The Antique Boat Museum is a located in the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River, in Clayton, New York, United States. The Antique Boat Museum is the premier freshwater boating museum in North America. The ABM's collections hold over 320 unique boats and thousands of related artifacts and archives. The 4.5-acre campus comes alive with speedboat rides, a working skiff livery, and educational programs. It is the site for the country's longest, continuously running annual Antique Boat Show and Auction. The museum has seasonal hours and is open from the first Friday in May to the end of October.

Capt. Simon Johnston House, also known as Kemp House, is a historic home located at Clayton in Jefferson County, New York. It was built in 1880-1882 and is a 2+1⁄2-story frame Italianate style residence. The main facade features an engaged central tower extending one story above a low pitched hipped roof. The tower features a pagoda style roof. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Clayton Historic District is a designated historic district in Clayton, New York. It was originally listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, with its boundaries expanded in 1997. The district includes the Capt. Simon Johnston House, which is also individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Calumet Island is an island on the St. Lawrence River, located in the Town of Clayton in Jefferson County, New York. The island formerly featured one of the earliest examples of the large castles built in the Thousand Islands region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, of which Boldt Castle is a surviving example.

Fairview Manor also known as Longue Vue Manor, Our Lady of Fairview, and Fairview Manor Restaurant and Lodge, is a historic home located at Clayton in Jefferson County, New York. It was built in 1937 as a summer retreat for Carl Zimmerman. It is a very interesting and intact interpretation of a European castle/Manor house with a distinctive eclectic French flavor. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. As of April 2011, the property was permanently closed, and had been for quite some time, due to the overgrown nature of the surroundings. The property includes approximately 16 acres, several out buildings, guest cabins, a chapel, and a river front location. In July 2014, current owners purchased 7.6 acres, after the property was subdivided, including the French Eclectic Manor, the chapel, cottages near the manor, and of course the St. Lawrence River view! The property had fallen into disrepair after nearly 8 years of vacancy. The original slate roof was harvested and replaced with a composite slate roof, the original slate will be repurposed as cheese boards, coasters, etc. All the windows were replaced by Marvin Windows, replicating their original style. A new geothermal heating and cooling system was installed. Interior and Exterior renovations were complete to preserve the history.

The St. Lawrence Reservation (originally known as the State Reservation on the St. Lawrence) was a former protected area established by the state of New York in the Thousand Islands region along the St. Lawrence River in the late 19th century. The reservation's parks were some of the earliest lands purchased by New York State for the purposes of recreation and land preservation. Initially intended to become part of an international park with islands protected by Canada, properties acquired by New York for the reservation are today managed as independent state parks by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Islands that comprised the Canadian portion of the never-realized international park are today part of the Thousand Islands National Park.

Grindstone Island is the fourth largest of the Thousand Islands in the St. Lawrence River and the second largest of the American islands in the St. Lawrence. The island lies near Lake Ontario and is part of the United States. In particular, the island is part of the Town of Clayton in Jefferson County, New York. The island contains Potters Beach, a private vineyard, summer gift shops, four active beef farms, historic but now abandoned farmlands, and private non-government conservation lands owned by the Thousand Island Land Trust (TILT). New York State's last operating one-room school was on the island and closed in 1989. The current number of year-round households on the island is ten, however the population climbs to 700 people during the summer months.

Grindstone Island Upper Schoolhouse is a historic one-room school building located on Grindstone Island, Clayton, Jefferson County, New York. It was built in 1885, and is a 1 1/2-story, three bay by one bay, frame building on a granite foundation. The building includes a vestibule and small teachers apartment. Also on the property is a contributing well pump. It operated until 1989, making it the last one-room school in operation in New York State.: 5–6 It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Clayton is a town in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The population was 5,153 at the 2010 census. The town is named after John M. Clayton, a federal political leader from Delaware. The town contains a village also named Clayton. Both are northwest of Watertown. The village of Clayton, nearby Cape Vincent, and Alexandria Bay are popular tourist destinations on the New York mainland side of the Thousand Islands region.

Murray Isle is an island in the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River in the U.S. state of New York. The island lies in the Town of Clayton, near its border with the Town of Orleans, in the northern part of Jefferson County. Today, Murray Isle is the site of many summer cottages. While the record is unclear, it is believed that the first cottage on Murray Isle was built in 1860. The structure, a simple log cabin, was owned by Daniel Sherman. By 1880, the island had four cottages, all located upriver, on the northern portion of the island. Murray was formerly known as Hemlock Island due to the presence of that variety of tree, but the name was changed in the late 18th century to Murray Hill Park after the Murray Hill area of New York City when the island was developed and lots sold off. The development was never finished. The name was shortened to its present form some time later. The Murray Hill Hotel was built on the island in the late 19th century, and served tourists who came over on steam ships from Clayton, NY through the early 20th century when it closed and was ultimately torn down. Today a community house and post office sit on the former site of the hotel. The post office operates yearly from June until September. An annual "Fish Fry" is hosted on the grounds of the community house every summer; the event takes place on the first Saturday of July. Murray Isle is bounded by channels on both its eastern and western tips. The channel on the island's eastern tip, known as "The Narrows" separates Murray Isle and Wellesley Island. A small islet known as Wintergreen Island (formerly Whippoorwill Island) is connected by a footbridge along the southern length of Murray.

Canoe-Picnic Point State Park is a 70-acre (0.28 km2) state park located on Grindstone Island in the St. Lawrence River. The park is within the bounds of the Town of Clayton in Jefferson County, New York. The park is 1 of 80 New York State Parks that are in the path of totality for the 2024 solar eclipse, with the park experiencing 3 minutes and 20 seconds of totality.

USS Verdi (SP-979) was a United States Navy patrol vessel in commission from 1917 to 1918. Verdi was built as a private motorboat of the same name in 1909 by the Charles L. Seabury Company and the Gas Engine and Power Company at Morris Heights in the Bronx, New York. She was the property of Walter J. Green of Utica, New York, and home-ported at Clayton, New York, on the St. Lawrence River when the U.S. Navy acquired her from Green on 30 June 1917 for use as a section patrol boat during World War I. She was commissioned as USS Verdi (SP-979) on 10 August 1917. Assigned to the 9th Naval District, Verdi patrolled on the Great Lakes for the rest of World War I. Verdi was returned to Green on 4 December 1918. She remained in civilian use until 31 July 1935, when she became stranded in the St. Lawrence River about 500 feet (150 meters) off Watch Island, New York, and became a total loss.
