Shanks is an unincorporated community in Hampshire County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. According to the 2000 census, the Shanks community has a population of 806.Shanks is located east of Romney along the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50) on the eastern flanks of South Branch Mountain. The community is centered on the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Allen Hill Road (County Route 50/7). Shanks Roadside Park is located directly to its west on U.S. Route 50. The North Fork Little Cacapon River runs through the community. Abraham Shank, an early postmaster and local merchant, gave the community his name.

Augusta is an unincorporated community in central Hampshire County, West Virginia, United States. It is located along the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50) at the northern terminus of Augusta-Ford Hill Road (County Route 7) between Shanks and Pleasant Dale, east of Romney. According to the 2000 census, the Augusta community has a population of 4,728.

French's Mill is a historic grist mill at the junction of Augusta-Ford Hill and Fairground Roads in Augusta, West Virginia. Its main building is a three-story wood-frame building with a metal roof, asphalt siding, and a concrete foundation. It was built in 1911 on the site of a c. 1890s grist mill that was destroyed by fire. The mill, which was originally water-powered, was converted to operate by electric power in 1949, and ceased operations in 2000. It was also updated in the mid-20th century to accommodated different types of grain, illustrating the evolutionary change of these industrial facilities.The mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.French's Mill is currently owned by the Croucher family who intend to renovate the historic mill and showcase an art gallery on the first floor, a model train exhibit on the second floor, and a wildlife collection of furs and pelts on the third floor. The family currently operates an on-site thrift store with all proceeds going toward the renovation of the mill.

Bearwallow Creek is a 4.3-mile-long (6.9 km) tributary stream of Tearcoat Creek, itself a tributary of the North River, making it a part of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay watersheds. Bearwallow Creek is located in Hampshire County, West Virginia. It rises on Chestnut Oak Ridge, from which it flows southwest along the ridge's eastern flanks and then begins its course southeast along Bear Wallow Hollow Road (County Route 50/14) and U.S. Route 50 until its confluence with Tearcoat Creek at Pleasant Dale.

Hampshire High School is a public school in Romney, West Virginia that serves grades 9 through 12 and is a part of Hampshire County Schools under the auspices of the Hampshire County Board of Education. It is the only high school in Hampshire County. Hampshire High School is located on Trojan Way (West Virginia Secondary Route 50/47) off of the Northwestern Turnpike (U.S. Route 50) near Romney. The school currently has approximately 800 students enrolled, with that number slightly declining. It also employs approximately 70 faculty members. Hampshire High School's current principal is Adam Feazell.

Barnes Mill is an unincorporated community in Hampshire County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is located along the Little Cacapon River on Little Cacapon River Road (West Virginia Secondary Route 50/9) north of Frenchburg. The original "Barnes Mill", from which the community takes its name, was built here on the Little Cacapon in 1813. The community was served by a post office in the 19th century. Barnes Mill was formerly known as Barnes Mills.

Hampshire County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 23,093. Its county seat is Romney, West Virginia's oldest town (1762). The county was created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1754, from parts of Frederick and Augusta Counties (Virginia) and is the state's oldest county. The county lies in both West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle and Potomac Highlands regions. Hampshire County is part of the Winchester, VA-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Little Cacapon Mountain (locally kə-KAY-pən or locally KAY-pən) is a mountain ridge of the Ridge-and-valley Appalachians in Hampshire County, West Virginia, United States. The mountain takes its name from the Little Cacapon River, a Potomac River tributary that lies on its western flanks. Little Cacapon Mountain reaches its highest point of 1,575 feet (480 m) in the vicinity of Barnes Mill. It spans from the Frenchburg area, where it is joined by Chestnut Oak Ridge, to the Slanesville Pike where Crooked Run forms a gap between Little Cacapon Mountain and Queens Ridge near Higginsville.

Hoy is an unincorporated community in Hampshire County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is located southwest of Slanesville and northwest of Hanging Rock at the intersection of Offutt School Road (West Virginia Secondary Route 45/8) and Hoy Road (West Virginia Secondary Route 45/13). A series of hills separates the community from the North River which lies to its east. Hoy once operated its own post office and elementary school before consolidation of both with Slanesville.

Scanlon Farm (also known as the Scanlon Log House) is a late 19th-century loghouse and farm overlooking Three Churches Run east of the unincorporated community of Three Churches, West Virginia. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 3, 1988.

Three Churches is an unincorporated community in Hampshire County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The town is located north of Romney along Jersey Mountain Road (West Virginia Secondary Route 5) at a crossroads with Three Churches Hollow Road (West Virginia Secondary Route 5/4). Originally known as Jersey Mountain, Three Churches was renamed for the three historic white wooden churches located there: Mount Bethel Church, Mount Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, and Branch Mountain United Methodist Church. The Three Churches Post Office is no longer in service.

Ruckman is an unincorporated community farming community in Hampshire County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Ruckman is located at the intersections of Ash Ruckman Road (WV Secondary Route 7/4) with J.C. Ruckman (WV Secondary Route 12/6) and Edgar Loy (WV Secondary Route 7/7) Roads south of Augusta and northeast of Kirby. It is named for the Ruckman family that is still prevalent in the area. Ruckman's post office is no longer in operation.
