Balboa station is a station on the G Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. It is named after adjacent Balboa Boulevard, which travels north–south and crosses the east–west transitway route. The station is in the Lake Balboa district of Los Angeles, in the central San Fernando Valley.

High Tech Los Angeles, or HTLA is an American charter high school located in Lake Balboa, CA, in the San Fernando Valley. It is located on the site of Birmingham High School, but it has its own separate buildings.

It was founded in 1953 as a 7-12 grade combined high school and became solely a senior high school in 1963. The school has a Van Nuys address and serves Lake Balboa, parts of Encino, and Amestoy Estates. It is within the Los Angeles Unified School District but operates as an internal charter school.

Pedlow Skate Park is a skatepark in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It was the first public skatepark in Los Angeles when it opened to the public on February 17, 2001, and was later reopened in August 2006 after extensive work and new features. It is a concrete park over 20,000 sq ft (1,900 m2) with a large pool, snake run bowl, pyramid and rails. It has hosted events such as the 2013 Southern California Summer Skateboarding Expo and OG Jam competitions

Westmark School is a private school in Encino, California, teaching 2nd through 12th grade. The school serves children with language-based learning differences including attention-deficit disorder and dyslexia among other learning disorders.The school is the first in the Los Angeles area to provide iPads to all students. School administrators and teachers consider the high costs worth it for what it adds to the education program. Westmark has a television station education program in which its 5th grade students write the material and produce the program. The school library has materials of various types to cater to the students with various learning needs.

Birmingham General Hospital was an World War II US Army Hospital in Van Nuys, California at the corner of Vanowen Street and Balboa Boulevard. The hospital was built in 1942 and 1943 to care for troops returning home from oversea service. The first patient checked-in on August 24, 1943. The hospital had 1777 beds housed in single-story buildings over the 131-acre campus.

The Japanese Garden is a 6.5-acre (2.6 ha) public Japanese garden in Los Angeles, located in the Lake Balboa district in the central San Fernando Valley, adjacent to the Van Nuys and Encino neighborhoods. It is specifically on the grounds of the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant adjacent to Woodley Park, in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area.The garden's Japanese name is Suihō-en (水芳園) meaning "garden of water and fragrance." The idea of having a Japanese Garden adjacent to a water reclamation plant was conceived by Donald C. Tillman. The garden's purpose was to demonstrate a positive use of reclaimed water, in what is usually considered a delicate environment, a Japanese garden. The ponds and irrigation use reclaimed water from the adjacent water reclamation plant.

Los Encinos State Historic Park is a state park unit of California, preserving buildings of Rancho Los Encinos. The park is located near the corner of Balboa and Ventura Boulevards in Encino, California, in the San Fernando Valley. The rancho includes the original nine-room de la Ossa Adobe, the two-story limestone Garnier building, a blacksmith shop, a natural spring, and a pond. The 4.7-acre (1.9 ha) site was established as a California state park in 1949.

On August 1, 1977, a Bell 206 news helicopter piloted by Francis Gary Powers ran out of fuel and crashed into a field near Encino, California, killing Powers and the aircraft's only passenger, cameraman George Spears.

Woodley Park is a recreation area managed by the City of Los Angeles and located along Woodley Avenue between Victory and Burbank Boulevards in the Lake Balboa neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The area is located within the large Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area in the central San Fernando Valley. The Tillman Water Reclamation Plant is adjacent to the park and surrounded by The Japanese Garden, a large Japanese garden open to the public.
