Calumet Island

Grindstone Island is the fourth largest of the Thousand Islands in the St. Lawrence River and the second largest of the American islands in the St. Lawrence. The island lies near Lake Ontario and is part of the United States. In particular, the island is part of the Town of Clayton in Jefferson County, New York. The island contains Potters Beach, a private vineyard, summer gift shops, four active beef farms, historic but now abandoned farmlands, and private non-government conservation lands owned by the Thousand Island Land Trust (TILT). New York State's last operating one-room school was on the island and closed in 1989. The current number of year-round households on the island is ten, however the population climbs to 700 people during the summer months.

Grindstone Island Upper Schoolhouse is a historic one-room school building located on Grindstone Island, Clayton, Jefferson County, New York. It was built in 1885, and is a 1 1/2-story, three bay by one bay, frame building on a granite foundation. The building includes a vestibule and small teachers apartment. Also on the property is a contributing well pump. It operated until 1989, making it the last one-room school in operation in New York State.: 5–6 It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Canoe-Picnic Point State Park is a 70-acre (0.28 km2) state park located on Grindstone Island in the St. Lawrence River. The park is within the bounds of the Town of Clayton in Jefferson County, New York. The park is 1 of 80 New York State Parks that are in the path of totality for the 2024 solar eclipse, with the park experiencing 3 minutes and 20 seconds of totality.

USS Verdi (SP-979) was a United States Navy patrol vessel in commission from 1917 to 1918. Verdi was built as a private motorboat of the same name in 1909 by the Charles L. Seabury Company and the Gas Engine and Power Company at Morris Heights in the Bronx, New York. She was the property of Walter J. Green of Utica, New York, and home-ported at Clayton, New York, on the St. Lawrence River when the U.S. Navy acquired her from Green on 30 June 1917 for use as a section patrol boat during World War I. She was commissioned as USS Verdi (SP-979) on 10 August 1917. Assigned to the 9th Naval District, Verdi patrolled on the Great Lakes for the rest of World War I. Verdi was returned to Green on 4 December 1918. She remained in civilian use until 31 July 1935, when she became stranded in the St. Lawrence River about 500 feet (150 meters) off Watch Island, New York, and became a total loss.

Murray Isle is an island in the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River in the U.S. state of New York. The island lies in the Town of Clayton, near its border with the Town of Orleans, in the northern part of Jefferson County. Today, Murray Isle is the site of many summer cottages. While the record is unclear, it is believed that the first cottage on Murray Isle was built in 1860. The structure, a simple log cabin, was owned by Daniel Sherman. By 1880, the island had four cottages, all located upriver, on the northern portion of the island. Murray was formerly known as Hemlock Island due to the presence of that variety of tree, but the name was changed in the late 18th century to Murray Hill Park after the Murray Hill area of New York City when the island was developed and lots sold off. The development was never finished. The name was shortened to its present form some time later. The Murray Hill Hotel was built on the island in the late 19th century, and served tourists who came over on steam ships from Clayton, NY through the early 20th century when it closed and was ultimately torn down. Today a community house and post office sit on the former site of the hotel. The post office operates yearly from June until September. An annual "Fish Fry" is hosted on the grounds of the community house every summer; the event takes place on the first Saturday of July. Murray Isle is bounded by channels on both its eastern and western tips. The channel on the island's eastern tip, known as "The Narrows" separates Murray Isle and Wellesley Island. A small islet known as Wintergreen Island (formerly Whippoorwill Island) is connected by a footbridge along the southern length of Murray.

Sugar Island is located in the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario. It is roughly 35 acres (140,000 m2) of undeveloped island wilderness. In the 1950s the local nautical charts changed the name from St. Lawrence Island to the name the island has now, Sugar Island. In the late 19th century the island was inhabited the year round by a farming family, and the maple trees were tapped for syrup, which gave Sugar Island its current name. In 1900, the American Canoe Association formed a committee to obtain a permanent site on the St. Lawrence River to hold its annual meet. On July 18, 1901, Sugar Island, then known as St. Lawrence island, was purchased for $1,000 on land set aside for use of the Mississaguas of Alnwick Indians. Starting in 1903 they hosted the annual meet for camping, competition and camaraderie between canoeists. Canoeists, kayakers and sailors come to visit from around the world and participate in longstanding competitions. The national encampment has been held every year since 1903 with the exception of Turtle Island in Lake George in 1926, no meets in 1944 and 1945, and one National Encampment in the Midwest in the 1970s. Members and their guests traveled for many years by train to Clayton, New York, or Gananoque, Canada, and paddled or traveled by ferry to the island. The ferry "Yenneck" serviced the island for twenty-five years. For many years the only buildings on the island were the mess hall, the storehouse, and the ice house, the latter a favorite gathering place of the younger generation. After World War II a limited number of cabin sites were made available to members. There is still no electricity or phone service on the island.

Gananoque Water Aerodrome (TC LID: CGN1) was located on the St. Lawrence River near Gananoque, Ontario, Canada.

The Gananoque River is a river in Leeds and Grenville United Counties in Eastern Ontario, Canada. The river is in the Atlantic Ocean drainage basin and is a left tributary of the Saint Lawrence River. The name "Gananoque" has been spelled many different ways over the years and so has been assigned several different interpretations, including "place of health" or "meeting place". The Gananoque River Waterways Association was founded in 1963 to include "...property owners, resort operators, fishermen, farmers, trappers and all other interested parties..." for the purpose of getting together to "Protect wild life, arrange for equitable water levels, facilitate navigation, maintain health standards through the purity of the water [and] confer with officials in regard to definite arrangements for maintaining and improving the waterway for everyone's use."

CJGM-FM (99.9 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Gananoque, Ontario, Canada. This is the first commercial radio station in Gananoque and it serves the Thousand Islands and parts of Kingston. The station is branded as 99.9 myFM, and features an adult contemporary format. It is owned by My Broadcasting Corporation, with radio studios in The Pump House on Kate Street.

The Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, formerly known as the OLG Casino Thousand Islands, the Thousand Islands Charity Casino and the Thousand Islands Casino, is a small casino located in Gananoque, Ontario. It is owned by Great Canadian Entertainment. The casino was announced in 2000, and opened in June 2002. In 2016, Great Canadian took over operation of the casino.

Gananoque ( GAN-ə-NOK-way) is a town in the Leeds and Grenville area of Ontario, Canada. The town had a population of 5,383 year-round residents in the 2021 Canadian Census, as well as summer residents sometimes referred to as "Islanders" because of the Thousand Islands in the Saint Lawrence River, Gananoque's most important tourist attraction. The Gananoque River flows through the town and the St. Lawrence River serves as the southern boundary of the town.

Gananoque railway station in Gananoque, Ontario, Canada is served by Via Rail trains running from Toronto to Ottawa. The station is an unstaffed but heated shelter.
