The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a collection of championship caliber golf courses, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., distributed across the state of Alabama, as part of investments by the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The Trail started with 378 holes at eight sites throughout the state, but has grown to 468 holes at eleven sites.

Shannon is a small unincorporated community located in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States, between Birmingham and northwest Hoover named after John James Shannon, a mine operator. A post office first opened under the name Shannon in 1915.

The Pyne Mine was a vertical shaft iron ore mine operated by the Woodward Iron Company and located near the Lacey's Chapel community outside Bessemer, Alabama, in Shades Valley. It was, along with Woodward's Songo Mine, one of only two shaft mines dug in the Birmingham District, and the last ore mine to operate in the region, closing in 1971.

Shades Mountain is a cuesta in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The mountain is bordered by Shades Crest Road to the west, Highway 150 to the south, Highway 280 to the east and Shades Creek to the north. It includes all of the neighborhood of Bluff Park in Hoover, where it summits, as well as portions of the cities of Homewood, Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook.

The Sloss Mines are a group of mines in southwestern Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. They were established by the Sloss Iron and Steel Company and its successor, the Sloss-Sheffield Iron and Steel Company, on the southern end of Red Mountain. The Sloss Iron and Steel Company itself was founded by James Sloss in 1881 as the Sloss Furnace Company. The Sloss Mines produced iron ore from 1882 until the 1960s. The ore that these mines produced were essential to the production of iron at the Sloss Furnaces, making them an important element in the formation of adjacent Birmingham and Bessemer as cities.An accident in January 1895 killed two people.Red Mountain Park is an urban park that runs 4.5 miles (7.2 km) from east to west along the mountain. Red Mountain Park now owns the Sloss No. 2 mine site. Park officials plan to open a portion, but not all, of the area that the mines operated on to the public. Although the entrances have for the most part been sealed, The Tenn Coal and Iron mines 10, 11, 13 and 14, located in Red Mountain Park, are planned for development into interactive visitor sites. In addition, walking trails on the former mining sites have been developed, as well as the preservation of a mine worker's cemetery and many historic mining structures.

WDJC-FM (93.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to Birmingham, Alabama. The station was one of the first commercial FM radio stations in the United States to exclusively feature Christian programming. Today the station programs contemporary Christian music. Owned by Crawford Broadcasting Company, WDJC-FM's transmitter tower is in Southwest Birmingham, and its studios are located in Homewood.

WQEN (103.7 FM, "103.7 the Q") is a radio station licensed to serve Trussville, Alabama, United States. The station is owned by San Antonio–based iHeartMedia. Other stations in the Birmingham market owned by iHeartMedia include WDXB (102.5 FM), WERC-FM (105.5 FM), WERC (960 AM), and WMJJ (96.5 FM). The station has studios at Beacon Ridge Tower in Birmingham (near Red Mountain) and its transmitter is on the west end of the Red Mountain range. It broadcasts a Top 40 (CHR) station to Birmingham and north-central Alabama.

WMJJ (96.5 FM, "Magic 96.5") is a radio station licensed to Birmingham, Alabama. Owned by San Antonio-based iHeartMedia, it broadcasts an adult contemporary format. This format temporarily switches to Christmas music for the months of November and December. Its studios are located at Beacon Ridge Tower in Birmingham, and its transmitter is on the west end of the Red Mountain range. The station carries a mainstream urban format, 104.1 The Beat, as well as K-Love, on HD Radio subchannels. They are simulcast in analog by 104.1 W281AB and 96.1 W241AI respectively.

WDXB (102.5 FM) is a country music formatted radio station licensed to Pelham, Alabama, and serving the Birmingham metropolitan area and north-central Alabama. The radio studios and offices are at Beacon Ridge Tower in Birmingham (near Red Mountain). The station calls itself "102.5 The Bull" and is owned by San Antonio–based iHeartMedia WDXB has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 90,000 watts. The transmitter is in Red Mountain Park in Southwest Birmingham, off Venice Road. WDXB broadcasts using HD Radio technology. The HD-2 digital subchannel carries iHeart's Black Information Network which is fed by 225 watt FM translator W224CK at 92.7 MHz in Vestavia Hills.

Lipscomb is a city in western Jefferson County, Alabama. It is part of the Birmingham, Alabama, metropolitan area. At the 2020 census, the population was 2,086. It does not have its own U.S. Post Office or ZIP code, instead sharing the Bessemer ZIP code (35020).

Hunter Street Baptist Church (established 1907) is a Baptist Church located in Hoover, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham. It is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. As of 2018, the church has a membership of approximately 4,500. The church is known for its motto "Hunter Street is not a building, but a people; people committed to God and to each other." The Pastor, Buddy Gray, preaches from the Bible. Adults grow in faith in Small groups and Bible studies. The Arts Academy offers music lessons, kids can play sports, and young children learn in Weekday Education. Dr. Buddy Gray is the senior pastor, having served since 1986. Gray previously served as the church's youth pastor from 1978-1980 while he was a student at Samford University.
