West Haven, Connecticut

West Haven station is a commuter rail station on the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, located in West Haven, Connecticut. The station was built on Sawmill Road between Hood Terrace and Railroad Avenue, in the Elm Street-Wagner Place neighborhood. West Haven has 660 parking spaces in on-site lots (with the possibility of 300–400 more in a parking garage in a refurbished industrial building north of the station if warranted by future demand) as well as bicycle facilities. The station is accessible. West Haven has full service on the New Haven Line, as well as from the handful of Shore Line East trains which run past New Haven to Stamford.After a decade of studies, planning, and controversy over the station site, ground was broken for the station on November 10, 2010. The $80 million project included the station, with two 12-car platforms, a glass station building, and an overhead pedestrian bridge, as well as the restoration of the formerly abandoned fourth mainline track through the station. It is only the second new station on the line in a century, after Fairfield Metro in 2011. The station opened to passengers on August 18, 2013.Shore Line East service at the station was suspended indefinitely on March 16, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Notre Dame High School (NDWH) is a private, Roman Catholic, all-male college preparatory school located in West Haven, Connecticut, a coastal suburb of New Haven, Connecticut.

The Ward-Heitman House is a historic house museum at 277 Elm Street in West Haven, Connecticut. The house displays furnishings and objects that might have been used by families that lived here in more than 250 years of residential occupancy. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

West Haven High School is a secondary school located in West Haven, Connecticut, which educates students in grades 9–12. The mascot of West Haven is the Blue Devil.

West Haven Green is the town green of the New England town of West Haven, Connecticut. The green is bordered by Church Street on the south, Savin Avenue on the west, Main Street on the north and Campbell Avenue on the east. The green and surrounding buildings are part of the West Haven Green Historic District. There is a sidewalk around the perimeter of the green and paths into the green from the corners and mid-blocks meeting at the center. The dominant structure on the green is the Congregational Church (built 1859). Behind the church is a cemetery. There are also several war memorial markers, a bandstand, and a flagpole around the perimeter of the green. Wooden benches are scattered at various locations on the green. A stone chess table with seating is located near Main Street. At the north end of Main Street is a stone monument to West Haven fire fighters, on top of which is a large bell. Near the east end of Savin Avenue is a large boulder commemorating British Adjutant William Campbell, who saved the life of Reverend Noah Williston during the British invasion (July 5, 1779) of West Haven in the American Revolutionary War. A modern octagonal bandstand is located north of the center of the block of Church Street.Buildings on Campbell Street (named after William Campbell) are mainly two-story commercial buildings with store fronts on the first floor that were built in the 20th century. One exception is a three-story brick Italianate structure on the corner of Main Street and Campbell Avenue. The Town Hall (built in 1969) is also located at the intersection of Main and Campbell. Savin Avenue consists mainly of early 20th-century single-family homes, one exception being a red-brick funeral home in the Colonial Revival style. On the west corner of Church Street across from the green are two 19th-century wood-frame houses. The rest of the block is taken up by the Christ Episcopal Church and its associated structures and sites.The West Haven Green Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 11, 2000. In addition to the green itself, the district includes 20 of 23 buildings on and around the green as contributing properties. Two of the memorials on the Green dating from the early 20th century (the World War I memorial and the Firefighters' Monument) are also considered to be contributing properties.

WNHU (88.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a variety format. Licensed to West Haven, Connecticut, United States, the station serves the New Haven area. The station is owned by the University of New Haven. The WNHU studios moved to its current home on Ruden Street into the Lois Evalyn Bergami Broadcast Media Center in the year 2015. Its location on Ruden Street includes a production space for live and recorded programming, a server room, staff offices and a student lounge. WNHU is managed by a 10-person student leadership team. Positions include Station Manager, Promotions Director, Aircheck Director, WNHU Program Director, Director of Fundraising, Program/Music Director and Productions Director. The University of New Haven's Communications department started to work with the radio station for students to have access to the station. The Station operates as a lab for student learning, and as a source of culturally diverse programming for the communities we serve. In January 2016, Bruce Barber was hired as General Manager of the station. WNHU is broadcast on 88.7 FM. WNHU is considered the best college radio station in the state of Connecticut according to the New Haven Advocate, which has awarded the station "Best College Radio Station" for over 6 consecutive years. WNHU is known for eclectic programming with shows ranging from new music, rock, gospel, funk, and talk shows to specialty formats such as polka and Irish music. The station was founded as a student club in 1970, and features an eclectic mix of music and conversation from over 100 volunteer student and community deejays. Unlike many college or community radio stations where DJs change frequently, some WNHU personalities have hosted shows for years, most of whom are UNH students and alumni.On June 4, 2013, WNHU broadcast an 11-hour live set featuring DJs of the founding decade of the station. This day-long event, which was held from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. EST was in celebration of the station's 40th anniversary. WNHU first broadcast live on the air on June 4, 1973.

The University of New Haven (UNH) is a private university in West Haven, Connecticut. Between its main campus in West Haven and its graduate school campus in Orange, Connecticut, the university grounds cover about 122 acres of land. The university is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference and its mascot is a charger, a medieval war horse.

The Union School is a historic school building at 174 Center Street in West Haven, Connecticut. Built in 1890, when the area was still part of Orange, it was West Haven's first brick school building, serving as a grammar school and high school for generations of local students. Now a senior living facility, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium is a sport stadium in West Haven, Connecticut. The facility is primarily used by the University of New Haven athletic teams, as well as the University of New Haven Chargers Marching Band.The field turf is not the normal selection of green, but is instead blue. The selection of blue—a non-traditional field color—was made to generate excitement and publicity while the school was re-establishing its college football program. As of the 2012 season, New Haven is only one of five college programs to have the field color other than the traditional greenThe first college football game played at the stadium was a 25–18 loss to the Bentley University Falcons on September 26, 2009. The stadium is also used for local high school sporting events and other community events. The University of New Haven used DellaCamera Stadium for its Spring Commencement until May 2011, where the University moved the ceremony to the Oakdale Theatre.

The Cove River is a stream in New Haven County in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It rises in Orange and flows through West Haven before discharging into Long Island Sound at Sea Bluff Beach by Bradley Point. Dams along the river form the Maltby Lakes, reservoirs of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority, as well as Phipps Lake. A project was initiated in 2021 to replace the flood gates near the mouth to regulate water flow into the salt march upstream. This project also includes a new aluminum truss pedestrian bridge at the mouth to connect Bradley Point Park and Sea Bluff Beach.

Quigley Stadium is a stadium in West Haven, Connecticut, United States. It was originally built in 1947 from surplus bleachers that were once installed on flat bed light rail cars and towed alongside the Yale crew team as they competed off of nearby Orange Avenue. Maurice P. Quigley purchased these surplus bleachers off the rail cars and had them hauled approximately 1 mile to the current site which gave the field a capacity of 2,000 people. It opened on June 20, 1947. It was originally called Exhibition Stadium but subsequently renamed for Maurice P. Quigley, who built the ballpark and owned the semi-professional West Haven Sailors who played there, as well as Ship's Tavern in West Haven, a popular hangout among sports fans. Quigley sold the ballpark to the Town of West Haven in 1951. It is primarily used for baseball and was home to the West Haven Yankees and West Haven A's. The bleachers were razed in 1987. It is the current home of the Notre Dame (West Haven) High School baseball team and West Haven Twilight League amateur baseball league.

WYBC (1340 AM) is a radio station operating on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The station is owned by Yale Broadcasting Company, Inc.; however, it is programmed by Sacred Heart University under a time brokerage agreement. WYBC is a public radio station, airing a news/talk format.
