Twelve Local Heroes

The Court Theatre is a professional theatre company based in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was founded in 1971 and located in the Christchurch Arts Centre from 1976 until the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake. It opened new premises in Addington in December 2011. It is currently New Zealand's largest theatre company, and is led by Chief Executive Barbara George and Artistic Director Daniel Pengelly.

The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora is a hub for arts, culture, education, creativity and entrepreneurship in Christchurch, New Zealand. It is located in the Gothic Revival former Canterbury College (now the University of Canterbury), Christchurch Boys' High School and Christchurch Girls' High School buildings, many of which were designed by Benjamin Mountfort. The centre is a national landmark and taonga as it is home to New Zealand's largest collection of category one heritage buildings with 21 of the 23 buildings covered by Heritage New Zealand listings. The centre, which is held in trust for the people of Canterbury and its visitors, has been undergoing a large restoration since it was badly damaged in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Buildings are progressively reopening to the public as they are strengthened and repaired and more than two-thirds of the buildings have reopened.

Townsend Observatory, owned and administered by the University of Canterbury, is part of the Arts Centre of Christchurch, New Zealand and was open on clear Friday evenings. The building collapsed in the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

Ravenscar House Museum is an art museum located in Christchurch, New Zealand, and operated by Canterbury Museum. It exhibits the collection of Christchurch philanthropists and art collectors Jim and Susan Wakefield, and opened to the public on 8 November 2021.

The Rolleston Statue is a white marble statue situated outside Canterbury Museum on Rolleston Avenue in Christchurch, New Zealand. It commemorates William Rolleston, who was Superintendent of the Canterbury Province from 1868 until 1877. The statue was unveiled on 26 May 1906 by Sir John Hall KCMG, Mayor of Christchurch and personal friend, who writes the "City Council arrived in carriages to Statue".The Rolleston Statue fell off its plinth in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake but was repaired in 2016.

Gloucester Street is a major urban street in central Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. It runs for approximately 4.9 kilometres (3.0 mi) from a junction with Rolleston Avenue, directly opposite Christ's College at its western end to the suburbs of Linwood and Avonside in the east. For the majority of its length it runs due west-east, with the section from the central city's eastern edge to Linwood veering to the northeast. The street lies parallel with and one block to the north of Worcester Street. The street's course is interrupted for one block by the Convention Centre Precinct. As it crosses Linwood Avenue, the street turns northeast and narrows, becoming a suburban arterial road. It then turns north, ending at the Avon River / Ōtākaro. A bridge, Dallington Bridge, crosses the river at this point, and the street continues as Gayhurst Road through a former residential area which was razed as a result of the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake.

The Registry Building belongs to the Christchurch Arts Centre in the Christchurch Central City of Christchurch, New Zealand. It is covered by a Category I registration by Heritage New Zealand that is separate to the Category I registration that covers the buildings in the western part of the block, and the Category II registration that applies to the former Student Union building. Designed by Collins and Harman, the Registry Building was constructed in 1916 and an extension was added ten years later. After the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, 22 of the historic buildings were red stickered (meaning no access was allowed at all). The Registry Building was the first one to be restored, and it reopened in July 2013.

The Canterbury Museum is a museum located in the central city of Christchurch, New Zealand, in the city's Cultural Precinct. The museum was established in 1867 with Julius von Haast – whose collection formed its core – as its first director. The building is registered as a "Historic Place – Category I" by Heritage New Zealand.

The Physics Room is a non-commercial contemporary art gallery in Christchurch, New Zealand, described as "one of the country's best-known contemporary experiential art spaces". It is primarily funded by Creative New Zealand, one of four contemporary art spaces thus funded since the mid-1990s (the others are the Blue Oyster Art Project Space, Artspace NZ, and Enjoy). The Gallery is overseen by a charitable trust governed by a Board of Trustees.The Physics Room began in 1992 as the South Island Art Projects, based at the Christchurch Arts Centre, which organised exhibitions in other galleries, published a newsletter, and hosted visiting artists and speakers. In 1996 the Physics Room Trust was formed, and opened a gallery and office in the former Canterbury College Physics? Room building. Since opening, it has facilitated exhibitions, publications, offsite projects and residencies that promote contemporary art and critical discourse. In 1999 it moved from the Arts Centre into a larger gallery space in the Old Post Office Building on 209 Tuam Street. The Christchurch earthquakes forced a temporary relocation to Sandyford Street in Sydenham under recently appointed director Stephen Cleland. In 2013 the gallery returned to 209 Tuam Street with new director Melanie Oliver, formerly of Enjoy and the Govett-Brewster Gallery. Since Oliver left in 2016 to become Senior Curator at the Dowse, the Physics Room has been run by Jamie Hanton, former director of the Blue Oyster in Dunedin. In January 2018 the gallery relocated to 49–59 Worcester Boulevard.

The Peacock Fountain was bought by the Christchurch Beautifying Society from money bequeathed by John Thomas Peacock, a trader, politician and philanthropist. The fountain was unveiled in 1911, moved to a new location some years later, and put into storage in 1949. After a $270,000 renovation, it was commissioned again in 1996, in its third location in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. It has an elaborate colour scheme and is a much photographed tourist attraction.

The Curator's House is a historic building in the Christchurch Botanic Garden, in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was built for the Curator of the Botanic Gardens in 1920 and it is now home to a restaurant, called The Curator's House.
