On January 31, 2011, the Crittenden Post Office 14038 was closed after 160 years of service. It was located at 3610 Crittenden Road.

The prison was formerly the site of an Erie County jail and was sold to the state to fulfill the need for a maximum security state prison. The Erie County Correctional Facility was built adjacent to Wende.

They are overseen by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo and Bishop Edward U. Kmiec. St. John the Baptist enrolls students in grades K-8, plus Pre K for children of ages 3 and 4.

Akron Falls Park is a 284-acre (1.15 km2) park in the Village of Akron and Town of Newstead, New York. A major feature of the park is a scenic 40-foot (12 m) waterfall on Murder Creek, a small stream that flows through the park. The park is operated by the Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, and is free and open year-round.

US Post Office—Akron is a historic post office building located at Akron, Erie County, New York. It was designed and built 1939–1940, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department, Louis A. Simon. It was completed in December 1940 as the result of residents requesting it from Congressman Alfred Beiter. The building is in the Colonial Revival style and is virtually identical to the post offices at Scotia, Oxford, Middleburgh, and Horseheads. The interior features a mural by Elizabeth Logan painted in 1941 and titled Horse-Drawn Railroad. When it opened on December 30, 1940, the Akron News reported that, "As you enter the stately stairway to the entrance of the new postoffice you have a certain sense of solidness and rigidity. The brass trimmed doors lend an atmosphere of a Government building." It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
