent canopy.The relocation of the tram stop is part of a larger redevelopment effort at City Nieuwegein. The buildings south-west of the tram tracks will be demolished in order to construct 1600 new residences. The demolition allows the tram tracks to be shifted in that direction.There is an emergency crossover between the platforms of the temporary Stadscentrum stop. After the relocation of the stop, this crossover will be available to turn back trams that arrive from Utrecht at the southbound platform of the permanent stop.A new adjacent bus station is planned for 2025. It will be located at the south-west corner of the streets Schouwstede and Spoorstede.

Kasteel Heemstede is a restaurant in Houten, Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star for the periods 2003-2008 and 2011-present. The restaurant is located in the souterrain of the eponymous castle, although it was in fact an buitenplaats.GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 16 out of 20 points.Owner and head chef of Kasteel Heemstede is André van Doorn, who opened the restaurant in 2002.Restaurant Kasteel Heemstede is a member of the Les Patrons Cuisiniers.

Tolsteeg is a neighbourhood in the south of the Dutch city of Utrecht. Tolsteeg was a separate municipality between 1818 and 1823, when it was merged with Utrecht.

SVA Papendorp (Magreb '90 until 2018) are a Dutch amateur football (soccer) club from Utrecht, founded in 1990. The club holds a Saturday team competing in the Derde Divisie, the fourth tier of professional football in the Netherlands.

Kanaleneiland is a district within the Southwest section of the Dutch city of Utrecht. It was listed (in 2005) as one of 40 "problem neighborhoods" that required extra attention by the Dutch Ministry of Housing.Kanaleneiland's residents have low levels of employment, health, and education. Approximately 76% of the population are not ethnically Dutch, most of them being of Turkish and Moroccan origin. This unique political climate is one that shaped the views of one of its ex-residents, national politician Geert Wilders. During his time in Kanaleneiland, Geert Wilders lived in an apartment complex on the Marco Pololaan, a busy street overlooking the Columbus park. This apartment complex is located above a Lidl supermarket, and has seen an increase in popularity among right-wingers.

On the morning of 18 March 2019, three people were killed and seven others were injured in a mass shooting on a tram in Utrecht, Netherlands. One of the injured died of his injuries ten days later. Gökmen Tanis, a 37-year-old Turkish man, was arrested later that day following a major security operation and manhunt. He was later convicted of murder with terrorist intent and sentenced to life in prison. The shooting was classified as an act of Islamic extremism.

Lunetten is a neighbourhood in the southeastern part of the city of Utrecht, that has approximately 12.000 inhabitants. It is mainly a residential area, since there is no significant industry present. Lunetten was constructed as an urban experiment mostly during the late 1970s and 1980s. It was designed and planned by a combination of students of architecture and urban planning and the then foreseen future inhabitants. A result of this was the use of a ring-road with many circular bifurcations running back onto themselves or with dead ends. In Dutch this is called a Bloemkoolwijk ("Cauliflower-neighbourhood"). This urban setup results in the whole neighbourhood becoming like a single living street, much like a distinct village within a city. Lunetten has a network of alleyways connecting the inner courtyards of the urban blocks. This creates a child-friendly neighbourhood with many playing spots. There are also many sports facilities within and around Lunetten. Lunetten is surrounded by major railroads and highways. To cope with the noise and pollution a park was created to surround and insulate the neighbourhood. Lunetten has the longest (140 meters) lightweight bridge in the world with a weight of 400 tonnes (Viaduct Nieuwe Houtenseweg). This was constructed on the A27 on the weekend of 3 and 4 March 2012.

Nieuwegein-Zuid is a tram stop of the Utrecht sneltram network, located in the most southern part of Nieuwegein. It is since its opening in 1983 the terminus of Line 60, Utrecht Central Station - Nieuwegein South. It connects the Hoog-Zandveld neighbourhood of Nieuwegein with IJsselstein and Utrecht. It is located right next to a shopping center.

Vaartsche Rijn is a railway station in the Dutch city of Utrecht. It is situated on the railway lines between Utrecht and Arnhem and between Utrecht and 's-Hertogenbosch. Construction started in September 2010 and after some delays was officially opened at 23 August 2016. The station was built as part of ProRail's Randstadspoor project to improve suburban rail travel. Six to eight thousand riders are expected to use the station each day.The station has 4 tracks with 2 island platforms, 3 underground pedestrian passages and space for 650 bicycles and 200 cars. The platforms can be reached by stairs or transparent lifts, and are sheltered with roofs made of wood. The station is built six meters above street level.On 14 December 2019, line 22 (the Uithoflijn) of the Utrecht sneltram (light rail) system opened from Utrecht Centraal to the Uithof district with a stop at Vaartsche Rijn station. The stop has two side platforms.
