Emerson Place

Watertown is a city in, and the county seat of, Jefferson County, New York, United States. It is approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of the Thousand Islands, along the Black River about 5 miles (8 km) east of where it flows into Lake Ontario. The city is bordered by the town of Watertown to the south, east, and west, and is served by the Watertown International Airport and the Watertown Daily Times newspaper. In the middle of Watertown lies the Public Square Historic District, which was built in 1805 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1984. Watertown is located 13 miles (21 kilometers) southwest of the U.S. Army base at Fort Drum; it is the service and shopping destination for personnel there and their families. As of the 2020 United States Census, the city has 24,685 residents, making it the largest city in the North Country. The area was first surveyed in 1795, and was settled in March 1800 due to the abundant hydropower the Black River provided. The city was designated as the county seat of Jefferson County when it was split off from Oneida County in 1805. Watertown was incorporated as a village in 1816, and became a city in 1869. By then, it was booming as an industrial center for Upstate New York. By the early 20th century the city was said to have more millionaires per capita than any other city in the nation. During the mid 1960s, Chicago attracted many of the younger residents from the area along with their businesses, leading to the demolition of many historic buildings and a steady decline in population. By 2000, the city had lost over 7,000 residents. The city serves as the commercial and financial center for the North Country. Located 30 miles (48 km) from the Canadian border, shopping by Canadian visitors is important to Watertown's economy. The city also receives numerous tourists and summer residents. Watertown, South Dakota, was named in the city's honor.

Saint Paul's Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church located at Watertown in Jefferson County, New York. The church was built in 1889-1891 and is Romanesque Revival–style edifice. It is a one-storey, asymmetrically massed building of random course ashlar stone of light grey color. It features a three-story square stone tower with a crenellated top and round battlements at the corners and square ones in the center.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The Public Square Historic District is a historic district that serves as an open mall in the center of Watertown, New York, containing 58 buildings, one contributing site, and three contributing objects. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 7, 1984.

WLOT-LP, UHF analog channel 46, was a low-power, Class A television station licensed to Watertown, New York, United States. It was relayed on WBQZ-LP (channel 34) in the area to the northwest of Watertown. The stations were owned by Anthony DiMarco.

The Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Watertown, New York was erected in 1891 to commemorate local citizens who fought in the Civil War. The monument rests upon the former village green, which has been located there since 1805.

The Paddock Arcade is a 19th-century shopping mall located in Watertown, New York. Built in 1850, it is the second oldest covered shopping mall and the oldest continuously running enclosed shopping mall in the United States. Since it has seen uninterrupted use since it opened in 1850, it carries the distinction of being the country's oldest, continuously operating covered shopping mall.: 3–5  The Paddock Arcade was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

The Woolworth Building is a historic building in Watertown, New York. It is a contributing building in the Public Square Historic District. Plans for the Woolworth Building were begun in 1916 by Frank W. Woolworth, the founder of the Woolworth's chain of department stores.

Watertown Masonic Temple is a historic building and former Masonic hall located in Watertown in Jefferson County, New York. It was constructed in 1914 as a meeting hall for a local Masonic lodge and is a three-story building in the Neoclassical style, with a masonry and steel structure. The front of the building features a large prostyle temple front with six Doric columns supporting a triangular pediment.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 In 2003, the Masonic Hall Association decided to sell the building, citing the cost of maintaining the structure, and declining membership for its decision.In 2017, a plan to renovate the building as a performing arts center was included in a ten million dollar New York State Empire State Development Corporation revitalization grant.

Paddock Mansion is a historic home located at Watertown in Jefferson County, New York. Since 1922, it has been the headquarters of the Jefferson County Historical Society. It was built in 1876 and is a 2+1⁄2-story brick structure on a high basement in the Stick / Eastlake style. It features a 3-story tower on the southeast corner and the eaves, gables, balconies, and front porch are supported by elaborate turned millwork and chamfered brackets and posts.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Jefferson County Courthouse Complex is a courthouse complex and national historic district located at Watertown in Jefferson County, New York. The district includes three contributing buildings; the courthouse building (1862), Clerk's Office (1883–1884) and Surrogate's Office (1905). The courthouse building is a two-story, red brick structure with limestone trim. It features a three-story tower on the northwest corner. It was designed by architect Horatio Nelson White.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Thompson Park is an urban park designed by John Charles Olmsted (The nephew and adopted son of Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed Central Park) located in Watertown, New York. It was donated to the city by industrialist John C. Thompson in 1916.The park features a zoo and a 18-hole golf club as well as a monument to soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division. The monument was designed, built and unveiled on July 1, 2016, by the North Country community.

Trinity Episcopal Church and Parish House is a historic Episcopal church located at Watertown in Jefferson County, New York. The church was built in 1889-1890 and is massive, rambling Richardsonian Romanesque–style edifice built of random coursed, ashlar stone with a water table and foundation of similar stone. The parish house was built in 1912–1913.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
