Fort George railway station

Ardersier (Scottish Gaelic: Àird nan Saor) is a small former fishing village in the Scottish Highlands on the Moray Firth near Fort George, between Inverness and Nairn. Its name may be an anglicisation of the Gaelic "Àird nan Saor", or "Headland of the joiners", one local legend being that carpenters working on the construction of ecclesiastical buildings on the other side of the Moray Firth were quartered here.Prior to the building of Fort George, a small fishing hamlet called Blacktown existed in the area of Fort George, with an economy based on small-scale commercial fishery. Its relocation eventually led to the creation of the village of Ardersier.

Moray Firth School was an independent school located at Gollanfield, between Inverness and Nairn, Scotland. It was open 2002–2010 and during that period was the only independent school in the Highland council area.

Inverness Airport (Scottish Gaelic: Port-adhair Inbhir Nis) (IATA: INV, ICAO: EGPE) is an international airport situated at Dalcross, 7 NM (13 km; 8.1 mi) north-east of the city of Inverness, Scotland. It is owned by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL). The airport is the main gateway for travellers to Inverness and the North of Scotland with a range of scheduled services throughout the United Kingdom, and various scheduled services to Continental Europe. Charter and freight flights operate throughout the UK and Europe. Latest figures state 946,391 passengers passed through the airport in 2019. The airport is also headquarters to Dalcross Handling which now operates across Scotland.

Gollanfield Junction was a railway station located at Gollanfield, to the west of Nairn, Scotland, (now in the Highland Council Area). Opened in 1855 by the Inverness and Nairn Railway, it was initially named Fort George after the military base nearby.In July 1899 the Highland Railway opened a direct branch to Fort George (which was actually sited in the village of Ardersier). With the opening of the branch, the station was renamed Gollanfield Junction. Passenger services on the branch were withdrawn in 1943 and it closed to all traffic in August 1958. The following year, the station was renamed Gollanfield by British Railways.Goods traffic at the station ceased in May 1964 and it was closed to passenger traffic on 3 May 1965 (along with all the other remaining stations between Nairn & Inverness) as a result of the Beeching Axe.Most of the buildings were subsequently demolished after closure, but the station house remain standing and is used as a private residence. A single line remains in use by passenger trains between Inverness, Elgin and Aberdeen.

The siege of Inverness (also known as the siege of Fort George) took place in February 1746 and was part of the Jacobite rising of 1745.

Highland Aviation offers flight training and aircraft maintenance, including Piper and Cessna Aeroplanes and Autogyro/Rotorsport Gyrocopters. Highland Aviation provides training towards the UK Part-FCL PPL(A), the UK Part-FCL LAPL(A) and the UK Gyrocopter PPL(G). It also provides training for the UK CAA IMC rating IR(R) and the night rating.In addition to these ratings Highland Aviation also provides beach landing courses and mountain flying training.

Fort George is a large 18th-century fortress near Ardersier, to the north-east of Inverness in the Highland council area of Scotland. It was built to control the Scottish Highlands in the aftermath of the Jacobite rising of 1745, replacing a Fort George in Inverness constructed after the 1715 Jacobite rising to control the area. The current fortress has never been attacked and has remained in continuous use as a garrison. The fortification is based on a star design; it remains virtually unaltered and nowadays is open to visitors with exhibits and facsimiles showing the fort's use at different periods, while still serving as an army barracks.

Inverness Airport railway station was opened on 2 February 2023. It is close to the site of the former Dalcross railway station, and is served by ScotRail services between Inverness and Aberdeen. It serves both the namesake airport and the nearby hamlet of Tornagrain.

Tornagrain (from the Scottish Gaelic Tòrr na Grèine meaning 'The Sunny Mound') is a hamlet and planned village in the Scottish Highlands, situated around 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Inverness. It falls within the Highland council area for local government purposes. Tornagrain lies 1.2 miles (2 km) south of Inverness (Dalcross) Airport; and 1.5 miles (2.5 km) east of Castle Stuart Golf Course which was developed in 2009 and hosted the Barclays Scottish Open Championship for the first time in 2011. Plans to expand Tornagrain into a community for more than 10,000 residents were submitted to planning authorities by the Moray Estate. Planning permission was granted for the building of 5,000 homes in September 2012. The development of the site will take place over many years. Developers claim Tornagrain is the first new town to be built in Scotland for more than 50 years.

Gollanfield is a village on the A96 road between Inverness and Nairn, in the Highland Council Area, Scotland.For 110 years, the village had a station on the railway between Inverness and Elgin. The original station opened in 1855 and was sited further west than the second station (opened in 1899) which was just east of the B9006 road. The station was moved so that it could be the junction site for a small railway to Ardersier (Fort George). The station was closed in May 1965, but the railway is still open.

Cromartyshire (Scottish Gaelic: Siorrachd Chromba) is a historic county in the Highlands of Scotland, comprising the medieval "old shire" around the county town of Cromarty and 22 enclaves and exclaves transferred from Ross-shire in the late 17th century. The largest part, six times the size of the old shire, is Coigach, northwest from Ullapool. In 1890, Cromartyshire was merged with Ross-shire into the administrative county of Ross and Cromarty, which in 1975 was merged into the new council area of Highland.

Croy (Gaelic: Crothaigh) is a village between Inverness and Nairn, in the Highland council area in Scotland. The village looks over the Moray Firth and is located a few miles from Inverness Airport. The estimated population of the village is 498 according to the adjusted 2011 census.
