Clomantagh Castle is a 15th-century tower house located near Freshford, County Kilkenny, in Ireland. Originally constructed in the 1430s, additional buildings and outbuildings were added in the subsequent centuries - including a connected 19th century farmhouse. Carvings on the castle's walls include a Sheela na gig relief (a symbolic pagan nude).Situated on lands owned by the Earls of Ormond, on the death of Pierce 'Ruadh' Butler, 8th Earl of Ormond in 1539, the castle was inherited by his son, Richard Butler, 1st Viscount Mountgarret. It remained in the hands of the Butlers of Mountgarret through the 16th and 17th centuries, until its confiscation following the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland.The castle was subject to renovations in the late 20th century (which received an award from the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland), and is now managed as a holiday rental property by the Irish Landmark Trust.

Crannagh (Irish: Crannach, meaning 'Abounding in Trees, or Woodland'), sometimes written Cranagh or Granagh, is a barony in the north western part of County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is one of 12 baronies in County Kilkenny. The size of the barony is 210.8 square kilometres (81.4 sq mi). There are 19 civil parishes in Crannagh, made up of 182 townlands. The chief town Freshford, with highest point at Clomantagh Hill. Crannagh lies at the north west of the county, with the baronies of Galmoy and Fassadinin to the north (whose chief towns are Galmoy and Castlecomer), and the barony of the Kilkenny to the east (whose chief town is Kilkenny) and Shillelogher to the south (whose chief town is Bennettsbridge). It is buffers County Tipperary on the west. The R693 road crosses the barony.

Tullaroan is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Tullaroan in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1884 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Tullaroan is the most successful club in the history of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship.

Galmoy (Irish: Gabhalmhaigh, meaning 'plain of the Ghabhal [River Goul]') is a barony in the north western part of County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is one of 12 baronies in County Kilkenny. The size of the barony is 162.7 square kilometres (62.8 sq mi). There are 12 civil parishes in Galmoy. While it is named after the village of Galmoy, today the chief town of the barony is Urlingford. Galmoy barony lies at the north-western corner of the county between Fassadinin to the east (whose chief town is Castlecomer), and Crannagh to the south (whose chief town is Freshford). It is surrounded on two sides by counties Tipperary to the west and Laois to the north. The M8 Dublin/Cork motorway bisects the barony. It is situated 121 kilometres (75 mi) from Dublin city and 131 kilometres (81 mi) from Cork city. Galmoy is currently administered by Kilkenny County Council. The barony was part of in the historic kingdom of Osraige (Ossory).

Freshford (Irish: Achadh Úr, meaning 'fresh field') is a village and former town in the barony of Crannagh, County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is 13 km north-west of Kilkenny city. The village is in a civil parish of the same name.

Tullaroan (Irish: Tulach Ruáin, meaning 'Rowan's hill') is a village in the western part of County Kilkenny in the Slieveardagh Hills near the Tipperary border. Tullaroan is also the name of the local civil parish.

St. Lachtain's Church was built in 1731 in the village of Freshford, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The church is named after St. Lachtain who died in Donoughmore, County Cork,in 622. It is almost certain that a church was built on the present site soon after St Lachtain's death. During the period of Viking raiding of Ireland, St Lachtain's was robbed of its gold and silver ornaments and its books were burned. The arch bears an inscription in old Irish and translates into English as: A prayer for Niamh, daughter of Corc, and for Mathgamhan O Chearmaic for whom this church was made. A prayer for Gille Mocholmoc O Chearmaic for whom this church was made. A prayer for Gille Mocholmoc O Ceannucain who made it. St. Lachtain's church was rebuilt in 1100. The Hiberno-Romanesque porch and doorway being the only remaining part of the former structure. During St. Lachtain's time Freshford was a diocese and by 1225 a Bishop's palace for the diocese was built in nearby Uppercourt. The palace was used as a summer residence for over 300 years. The remainder of the present church was built in 1731 for the Church of Ireland. In the 19th century gates were placed in front of the main entrance to stop the locals from sharpening their knives on the stone doorway.

Johnstown (Irish: Baile Sheáin), historically known as Coorthafooka (Irish: Cúirt an Phúca), is a small town in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Bypassed in December 2008 by the M8, the town lies at the junction of the R639, the R502 and the R435 regional roads. It is the home of the Fenians GAA hurling club. Situated 121 kilometres (75 mi) from Dublin and 131 kilometres (81 mi) from Cork, it lies in the agricultural heartland of the southeast. The village of Johnstown was once part of the barony of Galmoy and was laid out in the early 1700s by the Hely family of Foulkscourt Castle. The Hely family were descended from Sir John Hely (died 1701), Chief Justice of the Irish Common Pleas.
