Cragin station

ITW David Speer Academy (colloquially, Speer Academy) is a public four-year charter high school in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. It is a part of the Noble Network of Charter Schools. It is named after David B. Speer, the former Chairman of Illinois Tool Works (ITW). The school opened in 2014.

Archbishop Weber High School was a U.S. Roman Catholic all-boys' high school in northwest Chicago, Illinois. Founded in September 1890 as St. Stanislaus College by Rev. Vincent Barzyński, it was the first Polish secondary school in Chicago. It was within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago.

Grand/Cicero is a commuter railroad station in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago and is 6.5 miles (10.5 km) away from Chicago Union Station, the eastern terminus of the line. As of 2018, Grand/Cicero is the 199th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 80 weekday boardings. The station is located at the corner of West Grand Avenue and North Cicero Avenue. Service to the station began on December 11, 2006. The station is served by the Milwaukee District West Line. Metra's North Central Service trains use these tracks but do not stop. Grand/Cicero station is closed on weekends, holidays, and after 6:30 P.M. As of December 12, 2022, Grand/Cicero is served as a flag stop by 16 trains (10 inbound, six outbound) on weekdays only. The opening of Grand/Cicero was accompanied by the closure of two other stations, Cragin and Hermosa. These stations were located nearby in residential neighborhoods. The station is also in the vicinity of a section of the Belt Railway of Chicago. Chicago's first Walmart, at 4650 West North Avenue, opened just south of this station in September 2006.

Charles A. Prosser Career Academy (formerly known as Charles A. Prosser Vocational High School) is a public 4–year vocational high school located in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Prosser opened in 1959 and is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district.

Hanson Park is a station on Metra's Milwaukee District West Line in the Hanson Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The station is 7.7 miles (12.4 km) away from Chicago Union Station, the eastern terminus of the line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Hanson Park is in zone B. As of 2018, Hanson Park is the 207th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 58 weekday boardings. Metra's North Central Service trains use these tracks but do not stop. As of December 12, 2022, Hanson Park is served as a flag stop by 15 trains (nine inbound, six outbound) on weekdays only. Parking for the station is available on both sides of Armitage Avenue between Major and Parkside Avenues. The station is sandwiched between Metra's main line and several holding tracks for freight trains bound for either Bensenville Yard or the Belt Railway of Chicago to the south of the station. Chicago Public School football games are held at Hanson Stadium, which sits north of the station. There is a bridge to the east of the station that carries Central Ave (5600 W.) To the far west of the station is the former (now abandoned) television factory for Zenith Electronics. Before this station was built, the area around it was mostly a gigantic railroad yard for the Milwaukee Road until circa 1970's when it was demolished and moved to Bensenville yard. However, the Glidden grain elevator, located east of North Central Ave., remained on the former site until the 2000s when it was demolished to make way for a new shopping complex, residential dwellings and government buildings. In the 1960s, Zenith Electronics purchased a site of the Galewood Yards from the Milwaukee Road to build its new headquarters.

Belmont Cragin is one of 77 officially designated Chicago community areas located on the Northwest Side of the City of Chicago, Illinois. It is designated Community Area 19, and is located 8 miles (13 km) NW of the Loop.

The Wrightwood Bungalow Historic District is a residential historic district encompassing the 4600 and 4700 blocks of Wrightwood Avenue in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district includes 58 houses built between 1916 and 1926, 55 of which are Chicago bungalows. As homeownership became more accessible in early twentieth century Chicago, the bungalow became popular as an affordable home design, and tens of thousands of the houses were built throughout Chicago. Like many of Chicago's bungalow-heavy neighborhoods, both the district and the Belmont Cragin neighborhood in general saw little residential development before the bungalow boom; however, the area was much more industrial than most similar neighborhoods. While several developers built bungalows in the district, the Stolzner Construction Company built over half of them, including every bungalow on the 4600 block. The company's architect, Joseph Klafter, differentiated the bungalows by changing details such as their color, entrance position, and dormer design.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 15, 2004.

Austin is one of 77 community areas in Chicago Located on the city's West Side, it is the third largest community area by population (behind the Near North Side and Lake View) and the second-largest geographically (behind South Deering). Austin's eastern boundary is the Belt Railway located just east of Cicero Avenue. Its northernmost border is the Milwaukee District / West Line. Its southernmost border is at Roosevelt Road from the Belt Railway west to Austin Boulevard. The northernmost portion, north of North Avenue, extends west to Harlem Avenue, abutting Elmwood Park. In addition to Elmwood Park, Austin also borders the suburbs of Cicero and Oak Park.

Onward Neighborhood House is a non-profit organization located in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Originally founded as a settlement house in Chicago's West Town neighborhood during the 1890s, Onward House now provides direct services to working class and immigrant families on Chicago's Northwest side. Onward's mission is to open doors, improve lives, and uplift communities through educational, economic, and support services. The organization offers a variety of programs and services, serving both children and adults.

The Falconer Bungalow Historic District is a residential historic district in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district comprises 348 Chicago bungalows built from 1915 to 1931. As homeownership became more affordable in early twentieth century Chicago, the bungalow became popular as an affordable and easily replicable home style, and tens of thousands of the homes were built throughout the city. While more industrial than average, the Belmont Cragin area was otherwise typical of the new bungalow neighborhoods, as it was an underdeveloped area on the outskirts of the city. Laughlin Falconer, for whom the district is named, owned and farmed on the land before dividing it and selling it to developers in 1913. Architects Ernest Braucher and Johan F. Knudson designed most of the bungalows in the district; both architects frequently gave their houses full-length, open-air front porches, and the district has one of the city's most significant collections of open front porch bungalows as a result.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 7, 2007.

The Pyle-National Company Plant is a historic industrial plant at 1334 North Kostner Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The Pyle-National Company, which produced lights for steam locomotives and other heavy machinery, built the plant in 1916. The company was founded in 1897 by George C. Pyle, an inventor who patented several designs for locomotive headlights, and businessman Royal C. Vilas. The company's products became the first successful electric locomotive headlights, and the success of their and their competitors' lights led Congress to require electric headlights on all locomotives in 1915. Expecting increased business from the Congressional mandate, the company expanded to the Kostner plant, which had three buildings designed by the Chicago industrial architecture firm Davidson & Weiss. The plant served as Pyle-National's only production site until 1963 and was expanded several times in the intervening decades. While Pyle-National opened a new plant in South Carolina in 1963 and pivoted away from the lighting industry, it continued to use its Chicago factory until 1992.The plant was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 19, 2021.

The Laramie State Bank Building is an Art Deco building at 5200 W. Chicago Avenue, in Chicago's Austin community. It was designed by architects Meyer & Cook and was built in 1928. The terracotta ornamentation was produced by the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company. It is a Chicago Landmark.
