St. Johnsville (village), New York

St. Johnsville is a town in Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 2,631 at the 2010 census. Accounts vary as to the etymology of St. Johnsville, but most of them state that the town and its village are named after an early surveyor and commissioner, Alexander St. John. Still others credit the naming of St. Johnsville to a former name for the area, St. John's Church. The Town of St. Johnsville is in the northwestern part of the county. The town contains a village, also called St. Johnsville. Both town and village are approximately halfway between Utica and Amsterdam. The Erie Canal, as part of the Mohawk River, is at the town's southern border.

US Post Office-St. Johnsville is a historic post office building located at St. Johnsville in Montgomery County, New York, United States. It was built in 1936, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department under Louis A. Simon. It is a one-story, symmetrical brick building on a stone watertable in the Colonial Revival style. It features a copper clad gable roof with a square, flat topped cupola with a weathervane. The interior features a 1940 mural by Jirayr H. Zorthian (1911-2004) titled "Early St. Johnsville Pioneers." It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Bates-Englehardt Mansion, also known as St. Johnsville Community House, is a historic home located at St. Johnsville in Montgomery County, New York, United States. It was built in 1869 as a three-story Italianate style mansion. It has a 35 feet by 40 feet main block with a two-story kitchen wing in the rear. A brick solarium was added in 1916 and enlarged and converted to an auditorium in 1934. The original Italianate style flat roof with cupola was replaced in 1916 with a Georgian style roof. The front entrance features a Colonial Revival style porch added in 1909. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

First Methodist Episcopal Church of St. Johnsville, also known as the United Methodist Church of St. Johnsville, is a historic Methodist Episcopal church located at St. Johnsville, Montgomery County, New York. The church was built in 1879, and is a one-story, Gothic Revival style brick building over a limestone block foundation. It has a slate gable roof and features a corner entrance tower and arched openings. The associated church parsonage or Lewis Snell House, was built in 1866. It is a 1 1/2-story, Italianate style brick dwelling with a low pitched hipped roof. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Margaret Reaney Memorial Library is a historic library building located at St. Johnsville, Montgomery County, New York. It is a one-story, Classical Revival style brick building over a raised basement. It consists of a cruciform plan main block constructed in 1909, and a 1936 "T"-plan addition. The front facade features a projecting entrance portico. The building is placed in the contributing Village Memorial Park with a Soldiers Monument (1937) and a Bronze Sculpture (1898) by Roland Hinton Perry (1870-1941). It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Enlarged Double Lock No. 33 Old Erie Canal is a historic Erie Canal lock located at St. Johnsville in Montgomery County, New York. It was built in 1824 and enlarged in 1840. The south lock was enlarged in 1888. It is built entirely of large cut limestone blocks mortared with hydraulic cement. Lock 33 fell into disuse after the opening of the New York State Barge Canal in 1918. Since 1997, it has been reclaimed and restored by local volunteers. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Stone Grist Mill Complex is a historic grist mill complex located at St. Johnsville in Montgomery County, New York. The complex consists of the mill, the remains of a stone impoundment dam, the mill owner's house, bar, wagon shed, and hog house. The mill was built about 1835 and is a 30 by 50 feet gable roofed structure constructed of rough cut, native limestone block laid in random ashlar. The mill is now occupied by a bed and breakfast. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Nellis Tavern is a historic inn and tavern located at St. Johnsville in Montgomery County, New York. It was built about 1747-1750 as a farmhouse and expanded about 1790 to its present form. It is a two-story, five-by-two-bay frame residence constructed atop a coursed rubblestone foundation. The building has been restored to the period of about 1835, when it was used as a tavern. After the American Civil War the tavern business declined and the building was used again as a family farmhouse. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. An herb garden has been established on the grounds, and there is an associated yearly Rhubarb Festival.

The Battle of Klock's Field was an engagement during the American Revolutionary War in the Mohawk Valley region of New York between British and Loyalist forces led by Lieutenant Colonel Sir John Johnson, and New York militia and levies led by Brigadier General Robert Van Rensselaer. The battle occurred on the north side of the Mohawk River in what is now St. Johnsville in Montgomery County. The result was inconclusive with neither side able to claim a clear victory.

Fort Klock, a fortified stone homestead in the Mohawk River Valley of Upstate New York, was built c.1750 by Johannes Klock, and is a good example of a mid-18th century fortified home and trading post, seeing use during the French and Indian War and the American Revolutionary War The fort is located at 7203 Route 5 roughly two miles (3 km) east of the Village of St. Johnsville, New York. Fort Klock is part of a 30-acre (12 ha) complex that includes the historic homestead, a renovated Colonial Dutch Barn, blacksmith shop, and 19th-century schoolhouse. The site is maintained by Fort Klock Historic Restoration and is open seasonally as a living museum. The fort was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1972.
