Rochestown

Rochestown railway station was on the Cork, Blackrock and Passage Railway in Rochestown, County Cork, Ireland.

St Michael's Gaelic Football Club is a Gaelic football club in Cork City, Ireland. The club was formed in 1951 after a discussion in The Leaping Salmon Public House in Blackrock near Cork. At that time some of the Blackrock hurlers played football with different city teams and it was decided to enter a football team from Blackrock, thus keeping the players together. A formal meeting was held and St Michael's Gaelic Football Club was established.

Mahon (Irish: Machain) is an area to the south-eastern side of Cork, Ireland. Mahon gets its name from Lough Mahon, a wide stretch of the upper section of Cork Harbour. It was once a semi-rural peninsula, but from the late 20th century was subject to residential development, and has a number of housing estates and developments. The area was generally known as the Ring of Mahon, and is the site of Ringmahon House (formerly occupied by James Murphy of Murphy's Brewery and later by Ben Dunne of Dunnes Stores). Mahon is within the Cork South-Central Dáil constituency.

St. Francis College Rochestown, sometimes known as Rochestown College or abbreviated as Roco, is an all-boys secondary school in Rochestown, Cork, Ireland. The school's foundation dates to 1884 when a friary (monastery) was formed by the Franciscan Order.

The Mater Private Hospital (Irish: Ospidéal Príobháideach an Mater) is a private hospital in Cork, Ireland. It is associated with Mater Private Hospital in Dublin.

Ringmahon House is a 19th-century house in the Mahon and Blackrock area of Cork in Ireland. Built c. 1820 by James Murphy (of Murphy's Brewery), the house was owned by Ben Dunne (of Dunnes Stores) in the mid-20th century. As of the 21st century, the house is owned by Cork City Council and is used as a school by Mahon Youthreach. The grounds of Ringmahon House contain the former gate tower of an earlier castle. The remains of this structure, known as Ringmahon Castle, are included in the Record of Protected Structures maintained by Cork City Council.

The Bessborough Mother & Baby Home, (also known as the Bessborough Sacred Heart Home) was a home for mothers and their children that operated in Blackrock, County Cork, Ireland, from 1922 until 1998. It was included in an investigation by the Irish government following the discovery of hundreds of bodies at Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, County Galway. The Home was run by Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, a religious order of Catholic nuns. The home was one of the largest in Ireland, with 9,768 women and 8938 children being admitted. Forced adoptions are recorded in the report, including children who were adopted to families in the United States in return for cash donations, while over 900 children died. Their bodies were buried in unmarked graves.

The Jack Lynch Tunnel (Irish: Tollán Sheáin Uí Loingsigh) is an immersed tube tunnel and an integral part of the N40 road network in Cork, Ireland. It is named after former Taoiseach, Jack Lynch, a native of Cork. It takes the road under the River Lee. North of the tunnel, the ring-road joins the M8 motorway to Dublin (north) and N8 road to the city centre (west), with the N25 commencing east to Waterford. The tunnel was completed in May 1999, and carried nearly 40,000 vehicles per day as of 2005. This number rose further as the N40 ring-road's upgrades progressed, with the opening of the Kinsale road roundabout flyover in 2006 and subsequent upgrades to the Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road Roundabouts. Traffic in 2016 was approximately 63,000 vehicles a day up from 59,000 in 2013.The tunnel has two cells, each with two traffic lanes and two footpaths, and a central bore for use in an emergency only. Pedestrians and cyclists are expressly forbidden from using the tunnel. The exclusion of cyclists has been somewhat controversial as the feeder road is a dual-carriageway and so is open to cyclists, but the by-law is applied because of space limitations and the obvious danger of cyclists in an enclosed tunnel.

Lough Mahon (Irish: Loch Machan) is a sea lough in the north-western part of Cork Harbour. Its area is about 12 km2 (5 sq mi).Several Cork suburbs, such as Mahon, Douglas, Rochestown, Blackrock and Ballinlough as well as the town of Passage West are on its southern and western shores. To the north is Little Island and to the east Great Island. Lough Mahon falls within the Cork Harbour "Special Protection Area", as designated under the EU Birds Directive, and is an important habitat for a number of bird species and migrating waders in particular.

Blackrock Castle is a castellated fortification located at Blackrock, about 2 km from Cork city centre on the banks of the River Lee in Ireland. Originally developed as a coastal defence fortification in the 16th century to protect upper Cork Harbour and port, the site now houses an observatory, visitor centre and restaurant.

The Dunkettle Interchange is a major road junction in Glanmire, to the east of Cork City, Ireland. It forms a junction between the M8, N25 and the N40. The junction is currently a four-arm signalised junction with a flyover, allowing traffic travelling in an east–west axis to avoid having to use the roundabout. On average, 95,000 vehicles use the junction on a daily basis. As of 2018, a further civil engineering upgrade to make the interchange work on a freeflow basis was being undertaken by Sisk, with a proposed completion date of 2022.It should not be confused with the Dunkettle Roundabout which is around 750m to the west.

Dunkettle railway station was a railway station to the east of Cork City in Ireland. Originally part of the Cork and Youghal Railway, it opened on 10 November 1859 and was closed in 1966.In the early 21st century, it was proposed to reopen a station at Dunkettle on the Cobh line of the Cork Suburban Rail project. These plans were refused planning permission in 2009.
