Cedar Knolls is an unincorporated community located within Hanover Township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is part of Hanover Township along with Whippany. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 4,082.

The Parsippany Troy-Hills School District serves students in ten elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools and an adult education center. The community served by the district is ethnically, culturally and linguistically diverse. As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising 14 schools, had an enrollment of 7,248 students and 643.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.3:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. Parsippany is a census-designated place (CDP) and the central community in the township of Parsippany-Troy Hills, Morris County, New Jersey, United States. It includes development around Lake Parsippany, as well as neighborhoods in the eastern part of the township, between Troy Hills to the south and Lake Hiawatha to the north. The southern end of Boonton Reservoir is also in the CDP. Interstate 80 and Interstate 287 intersect in the center of the CDP. Whippany Park High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grade from Hanover Township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as one of the two secondary schools of the Hanover Park Regional High School District. The other school in the district, Hanover Park High School, serves students from East Hanover and Florham Park. The school is located in the Whippany section of Hanover Township and was established in 1967 as the district's second facility.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 615 students and 61.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.1:1. There were 9 students (1.5% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 2 (0.3% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Whippany is a unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Hanover Township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Whippany's name is derived from the Whippanong Native Americans, a tribe that once inhabited the area. Whippanong meant "place of the willows", named for the trees growing along the banks of the Whippany River.
