Thornton is a southern suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. Thornton is situated only 10 kilometres (6 mi) east of the city centre, adjacent to Pinelands. Like Pinelands, Thornton is a mainly residential suburb with an abundance of trees. It is bordered by the Elsieskraal River, Pinelands, Viking Way, and the M7 Jakes Gerwel Drive. Many of the streets in Thornton are named after Viking themes, such as Thor Circle, Odin Drive and Viking Way. Others are named after trees, such as Poplar Avenue and Sipres Avenue.

Goodwood is a suburb of Cape Town in the Western Cape, South Africa and is situated in the Tygerberg region of the City of Cape Town. It is 10 kilometres from Cape Town and accessible from the N1, N7 and N2 highways.The town was established in 1905 and named after Goodwood Racecourse in England as the founders intended to make it a racing centre. A course was actually constructed, but after only one meeting it was abandoned.The first railway station was built in 1905, and today there are five within the municipal area. Three of them lie on the Cape Town-Johannesburg main line: Goodwood, Vasco and Elsies River. It also has Monte Vista and Acasia Park stations which are on the secondary line between Cape Town and Bellville.

Mutual railway station is a Metrorail commuter rail station located between the suburbs of Maitland and Pinelands in Cape Town, South Africa. It is situated next to the South African headquarters of the Old Mutual, from which it takes its name. Mutual is a particularly busy station because it is the junction at which the Central Line towards Mitchell's Plain and Khayelitsha diverges from the Northern Line main line to Bellville. The station is divided into two parts, connected by a platform-to-platform bridge. To the north there is a side platform and an island platform, serving three tracks of the Northern Line; to the south, an island platform containing a single bay, serving three tracks of the Central Line. There is a station building on either side of the tracks.

Goodwood Centre of Excellence or Goodwood Correctional Centre is a medium security prison in Edgemead, Cape Town and run by the South African Department of Correctional Services. Despite its location in Edgemead the prison is named after the nearby neighbourhood of Goodwood.
