Algiers expedition (1541)

Icosium (Ancient Greek: Ἰκόσιον, romanized: Ikósion) was a Berber city that was part of Numedia which became an important Roman colony and an early medieval bishopric (now a Latin titular see) in the casbah area of actual Algiers.

Harcha Hassan Arena is an indoor sporting arena located in Algiers, Algeria. The capacity of the arena is 8,000 spectators. It hosts indoor sporting events such as Handball, Basketball, Volleyball and hosts the home matches of GS Pétroliers. It also hosted many international competitions.

The Battle of Algiers was a campaign of urban guerrilla warfare carried out by the National Liberation Front (FLN) against the French Algerian authorities from late 1956 to late 1957. The conflict began with attacks by the FLN against the French forces followed by a terrorist attack on Algerian civilians in Algiers by a group of Pieds-Noirs (European settlers), aided by the police. Reprisals followed and the violence escalated, leading the French Governor-General to deploy the French Army in Algiers to suppress the FLN. Civilian authorities gave full powers to General Jacques Massu who, operating outside legal frameworks between January and September 1957, eliminated the FLN from Algiers. The use of torture, forced disappearances and illegal executions by the French later caused controversy in France.

The Government Palace (Arabic: قصر الحكومة, French: Palais du Gouvernement), known before 1962 as Gouvernement général, is the office of the Prime Minister of Algeria and a major public building in Algiers. At the time of its inauguration in 1933, with a surface of 33,000 m2, it was the largest administrative building of the entire French state.

The Algiers Central Post Office, (Arabic: بريد الجزائر المركزي, French: Grande Poste d'Alger) is an office building for postal services located at Alger Centre municipality in Algiers, Algeria. It was designed by architect Jules Voinot and Marius Toudoire. and was constructed in 1910. It is Algeria's largest post office building, In 2015, the state turned it into a museum.

Algiers station (French: Gare d'Alger, Arabic: محطة قطار الجزائر) is a railway station located in the city of Algiers, at the port, sea front and the Kasbah of Algiers. The inhabitants of downtown Algiers and the Kasbah and its doors take the train from this station to go to other points of Algiers and Algeria. The station of Algiers is considered as the central station of the city of Algiers and the rest of the country.

The Théâtre National Algérien Mahieddine Bachtarzi, formerly known as the Algiers Opera House, is a historic building in Algiers, Algeria. It was built from 1850 to 1853. It was designed by architects Charles Frédéric Chassériau and Justin Ponsard in the Baroque Revival style. After it caught fire in 1883, it was rebuilt.

Bab Azoun ("Gate of Grief") is the name of a city gate of Algiers. The rue Bab Azoun which runs parallel to the boulevard de la Republique and crosses the rue Bab El Oued in the city center.

The University of Algiers (Arabic:جامعة الجزائر – بن يوسف بن خـدة ), commonly called the Algiers 1 University, it is the largest, oldest and most prestigious university in Algeria. It is headquartered in Algiers, the national capital.Emerging from a series of independent institutions in the 19th century, it was organized as a university in 1909 and profoundly reorganized in 2009. It pays tribute to Benyoucef Benkhedda, considered one of the heroes of the Algerian independence process.

Sidi Ramadan Mosque (Arabic: مسجد سيدي رمضان) is a historic mosque in the city of Algiers. Founded in 1097, the mosque is located in the Casbah of Algiers. It has an area size of 400 square meters and the minaret reaches 32 meters high. The mosque is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Casbah of Algiers.

Safir Mosque (Arabic: مسجد سفير or Arabic: جامع سفير) is an old mosque in the city of Algiers, Algeria. It is located inside the UNESCO World Heritage inscribed medina quarter Casbah of Algiers. The design follows the Ottoman architectural style.

Serkadji Prison, formerly Barberousse Prison, is a high-security prison in Algiers, Algeria; in 1995, about two-thirds of the 1,500 prisoners detained there have been accused or convicted of terrorism.
